The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!
This week’s theme: “One ring to rule them all.” – A cover with a ring.
I’m taking the “book title” route this week, although there are rings on some of these covers as well. And Lynn says it’s OK if we haven’t read the books we pick, so this week I’m going with Ring by Koji Suzuki, which was the source material for the movie The Ring (which I have seen!) There are some cool covers, take a look:
U.S. Vertical edition 2004 | French edition 2014 | Harper Kindle edition 2009
German edition 2003 | Vietnamese edition 2007 | Czech edition 2004
Spanish edition 2017 | French edition 2003 | Vietnamese 2012
German edition 2005 | Japanese edition 2000 | Japanese Kindle edition 2000
This is tough, I like quite a few of these covers, but two in particular jump out at me:
Haha – we’ve chosen the same book this week – I actually read this quite a while ago (I did write a blog post but I didn’t link it – it’s probably really embarassing!) I like the vietnamese cover – it gives me the chills.
Lynn 😀
Oh I love the Czech edition! It’s dizzying in a good way that goes with the story.

The Ring was my favourite movie growing up for awhile. Weird eh? haha. I also like the US Vertical edition.
Any cover with that long-haired, weird girl on it gives me the creeps! Which is a good sign, in a twisted way… 😀

I like the US vertical edition as well. I think some of the others are pretty cool but they remind me more of the movie posters. I want something different for the book 🙂
I like the German and Vietnamese editions 🙂

This is really cool, Tammy, and I remember that creepy movie! I like the vertical cover too. My eyes go right to it!
I like the 2007 Vietnamese cover. Brings back memories of that freaky hair/movement in the first movie. I really enjoyed that series, though I had no idea it was based on a book. Should have known. 🙂
You and Lynn are on the same wavelength this week! I hadn’t even realized this was a book. I watched the movie when it came out, I think I was in high school and I was so freaked out!
I like that first one! And The German ’03 edition is freaky too. 🙂

I think you and Lynn had the same thoughts on this one – good choice! I really like the US 2004 edition. It’s a nice play on the theme and really eye-catching. Needless to say I haven’t read the book and would run a mile before watching the film – wuss that I am!
I feel kind of silly, but I don’t think I knew The Ring was based off a book? I think I vaguely remember hearing something about it, but I was still surprised to read that again. xD You can definitely see the influence of the movie in some of the book covers, which is interesting. I think my favorite is the Spanish edition, because that image creeps me out every time!

I really do keep forgetting that this is also a book and everytime I’m reminded I’m surprised again LOL. Great pick!
Definitely like the Vietnamese cover. Super creepy!

I actually didn’t know the original movie was based on a book. I’m curious now! 😀 Thanks for sharing!
