This week’s theme: “Love belongs to desire, and desire is always cruel.” – A graphic novel cover.
I don’t read many graphic novels. For some reason, I just don’t enjoy that medium very much. But I have read a handful of them, and one that I really enjoyed was Monstress by Marjorie Liu. I found six different covers for Volume 1, take a look:
Image Comics edition | Portuguese edition
Indigo Exclusive edition | Forbidden Planets/Big Bang Comics Exclusive edition
Newbury Comics Exclusive Variant | Kinokuniya Exclusive edition
All of these are similar in color and tone, and of course they all feature the interior artwork. I think for my favorite I’m going to have to stick with the cover I own, which is the Image Comics edition:
I have read the first three volumes in this series and I loved each and every one. I cannot wait to get to volume 4! I own the same cover to the first as you do and I agree, I think that’s the one I like most of all.

I’m in love with all of these as well because I love Sana Takeda’s art, but I agree, I’m also partial to the one I own (the Italian edition has the same cover as the Image Comics one). I have a complicated relationship with graphic novels but this series is for sure my favorite.
I’m torn between your choice and the cover next to it, the one with the rearing horse: it might be because they both suggest motion – the horse in one and the flowing hair in the other… 🙂

The Indigo Exclusive edition with all the eyeballs is freaking me out (in a good way). I’ll have to go with that one.

I have to go with your cover – it was the one that jumped out at me, with the fantastic detail of the embroidered jacket and that haughty, yet slightly vulnerable look… The artwork on all these covers is absolutely beautiful, by the way – a wonderful choice for this week, Tammy!
I haven’t read this graphic book but it sounds freaking awesome! Also think I like the first cover the most. ♥

Each one of these is stunning. I’m going with the Big Bang Comics cover. It fits the title for me.

This one is new to me, I’ll have to look it up. I like these cover designs, really fascinating. My favorite is either the Newbury edition, kinda creepy, or the Forbidden Planets edition, don’t know if that head and mane are a mask or real.
Honestly graphic novels are something I’ve yet to venture into. These covers though! I love them all. I may need to check this book out.
I love that cover, too.
I still really need to read Monstress! All of these covers are gorgeous. I think I like the Image Comics one you chose and the Forbidden Planet one the most.

I love your cover and also the Portuguese one next to it.
Lynn 😀
The illustrations for Monstress are gorgeous and I love the art deco influences in them.
These covers are beautiful! I have the comics but I still haven’t read them, sometimes I think I’m just buying them to collect the artwork, lol.
They are all very similiar like you said and I like the one you picked the best as well.
Wow, these are all gorgeous. It’s hard to pick a favorite but I think I’m going with the one you picked. I love all of the details.
I just read the first one recently and loved it! I can’t wait to continue them!
I got Monstress for Christmas, but I haven’t read it yet. I want some of these other covers, though. They’re all pretty stunning. I LOVE the Forbidden Planets one, but I don’t know how confusing that would be given that that’s not the main character. Since I haven’t read it, I don’t even know where that comes into play. xD
I love all of these covers but I think I like the Forbidden Planets one best!
