Future Fiction #43: Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

An interesting mix this week, an adult fantasy sequel, a YA fantasy debut, and a thriller from a much loved author…

Following the events of The Beautiful, Sébastien Saint Germain is now cursed and forever changed. The treaty between the Fallen and the Brotherhood has been broken, and war between the immortals seems imminent. The price of loving Celine was costly. But Celine has also paid a high price for loving Bastien.

Still recovering from injuries sustained during a night she can’t quite remember, her dreams are troubled. And she doesn’t know she has inadvertently set into motion a chain of events that could lead to her demise and unveil a truth about herself she’s not quite ready to learn.

Forces hiding in the shadows have been patiently waiting for this moment for centuries. And just as Bastien and Celine begin to uncover the danger around them, they learn their love could tear them apart.

The Damned (The Beautiful #2) by Renée Ahdieh. Releases in June 2020 from G. Putnam’s Sons Books for Young Readers. I’ll admit I still need to read The Beautiful, but when I saw this cover I knew I just had to feature this book anyway. Now I have even more of a reason to catch up! Have you read The Beautiful yet?

The daughter of a star and a mortal, Sheetal is used to keeping secrets. But when a flare of starfire injures her human father, Sheetal needs a full star’s help to heal him. A star like her mother, who returned to the sky long ago.

Sheetal’s quest will take her to a celestial court of shining wonders and dark shadows, where she must act as her family’s champion in a competition to decide the next ruling house of the heavens—or risk never returning to Earth at all.

Neil Gaiman’s Stardust meets a rich landscape of Hindu mythology and celestial intrigue in this sparkling YA fantasy debut.

Star Daughter by Shveta Thakrar. Releases in August 2020 from HarperTeen.  OK, did you see that sentence that says she is “the daughter of a star” ??? How can I let a book like that slip by me? I can’t. This is Thakrar’s debut, and it looks like it’s an own voices YA novel!

Renowned author Silvia Moreno-Garcia’s first thriller, UNTAMED SHORE, is a coming-of-age story set in Mexico which quickly turns dark when a young woman meets three enigmatic tourists.

Baja California, 1979. Viridiana spends her days watching the dead sharks piled beside the seashore, as the fishermen pull their nets. There is nothing else to do, nothing else to watch, under the harsh sun. She’s bored. Terribly bored. Yet her head is filled with dreams of Hollywood films, of romance, of a future beyond the drab town where her only option is to marry and have children.

Three wealthy American tourists arrive for the summer, and Viridiana is magnetized. She immediately becomes entwined in the glamorous foreigners’ lives. They offer excitement, and perhaps an escape from the promise of a humdrum future.

When one of them dies, Viridiana lies to protect her friends. Soon enough, someone’s asking questions, and Viridiana has some of her own about the identity of her new acquaintances. Sharks may be dangerous, but there are worse predators nearby, ready to devour a naïve young woman who is quickly being tangled in a web of deceit.

Silvia Moreno-Garcia is one of the most exciting voices in fiction, and with her first crime novel, UNTAMED SHORE, she crafts a blazing novel of suspense with an eerie seaside setting and a literary edge that proves her a master of the genre.

Untamed Shore by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. Releases in February 2020 from Agora Books. This is a bit outside my wheelhouse, but hey, it’s Silvia Moreno-Garcia so I MUST read it! Her books are so different from each other, and this one is no exception. A coming-of-age thriller set in 1979 Baja California? Yes please.

  1. The Damned has a gorgeous cover! I also still need to read The Beautiful. Hopefully we enjoy it!
The daughter of a star. That sold me! Looking forward to seeing reviews.

As always, I love these posts of yours 🙂

  2. So I featured The Damned today too and nope, I haven’t read The Beautiful yet either. Seems to be a trend. I do love the cover. I am very curious about the other two you featured. I’m not quite sure about the shark one but you know I’m always intrigued by the author so I’ll probably try it out eventually. Usually when I hear mention of sharks, I gravitate more toward horror and killer creatures. We’ll see. Great books this week!

My only hesitation about the shark book is I didn’t like the part about shark bodies piling up on the shore. Depending on how that goes, this might not be the right book for me.

  3. Three great covers! I’m not sure I’d actually read any of these though… The Beautiful is a vampire story, right? I think I had my fill of those long ago 🙂 — plus I’ve felt let down by that author’s earlier works, so I’m thinking The Beautiful and The Damned won’t work for me either.

    • Tammy

I haven’t read a vampire story in a while, so I am curious about these. But I know what you mean, it’s hard to find a good one these days:-)

  4. How do you do it??? HOW!!! Untamed Shore… oh yes, yes, yes! Please!!! AND Star Daughter looks amazing:)). I now have to go and lie down in a darkened room to recover…

    • Tammy

LOL sorry to cause you distress! I’m signed up for Moreno-Garcia’s newsletter, otherwise I never would have found Untamed Shore.

  5. So I was all over Star Daughter- title and cover, and then I read the blurb and I’m kind of just scratching my head right now. Like what?!

Untamed Shore sounds pretty good. Silvia Moreno Garcia is becoming pretty prolific.

    • Tammy

Ha ha, well it does sound a bit odd! And yes, Silvia Moreno-Garcia is really publishing on a regular basis. Plus she owns a publishing company as well and has all sorts of projects going on.

  6. I’m definitely adding that new Silvia Moreno-Garcia! But something tells me the shark action isn’t going to be exactly the type I’m hoping for after seeing that cover 😀 And I’m going to be checking out The Beautiful sequel, unlike some others, I actually enjoyed the first book a lot.

  7. The Captain

So very much want the untamed shore book! Favourite author and shark on the cover. Arrr!
    x The Captain
