Who doesn’t love lists? I’m betting I’m not the only one, and today I’m kicking off SciFiMonth with a list of twelve upcoming adult SF books I’m very excited to read. You may have seen some of these on my Future Fiction posts in the past, but I wanted to showcase them again! These are listed in order of pub date, and clicking on the titles will take you to the Goodreads page (in case you need to add to that overflowing TBR!) Also, I only talk about books that already have covers, so my list only goes up to June 2020 for this reason. Here we go!
1.
The Vanished Birds by Simon Jimenez. Release date: January 14. I just recently discovered this book (where were you hiding??) and even though my January review book schedule is already full, I’m tempted to request it. Time travel!
2.
Finna by Nino Cipri. Release date: February 25. Just go read the Goodreads blurb. Seriously, this sounds sooo funny!
3.
Cyber Shogun Revolution by Peter Tieryas. Release date: March 3. This is set in the same world as Tieryas’ Mecha Samurai Empire and United States of Japan, and I couldn’t be more excited to revisit his really cool world.
4.
Docile by K.M. Szpara. Release date: March 3. I’m so intrigued by this story about “kept” slaves called Dociles. I have no idea where Szpara is going to go with his story but I’m there for it:-D
5.
The Companions by Katie M. Flynn. Release date: March 3. “The dead can be uploaded to machines…” That is why I want to read this!
6.
The City We Became by N.K. Jemisin. Release date: March 26. I think a lot of readers are looking forward to the new N.K. Jemisin, although I’m seeing some mixed reviews already on Goodreads…
7.
The Book of Koli by M.R. Carey. Release date: April 14. I’m beyond excited for a new M.R. Carey book, I have loved everything he’s written so far!
8.
Repo Virtual by Corey J. White. Release date: April 21. I was drawn to this book because of the cover, but I’m even more excited to dive into some cyperpunk, a subgenre I haven’t read in a while.
9.
Network Effect by Martha Wells. Release date: May 5. I’ll be diving into the first Murderbot book soon in preparation for catching up before next May!
10.
Unreconciled by W. Michael Gear. Release date: May 12. This is the 4th book (but probably not the last) in Gear’s fantastic series set on another planet. All SF fans should check out this series!
11.
Harrow the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir. Release date: June 2. This crazy sci-fi/fantasy mashup is coming back for more, and despite my mixed feelings about Gideon the Ninth, I’m very curious to see what happens next.
12.
Random Sh * t Flying Through the Air by Jackson Ford. Release date: June 16. While the first book in the series set the story against the raging brush fires of California, this second book tackles earthquakes!
I LOVE the cover of Harrow the Ninth so much, I really need to give Gideon the Ninth a try. I’m excited for The City We Became, too – I can’t wait for more Jemisin!

You should try Gideon, I’m sure it will be one of those series where you have to read the books in order. And you know you’re going to want a copy of Harrow, since it’s so gorgeous!
Excellent choices! Some of these I know will be on my upcoming sci-fi list later this month! 🙂
I’m looking forward to your list!
This is a fantastic list! (And yay for Adult SF!) 2020 is already looking to be a jam packed year. Especially March. I’m dreading March. Lol
Ha ha, I guess March is bad, right? I think Spring is a popular time to release new books. And I’m really struggling to come up with ten YA books for next week! I’m going to have to dig deep.
Popsugar has a list out for YA in 2020. No idea what genre though. I feel like it’s a lot of sequels/trilogies which is always kind of a bummer to me.
And yes, March of 2020 is shaping up to look like September of 2019 for me right now.
I’ll check the Popsugar list. I need to find four more YA books this weekend!
It does look like there are some YA SFF on there! I don’t know if they are new to you or not: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.popsugar.com/entertainment/20-lgbtq-ya-books-coming-out-in-2020-46796815/amp
There aren’t any science fiction titles on this list, unfortunately. But I see some good ones!
Darn it! I saw Scavenge the Stars and thought that one was maybe SF. Sorry! I just did a brief search for myself and struggled to find even 2. YA is almost all fantasy these days it seems like.
I’m very excited to read The City We Became, so immediately went to Goodreads to check out the negative reviews and people are annoying. I really dislike people who rate books without reading them.
Oh totally! I don’t really know what people are thinking, even rating books that they haven’t read. It’s pretty rude.
So Jackson Ford has some of the best titles ever! I love it. I still need to read that one as well as Gideon the Ninth. But man, how awesome is the cover for Harrow the Ninth? I never tire of seeing it. I WILL catch up on the Gear series….that’s my current mantra. Great list and I hope you get to them all. And hey, you KNOW you want to request The Vanished Birds (push push).
You should catch up with the Gear series, he’s really keeping it strong, I’m so happy!
I don’t read nearly as much sci-fi as I did when I was in high school, but I am quite intrigued by Docile. That’s going on the watch-list for sure.

