THE ART OF A CHANGED WORLD – Featuring Cover Art by Alex Storer

A bit of an unusual post for you today! If you love book cover art as much as I do, then keep reading…

I recently connected with artist Alex Storer over a book cover he designed, which led to this post! It turns out that Alex has created a free PDF of his artistic collaborations with author Alice Sabo over the years, and I thought this was such a cool idea that I wanted to help Alex promote it. First, here is the cover of Alice’s new book, designed by Alex:

Tensions rise as Elaan begins a delicate dance between the UCFS’s demands and her people’s needs. An unexpected gift of knowledge leaves her reeling.

Hunter has to deal with the new revelations about his origins, the trial and the resulting repercussions, all the while working to keep his family safe.

Trash gets a chance to rescue a brother in need and add him to the Embassy’s staff.

More Iguacans flood into the Embassy seeking sanctuary. More unusual gifts are discovered. And with every secret learned, Elaan uncovers facts she’d rather stay buried.

Dilemma is only the most recent cover Alex has done for Alice’s books, and in this free downloadable PDF, Alex has brought together all of his stunning artwork. If you are an artist, or even if you just love art, I suggest checking this out. Alex has included so many cool elements in this book, including his artistic process, inspiration for various covers, and how he and Alice met and formed a working relationship. And as I was perusing Alex’s artwork, a familiar book cover caught my eye. Alice Sabo’s High Barrens was part of the 2019 Self Published Fantasy Blog Off (SPFBO)!

Cover artist Alex Storer has been working with self-publishing author Alice Sabo, since 2014.

The Art of a Changed World is a detailed retrospective of the cover art Alex has produced for thirteen of Alice’s books, including her bestselling series A Changed World, from which the free publication takes its name.

The Art of a Changed World brings together concept art, final cover illustrations and designs for Alice’s books – spanning science fiction, fantasy and thriller genres. It contains the stories behind each cover, as well as insights into the creative process alongside contributions from Alice. It is a celebration of creative collaboration in the age of self-publishing.

I absolutely adore Alex’s style, and I’ve already downloaded my own PDF to enjoy his fantastic book covers. Please take a look yourself and you’ll understand why I’m such a fan:-D

About the authors:

ALEX STORER is an illustrator and graphic designer based in the UK.

A lifelong interest in science fiction came full circle in 2010, when Alex finally began realising his own visions of future times and places. Taking inspiration from classic SF literature and the SF&F art greats of the 1970s and 80s, his work pays homage to yesterday’s visions of tomorrow, yet remains contemporary and distinctive in style.

Alex first encountered computer art during a school art class in 1990 – a moment that would ultimately define his career as a graphic designer and digital artist. Today he enjoys creative collaborations with independent authors and publishers, and regularly exhibits his artwork on the UK science fiction convention scene.

Alex’s H.G. Wells-inspired painting Awakening was included in Brave New Worlds: Utopias/Dystopias in London in 2011, and his work has previously appeared in ImagineFX Magazine, Computer Arts, Writing and Illustrating the Graphic Novel (Mike Chinn) and How to Draw and Sell Comics (Alan McKenzie).

  1. Thanks much for bringing this to our attention, Tammy. I love discovering both new authors and artists, and I was unfamiliar with both in this case. Downloaded the PDF and having just glanced through it I can see why you like his artwork, it’s fantastic! I look forward to spending a little more time reading through the entire PDF.

I love the saturated colors he uses, and I’ll also be keeping an eye out for more of his covers:-)

    • Thank you so much for the kind words – I hope you enjoy the publication. I’m hoping it’ll be something I can keep updating over time as I do more covers (since Alice keeps writing!).

  2. Oh wow… Just – wow! And not only is the artwork fantastic – I now have a wonderful indie author to check out that was previously unknown to me:)). Fabulous post, Tammy!

Thank you! He is so talented, and I believe Lynn might have reviewed one of Alice’s books for the SPFBO this past year.

    • What a perfect response – thank you! Alice’s writing is fantastic; I particularly like her Transmutation series. Every cover has been a genuine pleasure, and a different kind of challenge!

Oh wow what a fun post! I love all of these covers. I’m hard pressed to pick a favorite- but I think it might be the Tornado one? But I like Sabo’s cover too… tough. Makes me wonder what other cover artists are out there.

I’ve just started keeping track of cover artists. I have some favorites now and I’ve added Alex to my list. I think he’s so talented:-)

    • That’s lovely to hear – “Dilemma” is the cover I’m the most proud of, even if it is the most recent. Being able to illustrate the cover for such imaginative writing is such a pleasure!
