The Friday Face-Off: Armor

The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!

This week’s theme: “Pretty armor doesn’t make a warrior.” – A cover with armor.

This was a little tough for me, but I finally remembered The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley, and it turns out there are a few covers with armor! Take a look:

U.S. Ballantine Books 1984 | Italian edition 20118 | Portuguese edition 2012

Portuguese edition 2007 | Spanish edition 2017 | Portuguese edition year?

Polish edition 2010 | Polish edition 2018 | Czech edition 2001

Dutch edition 2016 | Polish edition 1994 | Russian edition  2018

Lots of Portuguese and Polish covers to choose from! The cover I like best doesn’t have armor on it, but I can’t tear my eyes away from the Dutch edition:

Which one do you like best?

  1. I also struggled a little with this one and yet the book you’ve chosen is exactly what I had in mind and now it’s reminded me of the book that I had in mind but couldn’t remember! The once and future king!
    I love your choice too.
    Lynn 😀

  2. Laurie Harris

Love all of these but I’m with you- the Dutch cover is fabulous! This is one of my favorite books of all time btw

  3. I read this one a long while back and loved it. I’d have to pick the US Ballantine version as my favorite, perhaps out of familiarity. But I also like the style of Spanish edition.

  4. What an interesting selection, Tammy – and your favourite is the best. Such a pretty cover… I hope you are enjoying the weekend as best as you are able:). Take care.

  5. Good choice on the prompt! These covers are all so different, but there’s so many gorgeous ones! I’m torn between the two Polish editions, because the main character looks so fierce on the one, but I love the scenery and setting of the other one, whcih is gorgeous! Let’s just say Poland wins this one for me, either way. 😉
