What’s On My Plate – February 2020

January seemed to go by in a flash, and here we are already in February. And I have a LOT of potential reads this month, although I will not be able to get to all of these.

This month my Book Review Giveaway is back, and you’ll be able to choose from both the December and January books I reviewed, so check back here on February 15. And I’ll probably have two winners this month:-D Otherwise, let’s get right to the books I hope to read this month (in no particular order):

The Unspoken Name by A.K. Larkwood. I’m so excited to finally read this, I feel like I’ve had an ARC for months. There are already lots of rave reviews for this book!

The Wolf of Oren-Yaro by K.S. Villoso. And here’s another ARC that’s been waiting patiently for me to get to it.

Moontangled by Stephanie Burgis. I’ve already read this short novella, and it was a delight! I’m always excited to read something by Stephanie Burgis because she injects so much sparkling magic into her stories. My review will be up next week:-D

Upright Women Wanted by Sarah Gailey. I’ve already read this as well and I LOVED it. It just struck all the right chords with me, for some reason. Queer wild west librarians, gun fights, horses, goose bump-inducing romance and lots more. Gailey’s writing is stunning, I know I’m going to include quotes in my review and it’s going to be hard to choose!

Master of Sorrows by Justin T. Call. I’ve heard rave reviews about this book (do you sense a pattern here?) and I’m very much looking forward to seeing if I agree with them.

Mazes of Power by Juliette Wade. This is my current read and wow, I wasn’t sure about this when I picked it up, but it’s sucked me in! A unique futuristic setting with shades of East Indian culture that revolves around caste systems and complex political structures. Hopefully it will continue to be good!

Bent Heavens by Daniel Kraus. This sounds like a fantastic horror/sci-fi mash-up, and I can’t wait to get to it! Lots of good reviews are up already on Goodreads.

A Witch in Time by Constance Sayers. I’ve had really good luck with Redhook books, and I’m always up for a story with witches.

Voodoo Shanghai by Kristi Charish. I have to admit I’m behind on this series, so I’m also trying to read the second book in the series, Lipstick Voodoo, as well. We shall see how that goes!

The Shadow Saint by Gareth Hanrahan. I just recently received my review copy of this book, so I haven’t had time to dig in, even though this was a January release. I’ve been reading some good reviews, though, so I’m looking forward to it!

Foul is Fair by Hannah Capin. This was one of those spur of the moment NetGalley requests a few months ago, but now I’m realizing this isn’t a top priority for me this month. So we’ll just have to see how my reading time goes. Unfortunately, it may fall by the wayside.

The Boatman’s Daughter by Andy Davidson. This book, on the other hand, is going to be a priority since I’m determined to read something by Davidson!

Untamed Shore by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. Likewise, I’m super excited to start Moreno-Garcia’s coming-of-age mystery set in Baja California.

Black Leviathan by Bernd Perplies. This came unsolicited from Tor Books, but I’m hoping to squeeze it in this month. It’s not being released until the end of February so I’ll concentrate on some of my other books first.

And that is it for February! I may sneak in a March book or two near the end of the month, since I do have some highly anticipated March review books (especially The Deep by Alma Katsu!), but otherwise I’m going to concentrate hard on this pile. Let me know if we have any books in common this month:-D

Master of Shadows and The Shadow Saint are both on my wish list right now. All of these look fantastic though.

I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Oren Yaro. Lots of good epic fantasy to choose from this month:-)

  2. I think I’m giving up on formal TBRs this year. I still have certain books that I plan in reading and others I have obligations for but I found listing them doesn’t really motivate me – sometimes just the opposite. So I think I’ll just do a wrap up each month. Of course that’s all subject to change. For some reason, Oren-Yaro has been calling to me and honestly, I don’t read a lot of high fantasy so I don’t know why. Maybe it’s the word “bitch” in the series title – let’s be honest šŸ™‚

I think it’s great if you don’t need a TBR. It would definitely give you more freedom. If I didn’t have so many review books, I would consider doing away with it too!

  3. Seriously, how the heck is it February already! It feels like we just celebrated New Years. And how on earth did all these releases just seem to sneak up on us out of nowhere šŸ˜› I thought I was somewhat on top of things, but looking at this list and seeing a lot of my own TBR reflected in it, I’m getting stressed (but in the good, excited way!)

And I think I even forgot some February releases that I have review copies of! It’s just crazy!! Yep, stress but the good kind:-)

  4. Your plate looks full to me! I don’t have any of the books listed, but there’s a lot in the collection I’d like to try. The Unspoken Name. The Wolf of Oren-Yaro. Black Leviation. Mazes of Power. The Shadow Saint (but only after I get to The Gutter Prayer). Should I keep listing them? šŸ™‚

  5. As ever your TBR monthly post has me turning an unbecoming shade of green… I am also determined to get hold of the Moreno Garcia book at some stage. I hope you have a lovely time reading these beauties, Tammy:))

  6. You have got your work cut out for you in February- but it looks like youā€™re already off to a great start. Looking forward to a few of these reviews (The Unspoken Name And Untamed Shores for starters!)

  7. Will

This looks like quite the list! Mine isn’t quite this full, but the one for March is pretty cluttered so I’m gonna try to start on it this month. What do you think the odds are that you’ll get through all these in February?
