Waiting on Wednesdays is the brainchild of Jill at Breaking the Spine, and because Jill isn’t hosting it any more, I’m now linking up with Can’t Wait Wednesday at Wishful Endings. Stop over there and link up your “Can’t Wait” book of the week!
Some of you may have read my gushing review of The Silent Companions, and if you did you’ll understand why I’m so excited for this book:
A thrilling Victorian gothic horror tale about a young seamstress who claims her needle and thread have the power to kill
Dorothea Truelove is young, wealthy, and beautiful. Ruth Butterham is young, poor, and awaiting trial for murder.
When Dorothea’s charitable work brings her to Oakgate Prison, she is delighted by the chance to explore her fascination with phrenology and test her hypothesis that the shape of a person’s skull can cast a light on their darkest crimes. But when she meets one of the prisoners, the teenaged seamstress Ruth, she is faced with another strange idea: that it is possible to kill with a needle and thread–because Ruth attributes her crimes to a supernatural power inherent in her stitches.
The story Ruth has to tell of her deadly creations–of bitterness and betrayal, of death and dresses–will shake Dorothea’s belief in rationality, and the power of redemption. Can Ruth be trusted? Is she mad, or a murderer? The Poison Thread is a spine-tingling, sinister read about the evil that lurks behind the facade of innocence.
The Poison Thread by Laura Purcell. Releases in June 2019 from Penguin Books. If you live in the UK, you’ll recognize the UK edition of this book called The Corset, which is already released. I didn’t even know there was going to be a U.S. title change for this book until I was checking out Purcell’s Twitter page. In any case, I’m excited to read this no matter what the title is! I have ordered a copy of The Corset from The Book Depository, and it’s likely I won’t be able to wait until June to read it!
Oh wow, this is an unusual and very creative premise! I hope it’s a good read!
Me too, the premise sounds very unique and original. After reading her last book, I have no doubts it’s going to be amazing:-)
“Victorian gothic horror” And I’m in! 😀
Ha ha, that’s exactly what I said!
I can see why you wanted this book. It sounds riveting!

Riveting is a great description!
It always catches me off guard when they do things like this. That being said, the premise of this book sounds good and I can’t wait to read your review!
Me too, I think it’s confusing to readers. But there must be good reasons, right?
oh man I’m such a sucker for anything gothic! Especially ith unique premises like this one! I can’t wait to hear how you like it! 🙂

It does sound intriguing:-) And after reading her other book, I just know it’s going to be amazing.
I love the premise – and far prefer the US title as it’s so much punchier:). Thank you for sharing this one, Tammy:)
I do love this cover, they are both so different, right?
Yes, I can’t wait for this one either! I actually featured The Corset earlier this year which is the UK edition – I was a little confused when I saw the title change and thought it might be a new one, until I realized they did it for the US edition. I’m just happy it’s got an American publisher and release date!
I’m happy as well, and you have a copy of The Corset, right? I remember seeing it in one of your book hauls. I’m seriously excited after reading The Companions:-)
This looks great!
I know, it just sounds so different from other fantasy books:-)
Oh, this sounds fantastic! Just added to Goodreads

Oh that would be awesome if she did have two books! I’m not sure why they changed the title, but I’m sure it’s going to be fantastic either way:-)
Ok, I am definitely intrigued! How does her needle and thread kill people??? I had never even heard of this one!