Knowing your reading preferences, I imagine you’ll probably really like Docile!
These are some on my radar too. Ford, Carey, and White. And I need to read the Gideon book too.
You have to read Gideon just so you can say you read it, lol.
So true!
I just finally got a copy of the first Jackson Ford book — but knowing that it has to do with wildfires and the sequel with earthquakes may be a little too close to home for me. 🙂 Basically, I’m adding all of these to my TBR! I especially can’t wait for The Song of Koli, but Finna is pretty high on my list too just because the premise is so adorable. Great list!
Oh that’s right, the fires might be too close for comfort. It’s funny because part of the story takes place in Burbank, where I live, and the fires in the story are based on the bad ones from a couple of years ago that I remember very clearly.
I still haven’t read Gideon The Ninth but I love the cover and Harrow the Ninth also has a super awesome cover! I hope you like this one better than Gideon
I’m going to be cautiously optimistic. I actually gave Gideon four stars because the good overpowered the negative.
I really need to pick up Mecha Samurai Empire at some point, that sounds like something I will enjoy so much. The City We Became is definitely on my list, and of course, MURDERBOT!!

Mecha Samurai Empire was unexpectedly so much fun!
I’m going to be very unoriginal but the book that interests me the most in the one by N.K. Jemisin! 😀

That’s not unoriginal at all! I think a lot of people can’t wait for it:-)
Also, it’s great to hear from you Maryam! It’s been a while, hope all is good:-)
Murderbot’s full novel!!!! I can hardly wait for that one…
And since I finished Michael Gear’s Pariah yesterday, I’m more than ready for the new novel – and so very happy that this series is going beyond a “mere” trilogy! 😀 😀

Oh yes, Gear’s series has so much potential for lots more stories. I’m glad he isn’t finished!
The Companions sounds so cool! I’ll definitely have to give that one a look 🙂
Doesn’t it sound great? I just love the idea:-)
Looks like a lot of great books coming out in 2020. Want to read many of these books.
2020 is going to be another great year for SF:-)
The City We Became and The Vanished Birds are both calling to me… but there are also others in that list I want to get hold of! Thank you for sharing- as always an awesome list than invariably expands my TBR:))
Luckily I’ve already talked about most of these before:-)
So many gorgeous covers and intriguing premises, Tammy! I’m most excited about the new Jackson Ford and the Carey book!
I’m so excited for both:-)
Some solid, highly anticipated books here! Most of these are on my early 2020 list!
These are definitely the ones I’m most excited for so far, and I know we’ll be bombarded with many more as the year goes on!
I’m planning on starting Murderbot soonish – it looks so good!
I just finished the first one, and loved it! And it’s a very quick read.
The Vanished Birds is one I have for review. I couldn’t resist requesting it because of the time travel. I still need to start the Murderbot series too. The first book has been on my kindle for months now, lol.

Ooh me too! I just read the first Murderbot book and LOVED it. Now I’m hooked:-)
I’m SO excited for The City We Became! Also Docile, hope to be reading that soon, maybe December… 😀
Network Effect is going to be amazing, can’t wait!
I see you saved the best for last here. 😉 I haven’t heard of a lot of these, but I can’t tell you how excited I am for Harrow the Ninth! Also, Jackson Ford’s next book? yes, please. I haven’t actually read anything about it lately, so I didn’t realize that it involved an earthquake, but I am totally up for that. Looking forward to it!
All of these books sound like good reads. Fun post!
Who doesn’t love lists?
The Companion s really stands out for me. Definitely curious.
