Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D
Hope everyone had a good week! I’m really struggling to get my reading done and I’m sooo behind with review books, it’s stressing me out. I’m not sure what happened last week but I was distracted by life in general and just had a hard time concentrating. Hey, it happens.
Today I’m posting a slideshow of some of hubby’s “flying creatures” photos, take a look:
Upcoming reviews:
So I really bombed with my reading this past week. I just barely finished The Once and Future Witches, but I will have that review up tomorrow. It just took longer to read than I expected. Nothing against the book, but I would say the writing is so good that I honestly just wanted to savor the reading experience. Also, it’s very slow paced, so it’s not the kind of book you race through. I tried to get my review for Jagged Edges & Moving Parts up yesterday but it just didn’t happen, so next Saturday you can catch that review for sure. And this week is also the release week for The Raven Lady, and I’m trying my damndest to finish it and get a review up soon.
Upcoming reads:
My next two reads will most likely be The Hollow Places by T. Kingfisher and Ring Shout by P. Djèlí Clark. Both are on the short side and I need to see some reading progress, so hopefully getting both read will give me a sense of accomplishment, lol.
The usual memes…
Last week was a bonanza for cover reveals, you guys! I saw quite a few, so it was pretty easy to come up with my Future Fiction post this week. However, as November and #SciFiMonth are fast approaching, I’m starting to save some new sci-fi cover reveals for the event, and it’s killing me not to share them now!! Anyway, you know the drill, check back on Wednesday to see what I found! Tuesday I’m super excited to host author Sharon Lynn Fisher on the release day of The Raven Lady. I’ll be posting an excerpt which will hopefully tempt you to check out the book! And the Friday Face-Off is “Spider web.” Everyone is welcome to join the Friday Face-Off if you are interested, it’s lots of fun. Just click on any of my Friday Face-Off posts for more details:-D
Congrats to my giveaway winner…
Last week I ran a giveaway for both The Bond and The Hive Queen, and my winner was Stephanie from Bookfever! Big congrats, I hope you enjoy these books, Stephanie!
In case you missed…
Here are my posts last week if you missed any:
Over the Woodward Wall by A. Deborah Baker – Review 4/5 stars
Top Ten Tuesday – Books with the Word “Fall” in the Title
Most Anticipated Books of 2020 – Fourth Quarter
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue – Review 5/5 stars
Your husband’s photos are AMAZING. I hope you’re not still stressing over your TBR. Reading and reviewing is supposed to be fun.

I know it’s supposed to be fun, which is the problem sometimes with book blogging. I hate letting publishers and authors down and that’s what happens when I get behind…
I’ve been having trouble reading, too. This year is just the pits really.
Yep, the pits. I wish I was one of those people who could block out stuff and just read, but I can’t always do that.
I am curious about The Hollow Places and I have it but just worried it will be middle of the road for me like the last one as it sound a lot like The Twisted Ones. Hope it’s totally different and I really like it cause I want to like it! 🙂
Have a great week and happy reading!
Stormi
I heard The Hollow Places is better than the Twisted Ones. Hope you enjoy it!
I just read The Raven Lady yesterday and was surprised how much I liked it!
I’m glad to hear that! I’m starting it today, finally!
I can’t wait to see your reviews of Harrow and Clark’s new books!
I loved the Harrow book:-)
Oh wow awesome pics! Love that first one! And I’m the same- my reading has been down so much…

Thanks Greg! Glad I’m not the only one behind:-)
These days I’ve had more weeks like you describe than I’d prefer, though they have’t affected my reading nearly as much as my photography. And speaking of photography I’m always happy to see more images from your husband, really great stuff. In this grouping I particularly like the dragonfly in flight photo because I know what it’s like trying to create that sort of photo, and the colors and lighting are really something special. I hope this next week calms down a bit for you!
I was really impressed with his dragonfly photos too. I think he bought a new lens just so he could take that kind of photo:-)
Oh I read alright but I can’t seem to write reviews either!! I just …want to read LOL. That slide show is so pretty! I hope you’ll have a great week!
Thanks Sophie! I agree, stopping to write reviews can be so inconvenient, lol.
I’m also VERY behind on my review pile, October is catch-up month!

I’m thinking I won’t get a catch up month until December:-/
I love the dragon-fly picture! If it makes you feel better I’m 18 reviews behind schedule, and that’s not counting the 5 novella mini-reviews going up tomorrow. I’m just finding lists and meme posts more fun to do atm. Though I hope to get most of the reviews posted as mini-reviews by the end of the month.
Oh wow 18? I’m not behind on reviews, but behind with reading. I sort of wish I had 18 books ready to write reviews for, lol.
Beautiful pictures! I’m reading The Once & Future Witches right now. It took some effort (and a few tries) for me to get into it, but I think that was more due to all the distractions in life right now rather than the book itself. Now that I”m farther in, I’m loving it! I hope you enjoy The Hollow Places — can’t wait to hear what you think. Have a great week!
I ended up loving the Once and Future Witches! It was slow in the beginning and I had a hard time picking it up. But I agree, I think if life weren’t so weird right now I wouldn’t be so distracted. Looking forward to your review!
Mr Buffy is a photographic genius – taking pics of dragonflies is INCREDIBLY difficult. I’ve been trying for years and they’re always a blurred mess because the little critters move so fast and continuously…
As ever, a busy and full-on week. Frankly I think we’re all finding we’ve bitten off a tad more than we can comfortably chew this year regarding our TBRs – I certainly have! I hope the coming week is a more relaxing one, Tammy.
There seem to be more new books coming out than ever before. I guess we should be grateful!
I did much better in September than October on reading. I don’t know why I am so slow now other than all the outdoor projects but that usually improves my audiobook time. Happy Reading this week!

I feel like the closer we get to the election, the more distracted I am. That must be it:-)
Same here with getting behind on my reading! I need to get my **** together! 😛 I really want to read Ring Shout too but I think I’ll wait and see what y’all think of it first hahah Happy reading! 😀

I’m glad I’m not alone!
I really love the dragonfly! And I’ve had my own troubles reading lately. And a slow, sloooow start to October. I just finished my first book in three weeks the other day. I really need to get to Once and Future Witches, but maybe I’ll wait to see your review of it first!
That dragonfly is one of my favorites too:-)
I struggled with my reading this week too. My struggles were mainly because of work deadlines and then just being too tired and/or lazy to read, lol. Another gorgeous photo from your hubby this week. I know I say it every week but he really does have a great eye when it comes to taking nature photos.
Thanks Suzanne!
Man, your hubby is really talented. Cass approves of the flying creature photos – you know he loves birds. Life is kicking my ass to be honest but I’m trying to persevere. I’ve been building bookcases and installing a mantle in my library room as well as painting this week. It’s been a good release and I love seeing it take shape. Can’t wait for some of your reviews!
Good luck with your bookcases! Sounds like a fun project:-)
Yeah, I’m a bit behind with everything atm too so I understand the stress you’re feeling. But, I’m hoping to catch up as much as possible over November and December. I think the fact that Covid seems to be making such a strong return and it feels like we’re swiftly moving to a repeat of earlier this year when everything was locked down – really isn’t helping the mindset.
Lynn 😀
I’ve also been off my reading game and have such a backlog of review books it makes it harder to even want to read. I think everything is overdue now though, which is a sort of freedom in a way lol.

Sorry you’ve been struggling with your reading, but I totally know what that’s like–you’re not alone!
Love the photos!
