The Friday Face-Off: Autumn/Fall

The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!

This week’s theme: “Warm September brings the fruit.” – A cover that is seasonal for autumn/fall.

I decided to go for a Halloween theme this week, just cause I’m in the mood! Plus nothing says “Fall” to me as much as pumpkins. The Halloween Tree by Ray Bradbury is a classic, and there are quite a few covers, although strangely, I only like a couple of them. Take a look:

Yearling edition (English) 1999 | Knopf Books for Young Readers Kindle edition 2015

Turkish edition 2017 | French edition 2015

Greek edition 2012 | Portuguese edition 1972

Honestly, these were the only covers I liked, and out of these six, my favorite is hands down the French edition. I love the contrast of the glowing jack o’lanterns and the dark tree branches:

Let me know which one you like best:-D

  1. I like the Greek edition the best. Something about the starkness of the design and it’s use of only three colors – black, white and orange. I just bought a copy of Something Wicked This Way Comes to read this October. It will be my first reading of it. Yes, Fall=Halloween.

  2. This is a great choice for this week’s subject, Tammy – and yes, yes, yes… your choice is the clear winner by a long country mile… I just love the colours and those rather creepy pumpkins in the tree:))

  3. I really lean towards the Knopf Books for Young Readers Kindle edition. There’s something about it. I haven’t read nearly enough Bradbury. I have a number of his books (though I don’t believe I have The Halloween Tree), just need to prioritize reading them.

I think I Like the Greek and the Yearling edition best. I love the art on the yearling edition and the twisty haunted branches on the Greek one. Fun pic!

  5. I love the Knopf Books for Young Readers Kindle 2015 edition. I just love the pose of the skeleton on the front. Plus, Gris Grimly is listed on the cover as the illustrator and I love his work. I didn’t even know it was his work when I saw it. My eyes just immediately caught on that cover.

  6. I love the French one too. I love how creepy the jack o’lantern faces are up there in the trees, and the contrast between the orange and the black. The greek one is cool too but not quite as cool as the French. Something about that Turkish one makes me half expect to see Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin, lol.
