This week’s theme: “New” beginnings.
Lynn said we can interpret this theme any way we like, so I chose to feature a book with the word “new” in the title. The Good Fairies of New York by Martin Millar came out way back in 1992, but I think I discovered it around 2006. I loved this quirky urban fantasy that is a perfect example of Martin Millar’s trademark humor. Here are the covers I found:

Some of these are just weird? (The Chinese edition, what??) But I do love the quirkiness of a couple, especially the Fourth Estate edition. But my favorite has to be the French edition:

Oh, indeed! As soon as I saw the cover for the French edition I fell in love with it: the color choice and the buildings seen through some sort of haze make them look… well, magical! 🙂
Quirky is right. I don’t think I’d pick up the more bizarre-looking ones. The Soft Skull Press version seems understated, serious (like it’s hinting that the book is literary), and highlights the title. I like it the best.

Ooh so many different ones. I kinda like that Piatkus cover- it’s so quirky- and the Italian edition too.
I agree, I like the French cover. It has a great monochromatic look to it. And the fairies looking out at the city, sitting on the viewer, that’s fantastic. It gives a very particular feeling to it.

Hmm, none of these are really leaping out at me, but the Chinese edition is kinda cool! I look at that and wonder what the heck I’m looking at 😀
