Future Fiction #11: Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

Three new cover reveals spotted this week! I’m excited for all of these, take a look:

Bianca von Hasenberg did her duty for High House von Hasenberg and ended up trapped in a terrible marriage. When her husband dies unexpectedly and leaves her a happy widow, she vows never to marry again. Instead, she uses her connections to save other young women. Information is power and Bianca has a network that would be the envy of the ’verse—if anyone knew about it.

After an attack, Bianca’s oldest brother, the House von Hasenberg heir, disappears from Earth without a trace. Determined to find him, Bianca leaves against orders. When she refuses to return, her father sends Ian Bishop, the director of House von Hasenberg security, to haul her home like a recalcitrant child.

Bianca leads Ian on a merry chase across the universe, but when their paths finally collide, she persuades him that they would be far more successful at finding her brother if they worked together. She will do anything to save her sibling, even if it means spending time alone on a small ship with the handsome, infuriating man who once broke her heart.

As clues lead them deep into rival House Rockhurst territory, Bianca must decide if she can trust Ian with the one piece of information that could destroy her completely. . .

Aurora Blazing (Consortium Rebellion #2) by Jessie Mihalik. Releases in October 2019 from Harper Voyager. I simply adored Polaris Rising earlier this year, and I’m excited to see the sequel releasing so soon after. Also, check out this cover! As far as I can tell, this is more of a companion novel, because the two main characters are different from the first book. We got a big hint at the end of Polaris Rising that Bianca would feature in this book, and I’m happy to see that’s actually the case.

From New York Times bestselling author Kiersten White comes a new fantasy series reimagining the Arthurian legend, set in the magical world of Camelot.

There was nothing in the world as magical and terrifying as a girl.

Princess Guinevere has come to Camelot to wed a stranger: the charismatic King Arthur. With magic clawing at the kingdom’s borders, the great wizard Merlin conjured a solution–send in Guinevere to be Arthur’s wife . . . and his protector from those who want to see the young king’s idyllic city fail. The catch? Guinevere’s real name–and her true identity–is a secret. She is a changeling, a girl who has given up everything to protect Camelot.

To keep Arthur safe, Guinevere must navigate a court in which the old–including Arthur’s own family–demand things continue as they have been, and the new–those drawn by the dream of Camelot–fight for a better way to live. And always, in the green hearts of forests and the black depths of lakes, magic lies in wait to reclaim the land. Arthur’s knights believe they are strong enough to face any threat, but Guinevere knows it will take more than swords to keep Camelot free.

Deadly jousts, duplicitous knights, and forbidden romances are nothing compared to the greatest threat of all: the girl with the long black hair, riding on horseback through the dark woods toward Arthur. Because when your whole existence is a lie, how can you trust even yourself?

The Guinevere Deception (Camelot Rising #1) by Kiersten White. Releases in November 2019 from Delacorte Press. I recently read my first Kiersten White book (Slayer) and loved it, so I’m definitely on board for a Camelot/King Arthur retelling! And do I even need to say it? That cover!!

Imagine a future in which, instead of terraforming planets to sustain human life, explorers of the solar system instead transform themselves.

*FROM THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF THE WAYFARERS*

Adriane is one such explorer. As an astronaut on an extrasolar research vessel, she and her fellow crewmates sleep between worlds, and wake up each time with different features. Her experience is one of fluid body and stable mind, and of a unique perspective on the passage of time. Back on Earth, society changes dramatically from decade to decade, as it always does. Ariadne may awaken to find that support for space exploration back home has waned, or that her country of birth no longer exists, or that a cult has arisen around their cosmic findings, only to dissolve once more by the next waking. But the moods of Earth have little bearing on their mission: to explore, to study, and to send their learnings home.

Carrying all the trademarks of her other beloved works, including brilliant writing, fantastic world-building and exceptional, diverse characters, Becky’s first book outside of the Wayfarers series is sure to capture the imagination of readers all over the world.

To Be Taught, If  Fortunate by Becky Chambers. Releases in September 2019 from Harper Voyager. This is actually a novella, and it’s not set in Chambers’ extremely popular Wayfarers series, so if you are one of the few humans left on Earth who hasn’t read that series (raises hand), then you can get excited for this book!

  1. Darn it! I want all three. You’re seriously killing me every week. Was adding one to my TBR almost every week not enough. So I’m amazed at how beautiful the cover is for Aurora Blazing. And seriously, when does Kiersten White find the time to crank out all these titles?

Agreed, you don’t see many Guinevere retellings, at least I haven’t, and I’m extra excited because it’s Kiersten White:-)

  2. Oh my gosh get out! That new Polaris cover!!!! Woot! Looks amazing- and yay Bianca. To be honest as much as I liked Polaris rising, I was like do I want the next one, or should I save for when it’s cheaper/ library? Safe to say I’m probably be snatching this one up on release!

And more woot! Chambers!!!!! Even if it’s not Wayfarers related, that premise… fluid bodies and perspectives on time, with the changes at home almost being irrelevant, sounds like. Are they becoming creatures of the cosmos almost as much as they were once human? Oh this has shot to the top of my most anticipated list lol.

Right?? Isn’t it gorgeous? I’m really curious about the Chambers book too, I can’t wait:-)

  3. Nice, I almost picked Aurora Blazing as my WoW this week before I found another book that I was really excited about! Plus I had a feeling you would have it covered 😉 And hmm, I had known the new Becky Chambers was going to be a novella, but not that it wasn’t going to take place in the Wayfarers world. But I guess I’m still excited 😀

  4. Ooo, great options!
The first cover reminds me of the Star Wars Old Republic MMO 🙂 It wasn’t the prettiest game, but it had its moments and these colours are like one of the main areas in the game, and even the “fashion” is similar. Ah, i’m getting nostalgic.

  5. I had a feeling that we might follow Bianca and Ian next. Woot
Great week – I love all three. The cover for Guinevere is stunning and I’m always excited to see a new Becky Chambers.
    Lynn 😀
