The Friday Face-Off: Dark & Foreboding

The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!

This week’s theme: Longest night – A dark and foreboding cover.

Since I’m throwing this post together at the last minute, I’ve decided to make things really simple this time. I’ve got only two covers today, but I think this book fits the theme perfectly. I’ve chosen The Chrysalis by Brendan Deneen, a spooky story about aliens and scary things in the basement of a house and a slowly deteriorating marriage. It was a lot of fun! Only two covers, as I mentioned, so it should be easy to pick. Right?

U.S. Tor Books edition 2018 | Russian edition 2019

I honestly do not know which one I like best, so I’m leaving it up to you guys! Let me know in the comments which cover is your favorite:-D

  1. Beautiful, eerie covers, both of them, but I slightly prefer the Russian edition because of the twist in the “roots” spreading under the house: they add a definite sensation of *wrongness* that’s very appealing… 🙂

  2. I really like the US one most but the Russian one intrigues me with the twisted roots part to the house. So I find that one to actually be more interesting although the other is aesthetically my favourite.

  3. Sarah

I love both! I also am adding this to the TBR because between your description of creepy things in the basement and that cover I’m pretty much sold.
