Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D
Happy May, everyone, in case you forgot what month we’re in, lol. I can’t believe Mother’s Day is a week from today, it’s definitely going to be a little different from our normal celebration. My family usually takes me out for dinner, but I guess we’ll celebrate with a nice meal in this time.
My husband has been luring crows into our yard so he can photograph them, and I thought I’d share one of his photos. We both love animals but I especially love crows after reading Hollow Kingdom. I’m hoping for a lost baby crow to appear in our yard someday so we can raise it by hand! Ha ha.
Upcoming Reviews:
Tomorrow, look for my review of Fractured Tide by Leslie Lutz. You guys, I loved this book! It was suspenseful and creepy and had a pretty good mystery at the heart of the story.
On Thursday, I hope to get my review of Goldilocks by Laura Lam up. By the time you read this, I’ll probably be almost finished, and so far I’m loving it! It’s a great mix of interesting science, the politics of space travel, the effect of climate change on the future, and some kick-ass female characters.
The usual memes…
Wednesday I’ll have three new books to share on Future Fiction, Friday’s Face-Off is a graphic novel cover, and I’m hoping to have some kind of Top Ten list or book tag on Tuesday for part of Wyrd & Wonder.
Upcoming Reads:
I’m still trying to finish The Girl and the Stars. As I mentioned yesterday in my Over-Booked post, I keep putting it aside to read other books, because it’s just not grabbing my attention. Sigh.
For my first Wyrd & Wonder read, I’m going to start The Bone Ships, since it was not only the winner of my poll, but the book most mentioned in the comments. Can’t wait!
And as far as review books go, I’ll definitely be starting Unreconciled next. Not sure if I’ll be starting it this week, but I’m putting it up here as a reminder to myself:-D
Watching:
A sad day is upon us… by the time this post goes up, I will have finished Season 3 of Riverdale🙁 And Season 4 is not yet up on Netflix, so I’m not sure when I’ll be able to watch it. I need a new show to watch! I’m thinking about The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, which seems like it might be a good choice for Riverdale fans. Let me know if you’re watching it!
Also, I have to mention how I love the way the writers incorporate musical numbers into this series. This is one of the numbers from the Heathers episode:-D
In case you missed…
My posts from last week:
The Unsuitable by Molly Pohlig – Review
Wyrd & Wonder: A Fantastical Month of Fantasy
Over-Booked [120] – A Book Haul Post
I’m glad you’re going to read The Bone Ships! I cannot wait to hear your thoughts about this one! 🙂

I’ll be starting it this week, I hope!
Ooh Fractured Tides looks so good! I’m glad to hear it was good- can’t WAIt to read it. And yes Mother’s Day is gonna be so weird this year. Hard to believe we’re in May already…
Riverdale kills it with the music for sure!
I’ve seriously been watching YouTube videos of Riverdale songs all weekend, WHAT’S WRONG WITH ME??
I’m watching Mindhunter. It’s interesting, and sad, too, knowing serial killers really exist. Sabrina is really good. I think you’d like it!

Great, I’m definitely going to watch Sabrina:-)
When my mom was 10 years old, my Papa raised a young crow for a year. There are lots of details I won’t get into here (long story), but they clipped its wings a couple of times and made it a “home” it sleep in, in this little shed in their yard. They taught it to say things (it said them), and it loved to tease one of their cats. My mom said it was probably the coolest pet they had. A little over a year after they got him, they stopped clipping his wings and he flew off to be with other crows. He came back to their house a few times over 2 or 3 months, then they never saw him again. I have a photo of my Papa with the crow on his shoulder. Wish I could have been around to see it all!
Oh what a sweet story. Crows are so smart and I think it would break my heart to raise one and then see him fly off:-(
I’ve started in on Sabrina and while it’s different I’m liking it so far. Gotta get back to it. 🙂
Good to know, I’m sure going to miss the Riverdale characters, though…
I hadn’t heard of fractured tide but yer brief mention had me scrambling to put it on me list. Of course now I have to get a copy and then find time to read it.
x The Captain
My review is up tomorrow, it was definitely a “Captain” story!
I just requested it from NetGalley. We shall see.

I love the crow! 🙂 And are those orange trees in your yard? If so, how do they taste? I don’t recall ever having fruit trees in any of our yards, but I loved visiting friends who did. Freshly picked oranges and apples. Mmmm…
Yes, those are oranges! In California, if you don’t have at least one fruit tree in your yard, there’s something wrong, lol. They are actually pretty good! But to be honest, I usually forget we have them so we don’t eat them that often. I leave them to the squirrels, lol.
I think I saw Riverdale Season 4 starts on Netflix within the next 2 weeks and yes, you need to watch Sabrina! Can’t wait to hear what you think of Goldilocks when you finish and I love that crow pic!
Oh cool, you made my dayyyy!!
I’m working on the new Mercy Thompson book this week, then it’s probably time for Kings of the Wyld! I’ve never watched more than an episode or two of Riverdale, but I enjoyed the first two seasons of Sabringa…season 3 went off the rails for me though.

I did hear there might be a Sabrina/Riverdale crossover so I need to get up to speed before that happens.
I’ve got Goldilocks on my library reserve. I still think you should read the Red Sister trilogy before the Girl and the Stars.
Have a great week!
Yeah, I think I probably should read the first trilogy, but I’m going to power through The Girl and Stars at some point first.
Awesome crow pic! You have some interesting books coming up on your blog so can’t wait to see what you think. Sabrina is okay but a little out there but then so is Riverdale but if I choose I would pick Riverdale over Sabrina, so curious to see your thoughts on it if you try it. 🙂
I’m going to try Sabrina and see. Yeah, Riverdale is sort of ridiculous at times but I don’t care!
Love your crow pic – especially as I’m currently listening to the Audio of Hollow Kingdom and really enjoying it.
Lynn 😀
Oh good, I hope you write a review!
I’ve started both Riverdale and Sabrina, love both, but am terribly behind on both, lol. Your crow pick and comments has me all the more excited about starting Hollow Kingdom!
I don’t know where you are in Riverdale but I just finished season 3 and it ended with a BOMBSHELL. I am still trying to process!
I’ve been hearing a lot of great things about Goldilocks, looking forward to taking a break from W&W to fit it in maybe next week!
I just finished Goldilocks and I thought the second half was inferior to the first half, unfortunately. There’s a lot of good things in this book but also some problems, so it ended up being a mixed bag for me. But worth reading!
Oh hello, epic cover of Unreconciled!
Yes, epic!
The pics is beautiful!
Thanks, my husband is pretty talented:-)
His crow photo is amazing!! I’m cracking up at the thought of you having your own S.T. in the house.
Ha ha yes I totally want my own ST!!
Oh gosh, I completely forgot about Mother’s Day! I’m a little disappointed that the book box I ordered as a Mother’s Day gift from my daughter hasn’t come in yet, although I guess that’s to be expected, given everything. I can’t wait to see what you think of Bone Ships!!! I’m really looking forward to picking it up, too.
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was … different. As long as you go in expecting nothing remotely similar to Sabrina the Teenage Witch (except characters with the same names), it’s fine. I lost interest in it and never finished, but my husband and brother-in-law both loved it. It’s definitely dark, and they liked that about it.
I love your yard, Tammy! Those trees! So gorgeous.
We were supposed to take both our mothers out together this year, it’s been a while since we’ve done that and they had asked a while back, but looks like it’s on the backburner for now. In the meantime I sent my mom some flowers and chocolates in the mail. I hope you get a nice surprise even if you can’t go out right now. <3
