Who doesn’t love lists? I’m betting I’m not the only one, and today I’m kicking off SciFiMonth with a list of twelve upcoming adult SF books I’m very excited to read. You may have seen some of these on my Future Fiction posts in the past, but I wanted to showcase them again! These are listed in order of pub date, and clicking on the titles will take you to the Goodreads page (in case you need to add to that overflowing TBR!) Also, I only talk about books that already have covers, so my list only goes up to June 2020 for this reason. Here we go!

1.

The Vanished Birds by Simon Jimenez. Release date: January 14. I just recently discovered this book (where were you hiding??) and even though my January review book schedule is already full, I’m tempted to request it. Time travel!

2.

Finna by Nino Cipri. Release date: February 25.  Just go read the Goodreads blurb. Seriously, this sounds sooo funny!

3.

Cyber Shogun Revolution by Peter Tieryas. Release date: March 3. This is set in the same world as Tieryas’ Mecha Samurai Empire and United States of Japan, and I couldn’t be more excited to revisit his really cool world.

4.

Docile by K.M. Szpara. Release date: March 3. I’m so intrigued by this story about “kept” slaves called Dociles. I have no idea where Szpara is going to go with his story but I’m there for it:-D

5.

The Companions by Katie M. Flynn. Release date: March 3. “The dead can be uploaded to machines…” That is why I want to read this!

6.

The City We Became by N.K. Jemisin. Release date: March 26. I think a lot of readers are looking forward to the new N.K. Jemisin, although I’m seeing some mixed reviews already on Goodreads…

7.

The Book of Koli by M.R. Carey. Release date: April 14. I’m beyond excited for a new M.R. Carey book, I have loved everything he’s written so far!

8.

Repo Virtual by Corey J. White. Release date: April 21. I was drawn to this book because of the cover, but I’m even more excited to dive into some cyperpunk, a subgenre I haven’t read in a while.

9.

Network Effect by Martha Wells. Release date: May 5. I’ll be diving into the first Murderbot book soon in preparation for catching up before next May!

10.

Unreconciled by W. Michael Gear. Release date: May 12. This is the 4th book (but probably not the last) in Gear’s fantastic series set on another planet. All SF fans should check out this series!

11.

Harrow the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir. Release date: June 2. This crazy sci-fi/fantasy mashup is coming back for more, and despite my mixed feelings about Gideon the Ninth, I’m very curious to see what happens next.

12.

Random Sh * t Flying Through the Air by Jackson Ford. Release date: June 16. While the first book in the series set the story against the raging brush fires of California, this second book tackles earthquakes!

And there you have it. Let me know what you think of this list! And check back next week for a list of upcoming 2020 YA science fiction:-D

You should try Gideon, I’m sure it will be one of those series where you have to read the books in order. And you know you’re going to want a copy of Harrow, since it’s so gorgeous!

  1. This is a fantastic list! (And yay for Adult SF!) 2020 is already looking to be a jam packed year. Especially March. I’m dreading March. Lol

  2. I’m very excited to read The City We Became, so immediately went to Goodreads to check out the negative reviews and people are annoying. I really dislike people who rate books without reading them.

    • Tammy

Oh totally! I don’t really know what people are thinking, even rating books that they haven’t read. It’s pretty rude.

  3. So Jackson Ford has some of the best titles ever! I love it. I still need to read that one as well as Gideon the Ninth. But man, how awesome is the cover for Harrow the Ninth? I never tire of seeing it. I WILL catch up on the Gear series….that’s my current mantra. Great list and I hope you get to them all. And hey, you KNOW you want to request The Vanished Birds (push push).

  4. I just finally got a copy of the first Jackson Ford book — but knowing that it has to do with wildfires and the sequel with earthquakes may be a little too close to home for me. 🙂 Basically, I’m adding all of these to my TBR! I especially can’t wait for The Song of Koli, but Finna is pretty high on my list too just because the premise is so adorable. Great list!

Oh that’s right, the fires might be too close for comfort. It’s funny because part of the story takes place in Burbank, where I live, and the fires in the story are based on the bad ones from a couple of years ago that I remember very clearly.

  5. I still haven’t read Gideon The Ninth but I love the cover and Harrow the Ninth also has a super awesome cover! I hope you like this one better than Gideon

I’m going to be cautiously optimistic. I actually gave Gideon four stars because the good overpowered the negative.

Oh yes, Gear’s series has so much potential for lots more stories. I’m glad he isn’t finished!

  6. The City We Became and The Vanished Birds are both calling to me… but there are also others in that list I want to get hold of! Thank you for sharing- as always an awesome list than invariably expands my TBR:))

These are definitely the ones I’m most excited for so far, and I know we’ll be bombarded with many more as the year goes on!

  7. I see you saved the best for last here. 😉 I haven’t heard of a lot of these, but I can’t tell you how excited I am for Harrow the Ninth! Also, Jackson Ford’s next book? yes, please. I haven’t actually read anything about it lately, so I didn’t realize that it involved an earthquake, but I am totally up for that. Looking forward to it!
