Future Fiction #77: Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

Three exciting new books, take a look!

Karen Osborne continues her science fiction action and adventure series the Memory War with Engines of Oblivion, the sequel to Architects of Memory—the corporations running the galaxy are about to learn not everyone can be bought.

Natalie Chan gained her corporate citizenship, but barely survived the battle for Tribulation.

Now corporate has big plans for Natalie. Horrible plans.

Locked away in Natalie’s missing memory is salvation for the last of an alien civilization and the humans they tried to exterminate. The corporation wants total control of both—or their deletion.

Engines of Oblivion (The Memory War #2) by Karen Osborne. Releases in February 2021 from Tor Books. I have the first book, Architects of Memory, in my reading pile for August, and I was surprised to see the cover reveal for book two before the release of the first book! But check it out, I love these covers, and I’m excited to start this series.

A tale of two sisters against a backdrop of Night Film meets Black Mirror, this atmospheric novel will keep you guessing until the very end.

After their world-famous mother disappeared under mysterious circumstances, Manon and Thais left their remote Mediterranean home—sent away by their pharma tech tycoon father. Opposites in every way, the sisters drifted apart in their grief. Yet their mother’s unfinished story still haunts them both, and they can’t put to rest the possibility that she is still alive.

Lured home a decade later, Manon and Thais discover their mother’s legendary last work, long thought lost: White Fox, a screenplay filled with enigmatic metaphors. The clues in this dark fairytale draw them deep into society’s surreal underbelly, into the twisted secrets hidden by their glittering family, to reveal the truth about their mother—and themselves.

White Fox by Sara Faring. Releases in September 2020 from Imprint. I just love the sound of this! I missed Faring’s last book, The Tenth Girl, but I’m determined to read this one.

The next pulls-no-punches thriller from New York Times bestselling and Edgar Award-winning author Courtney Summers, about an aspiring young journalist determined to save her sister from a cult.

“The Unity Project saved my life.”

Lo Denham is used to being on her own. After her parents died, Lo’s sister, Bea, joined The Unity Project, leaving Lo in the care of their great aunt. Thanks to its extensive charitable work and community outreach, The Unity Project has won the hearts and minds of most in the Upstate New York region, but Lo knows there’s more to the group than meets the eye. She’s spent the last six years of her life trying–and failing–to prove it.

“The Unity Project murdered my son.”

When a man shows up at the magazine Lo works for claiming The Unity Project killed his son, Lo sees the perfect opportunity to expose the group and reunite with Bea once and for all. When her investigation puts her in the direct path of its charismatic and mysterious leader, Lev Warren, he proposes a deal: if she can prove the worst of her suspicions about The Unity Project, she may expose them. If she can’t, she must finally leave them alone.

But as Lo delves deeper into The Project, the lives of its members, and spends more time with Lev, it upends everything she thought she knew about her sister, herself, cults, and the world around her–to the point she can no longer tell what’s real or true. Lo never thought she could afford to believe in Lev Warren . . . but now she doesn’t know if she can afford not to.

Welcome to The Unity Project.

The Project by Courtney Summers. Releases in February 2021 from Wednesday Books. Look at this cover! I’m seriously in love. And the story sounds good, I mean, I can’t resist stories about cults:-) I have not yet read Sadie, but I know everyone loves it.

  1. Oh, look the sequel to Architects of Memory! I have White Fox on my wishlist, too! I already have my preorder in. I’m excited to see a new Courtney Summers. I haven’t read Sadie yet either, but I totally should.

  2. Will

I LOVE the cover on that last one! In fact, all of the covers are amazing. As usual! Do you judge books by their covers, Tammy? I know the old adage says not to, but I can’t help myself sometimes

    • Tammy

Ha ha I TOTALLY judge books by their cover! I know that wrong. But of course that’s what attracts lots of readers in the first place, is the cover:-)

  3. So I’m adding White Fox and The Project. I had heard of the Summers book before but had never seen the cover. Cults have always fascinated me – just not to the point of joining one 🙂

  4. I’ve not yet read any of these authors. Karen Osborne’s books look like ones I’d enjoy. All the covers this time around are all fascinating in different ways, especially The Project, getting a peek into the strange things going on inside her head.

I’m looking forward to starting Karen Osborne’s series, I should be reading the first one in August.

It’s my favorite cover too:-) I’ve been in a thriller mood as well, luckily there seems to be a lot to choose from!

  5. I added White Fox and The Project earlier this week too after seeing them in a newsletter. I can’t believe Engines of Oblivion has all this about it already and the first one isn’t out yet!

  6. Courtney Summers! Sign me up. I loved the zombie books she wrote. White Fox has an amazing cover, and those Osborne books sound good to me too. I want all of these!!!

  7. I honestly like the sound of all of them (and the covers!), but I admit I’m particularly intrigued by White Fox. Yep, gotta note it down 😀

I am waiting on pins and needles for Courtney Summers’ new one. Sadie remains one of the most powerful and heartbreaking things I’ve ever read. You need to listed to the podcast that goes with it and read the book at the same time.

  9. I love the sound of The Memory War series! Though it being Tor, I’m guessing Kindle publications are going to be way down on their list… And these days, I’m not buying any more fiction reads in print. Once again, a marvellous haul, Tammy – thank you for sharing!

Me too, I’ve requested it on both Edelweiss and NetGalley. Edelweiss already declined me, urgh.

  10. The Project sounds interesting! There’s just something about novels involving cults that I cannot resist. White Fox is on my radar too. I hope you enjoy all three of these when you read them!

  11. Ooh good choices. I can’t wait to read two of these. I haven’t read The Tenth Girl yet either but I seriously want to at some point. Or Sadie although I have read and loved some of the authors other books so I’m sure I’ll love her upcoming one too. It sounds amazing.
