Buffy’s Corner – Looking at the Week Ahead 8/9/20

Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D

Hope everyone is doing well! I don’t have much to report this week. I’m going to skip my library cataloging update, because it’s coming along but I don’t have a new photo to share. I’ll just say that we’re in the middle of shelving the Ms and status wise, we’re just over 2100 books scanned. Oh, and I made homemade pesto for the first time and it was so good!

Hubby took a solo trip up the coast last week to get away and took some awesome photos. Morro Bay is one of our favorite places to visit, but I decided to stay home with our dogs, plus I had to work. But I’m looking forward to the time we can go back together. These are a few of the many photos he took!

Upcoming reviews:

As I’m writing this post, I’m only about halfway through Ashes of the Sun. I’d love to say I’ll get a review up this week, but I’m just not sure that will happen. Maybe by next Saturday? We’ll see. It’s really good, but it’s a dense read with the chapters alternating between two characters. I normally love that format, but the chapters are long, and by the time we get back to the previous character, I’ve already forgotten what was happening with them.

On a whim I picked up Night of the Mannequins by Stephen Graham Jones, a short novella, and blew through it in a matter of hours. It was one of those WTF did I just read? books for sure. I loved it but I have no idea what just happened! LOL. This is a September release, but I’ll probably post an early review this week.

Upcoming reads:

I need to jump on Blood World for an upcoming blog tour next week, so that will be my next read after Ashes of the Sun. I’d love to get to A Chorus of Fire since the release date has already passed, but I’m hesitant to dive into another epic fantasy, so I may put this off for a little longer. Lone Jack Trail is a mystery/thriller which might be a nice change of pace, so depending on my mood, I may tackle that book next.

The usual memes…

This week, it’s just my usual two memes: Future Fiction on Wednesday and The Friday Face-Off (glasses!) on Friday. I don’t have any other plans, so I feel like it’s going to be a slow week on the blog.

In case you missed…

Here are my posts from last week:

I did make it with basil, and this is the first time I’ve heard about using parsley. Definitely going to try that some time!

  1. Yum! I love pesto, but haven’t got around to making my own… And I like the idea of parsley pesto, too – as I’m VERY fond of parsley:)). Oh my goodness! Your book cataloguing is a MAJOR task. Though I’ve a nasty feeling that the numbers of books we’ve stacked in our loft probably also runs into thousands… Your husband’s bird pics are fabulous – he is a talented photographer! Thank you for sharing and I hope the coming week is a good one!

I have never had parsley pesto, but it sounds good:-) Thank you Sarah, I hope you have a good week as well:-)

  2. Your husband found an osprey, I just love osprey! And I don’t see pelicans out this way, so that’s cool, too. I love the black & white beach landscape, really beautiful image. I’ve yet to read anything by Django Wexler so I’m looking forward to your thoughts on Ashes of the Sun. And I’m liking the covers of Brian D. Anderson’s books. Hope you have a great week, Tammy!

  3. I’m also partway through Ashes of the Sun, and I agree, it’s really dense. I’ve been bouncing around picking up lighter reads, but I do plan on getting back to it once I’m back in the mood for epic fantasy!

Yeah, I took a short break and I’m reading a fast paced thriller, but I’ll probably switch back and forth, I want to finish it already!!

Ha ha, well M is only halfway through the alphabet, lol. But think of the letters where there’s either no books or very few: X, Y, Z and Q!

  4. Your husband always takes such beautiful photos! I have a copy of Ashes of the Sun that I keep forgetting I have for some reason? I really need to get to it. I’ve been really wanting to read more Stephen Graham Jones, I’ll have to keep an eye out for that one!

  5. I’ve heard of Morro Bay, sounds beautiful there from what I’ve seen. I imagine a great place for photography! And yay for pesto haha! Hope you have a great week. 🙂

  6. Sounds like a good week. I love pesto and I’ve been experimenting using almonds and walnut – mainly because I have quite a lot of homegrown basil and it has to be trimmed quite regularly to stop it becoming leggy so I use the leaves for pesto (even if I don’t have pine nuts in at the time).
I’m late with some of my august reads – such as Chorus of Fire but hopefully I’ll pick it up soon.
