The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!
This week’s theme: “Ack, Ack, Ack, we come in peace.”
I’m so happy that Rosewater has some awesome covers to share, because this is the first book that came to mind this week. Rosewater by Tade Thompson is the first book in a trilogy that takes place in a futuristic Nigeria and involves a strange, alien dome that has popped up in the city of Rosewater. Here are some of the covers I found:
Apex Book Company edition 2016 | Orbit Books edition 2018
Spanish edition 2019 | Russian edition 2019
French edition 2019 | Turkish edition 2019
This is a tough one. I have a soft spot for the Apex cover, simply because that’s the one I read, back in 2016. But it’s not my favorite cover. I think I’m giving the prize this week to the Spanish edition, simply because I love the large scope of the city and the dome looming over it.
The cover you chose immediately stood out to me, I’ve realised I am drawn to dark covers. I’m also really fascinated by the Russian version.
Lynn 😀
I love the Russian cover too, I wish I could remember if it relates to the story, lol.
I think I like the Orbit edition because it’s a cool text layout for the title.
I do think the title is really well done:-)
I honestly don’t know that I’m in love with any of them but if I had to pick on, it would be the Orbit one.
It’s definitely the most eye catching:-D
I really like the Orbit Books edition 2018. I love the colors on it! ♥

I love those colors too, it’s a pretty cool design!
The Spanish and the Apex Books edition look like the best of the presentation, and I can’t really decide between the two of them…
I am very fond of the Apex edition!
I think I like the Spanish or Russian one.
I like the Russian one too:-D
I’m finding it hard to make up my mind – it’s a tie between the Orbit and French covers, I think. I did try this one, but rapidly DNF’d it, sadly.
This was a little hard to get into, but it ended up working really well for me.
My favorite is the Spanish 2019 edition too! I still need to read this. I started it at one point and then had to put it down for other commitments but it seemed cool.
I still need to read the last book in the trilogy. Story of my life!
Wow, I was only aware of those first two covers, I’m glad this book’s popularity has exploded 😀 I think my favorite is the Russian edition, because it so perfectly captures the creepiness of the winged woman.
I was surprised to see this many covers too:-)
These covers are all so different from one another. I guess I expected something similar given it’s the same story. It’s interesting how different desginers see the book isn’t it? I think the french one is my favourite
Different countries see the book differently, I think. Or I should say different designers from different countries! It always amazes me too.
I like the Turkish edition for some reason. It somehow has those vintage covers that scream “I’m a must-read classic!” ahhaha

Ha ha, I think you are right:-)
I think you chose the best one, Tammy. The Orbit one is the only one I’ve seen and it’s pretty drab compared to all the others.
That’s what I thought too, but lots of people seem to love it, lol.
Your pick is my favorite too. It reminds me a bit of Stephen King’s Under the Dome.
I agree, and the Spanish cover certainly seems to fit the description of the story. But that Russian cover is also fascinating.
That Russian edition is really nice but I think the spanish edition gives a better idea of what the book is about.
Oooh, something about that Apex edition it feels so pulpy, I love it.
Great choice for this one! I like all the covers! I agree with your favorite though I also like the Russian edition 2019
