The Friday Face-Off: Temple/Religious Icon

The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!

This week’s theme: A cover that features a temple or religious icon.

This theme was hard for me! But I finally decided to go with Horns by Joe Hill, and luckily one of the covers has a statue of an angel on it. That’s a religious icon, right? Wait, what about devils? Or maybe that’s anti-religious? Sorry you guys, I’m clueless when it comes to religion. But anyway, this book has some cool covers, take a look:

U.S. edition 2010 | UK edition 2011 | UK edition 2014

UK hardcover edition 2010 | Italian edition 2012 | German edition 2010

Polish edition 2010 | Bulgarian edition | Serbian edition 2013

Czech edition 2010 | Russian edition 2010 | Slovak edition 2011

PS Publishing edition (UK) 2010 | Hebrew edition 2013 | Hungarian edition 2012

I love a lot of these! But I think my favorite is the Polish edition. I just love the artwork and the colors:

Which is your favorite?

  1. I love the fact that you chose HORNS for a book with a religious icon. I would think angels AND demons count right? So I think I really like the UK hardcover but honestly, there are some really great ones here – and some disturbing. Good thing booksnake wasn’t popular back then or it would be front and center on most of the covers. I did enjoy this book despite the slithery creatures EVERYWHERE!

  2. Lol… I love the notion that the devil is a religious icon:)). But there is the crucifix, so I reckon you’re fine with this week’s choice – it was difficult, wasn’t it? There are some cracking covers here – but in the end, I have to go with your choice, so clever with the shadow turning into something different…

Well, I’m not sure I chose right for the theme, but oh well! There certainly are a lot of covers to choose from.

  3. Interesting choice for the theme! 🙂 I really like the UK hardcover edition from 2010. Just something about that mix of items. I have to say, though, this is one of the very rare instances where I preferred the movie over the book. I loved the story idea but I thought the novel was far too long, it just dragged on for me. The movie, th0ugh, was a great length for the story.

I think I like the UK 2011 edition… Even though its less horror-ish than some of the others. Also- I still need to read this. Sigh.
