Future Fiction #67: Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

This week, a horror story, a sci-fi thriller, and a suspense/thriller from a popular writer:

When people go missing in the sleepy town of Smith’s Hollow, the only clue to their fate comes when a teenager starts having terrifying visions, in a chilling horror novel from national bestselling author Christina Henry.

When the bodies of two girls are found torn apart in the town of Smiths Hollow, Lauren is surprised, but she also expects that the police won’t find the killer. After all, the year before her father’s body was found with his heart missing, and since then everyone has moved on. Even her best friend, Miranda, has become more interested in boys than in spending time at the old ghost tree, the way they used to when they were kids.

So when Lauren has a vision of a monster dragging the remains of the girls through the woods, she knows she can’t just do nothing. Not like the rest of her town. But as she draws closer to answers, she realizes that the foundation of her seemingly normal town might be rotten at the center. And that if nobody else stands for the missing, she will.

The Ghost Tree by Christina Henry. Releases in October 2020 from Berkley Books. I just happened to see the author’s cover reveal on Facebook, and of course I had to feature this today. I’m always excited for ANY new Christina Henry book, and this sounds like it’s got her trademark dark vibe to it. Can’t wait!

Stranger Things meets World War Z in this heart-racing conspiracy thriller as a lonely young woman teams up with a group of fellow outcasts to survive the night in a town overcome by a science experiment gone wrong.

Turner Falls is a small tourist town nestled in the hills of western Oregon, the kind of town you escape to for a vacation. When an inexplicable outbreak rapidly develops, this idyllic town becomes the epicenter of an epidemic of violence as the teenaged children of several executives from the local biotech firm become ill and aggressively murderous. Suddenly the town is on edge, and Lucy and her friends must do everything it takes just to fight through the night.

The Loop by Jeremy Robert Johnson. Releases in September from Gallery/Saga Press. I know, I know. Another book that’s comparing itself to Stranger Things. BUT this one sounds really good, and David from Fanfiaddict review it and really enjoyed it!

In this suspenseful and twisted thriller, an ex-con uses her unique skill set to fight for the justice of those who can’t defend themselves. Kate Kessler’s novels are “impossible to put down” (Hollie Overton).

Killian Delaney has a skewed moral compass, a high threshold for pain, an unstoppable will, and she’s just joined the Network: a group of well-funded individuals who help the weakest among us.

Two sisters have gone missing, and Killian has been hired to track them down.

The plan is straightforward: follow the trail, find the girls, and kill whoever stands in her way.

They’re living in a commune in upstate New York, one that looks a lot like a cult. And while one sister wants out, the other adamantly refuses.

Breaking them free will push every skill in Killian’s arsenal to its limit. But she’s determined to get them home.

Call of Vultures by Kate Kessler. Releases in December 2020 from Redhook. I’ve never read this author before, but I guess she’s written a lot of thriller/suspense books. This appears to be part of a series but I believe they are all stand-alones. I need to read more thrillers so I’m totally on board with this one!

I’m curious because it seems to be a series, hopefully this one is good and then I’ll check out the rest:-)

You’re right, this one seems to be veering away from her norm. Now I’m even more excited:-)

  1. I was so excited when I saw that cover reveal for The Ghost Tree! She’s been talking about it for what seems like ages on Twitter and I’m just so thrilled it’s all coming together. The Loop sounds really interesting, too!

  2. Though none of these are jumping out at me, each does sound like it could be an entertaining read. And I like the mix of genres. I’ve recently been looking through my stacks of books to determine which to read next, and I’ve been purposely trying to mix up the genres so I don’t stick too much to any one thing (even though I’ll likely always read more sci-fi/fantasy than anything else).

I’m so excited about Henry’s new book! I love how prolific she seems to be lately:-)

All of these sound fun, but I think The Loop is probably the one I am most excited about it. Stranger Things meets World War Z sounds like perfection.

  4. I am curious about the new Christina Henry book too! I have only read two of her books, one I loved and one was just okay, but I like the sound of this one. Those other two sound cool too!!

  5. As per usual, this is my first time hearing about all of these. xD I’m very curious about The Ghost Tree, though. It sounds dark and spooky, and it releases at a really good time for that (ha, like there’s ever a bad time for that, really).

  6. I’ve been dying to see the cover of the Christine Henry book. I’ll grab anything she writes. I think she is doing something with Sleepy Hollow soon. Here’s hoping. Also, you just killed me with the other two as well. You’re killing me wishlist!

  7. I really liked The Girl In Red by Henry and would like to read more by her. The Ghost Tree sounds like it will be good too. The Loop had me at “Stranger Things meets World War Z.” And Call of Vultures also really appeals to me. Three winners! I hope you enjoy all of them when you read them. Stay well and safe.
