Over-Booked [88] – A Book Haul Post

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! I’m linking up with Stacking the Shelves over at Tynga’s Reviews and The Sunday Post at The Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

It’s been a month since my last book haul post! I’ve been trying not to request too much since I’m still behind with review books, but it’s hard when new, exciting books pop up on NetGalley. I’ve also just cleaned out my office for the first time in, well let’s just say it’s been a few years, and I’m a little shocked that I pulled all these books (and some more that couldn’t make it in the photo) out of my little 10′ x 10′ space:

The books have the run of the house. At least they’re comfy!

I have a hard time letting go of books, but I’m literally running out of space in my house, so I plan on giving some of these to a couple of school librarian friends. And by some I mean maybe ten or twenty. What do you guys do when you run out of book space? I’d love to know!

Anyway, here are even more books that made it into my house in the last several weeks:

Physical books for review:

Three amazing looking books, courtesy of Wunderkind PR, Saga Press and Skyscape:

First up, one of my most anticipated books of summer, European Travel for the Monstrous Gentlewoman by Theodora Goss. This book is monstrous in more than just the title, it’s a huge book!

I’m really excited to have a physical copy of Trail of Lightning by Rebecca Roanhorse, even though it’s past the publishing date. I will be reading this one soon.

The Rule of One by Ashley and Leslie Saunders is new to me, but I can’t look away from this stunning cover. The authors are twin sisters, which is interesting, and I’m looking forward to checking this out.

And from the ever generous Orbit Books, three super exciting books that will be out in July and August!

Bloody Rose by Nicholas Eames is going to rock, I just know it! I loved the first book and I know Eames has lots of fans, so I anticipate this book will be extremely popular. Now to keep myself from reading it before I read my July books!

Dreadful Company by Vivian Shaw is book two in a series. The first book, Strange Practice, was quite fun, and I’m curious to see what these characters are up to next.

Annex by Rich Larson has been getting some buzz and I can’t wait to dive in. Alien invasion story, people!

Huge thanks to Tor for the following: Mystic Dragon by Jason Denzel. This is the second book in a series that I haven’t read yet, unfortunately. I remember hearing good things about Mystic.

A surprise from Tor Teen, Like Never and Always by Ann Aguirre. It sounds like a good thriller, and I believe it’s already had a cover change? (Click on the link to see the cover I’m familiar with).

Drop by Drop by Morgan Llywelyn is already out, but I’m excited to get this on my reading schedule. Although the mixed reviews I’ve seen are scaring me a little…

And I’ve already read and reviewed Gate Crashers by Patrick S. Tomlinson and had a blast!

Finally, I was invited to read The Book of Hidden Things by Francesco Dimitri and I’m intrigued by not only the gorgeous cover, but the setting (Italy) and what looks like hints of magic realism. Thanks to Titan Books!

Digital review books:

I was over the moon when Vintage Books Canada approved me for Lipstick Voodoo by Kristi Charish. I really didn’t think they would approve a U.S. blogger, but I couldn’t be happier! Thank you Vintage Books Canada!

After seeing Keeper of the Bees by Meg Kassel on Mogsy’s blog recently, I immediately requested it when it popped up on NetGalley. This is a very odd sounding Beauty and the Beast story, and I’m looking forward to it:-) Thank you Entangled Teen!

I couldn’t pass up City of Broken Magic by Mirah Bolender when it went up for request, since this has been on my TBR for many months. Thanks to Tor for the approval!

Finally, a new Apex Books title that will be out next month, Nexhuman by Francesco Verso. I’ve read some amazing books from Apex and I’m willing to try just about anything they publish. Thanks Apex!

And now I can say that I have two books by authors named “Francesco” in the same post:-D

And that’s it for me this time around. Let me know if you’re excited about any of these books too:-D

  1. Oh my goodness! Alllll those book… and yet, I don’t know why I’m suprised – I dread to think just how many we’ve bundled up in our loft and there are times when I wonder if the ceiling will suddenly come down… I love the look of Keeper of the Bees, European Travel for Monstrous Gentlewomen and Dreadful Company – you always track down the lovely quirky reads! Have a great weekend, Tammy.

I can’t wait to start The Rule of One, and I’m intrigued by the authors as well.

  2. Annex looks quite interesting, and I remember reading one or two short stories by this author, so I look forward to seeing how he fares with a longer work: I’ll keep on the lookout for your review 🙂
And I can tell you that Bloody Rose is just as good as Kings of the Wyld so… enjoy it!!!!

  3. Wow, look at all those books, I know that feeling! I have a hard time getting rid of books but I have just had to tell myself that I need to get rid of the ones I don’t really want or see myself reading. My taste in books has changed and some I have no desire to read. If I have read them I try to just keep those that are from favorite authors or I really really enjoyed, or just look pretty on my shelf…lol. 🙂 I have tubs full of books as that is what I do when I don’t have room. I will be going through those some times this year and going to the used bookstore with them. 🙂

You also got some great looking books in the mail! Wish I got more book mail! Not heard of most of them so I hope you enjoy them all!

I do have books that I’m not interested in any more so you’d think it would be easy to say “goodbye” to those, but I even struggled over that. I think I need more practice!

I continuously work on only keeping as many books that fit on my shelves. It is tough to do. The library is usually where I donate them. With ARCs, I put those in free giveaway bins or Little Free Library boxes setup around town. Dreadful Company looks like an interesting one in your pile. Enjoy.

  5. So many books! I want to jump into that pile like Scrooge McDuck. 😀

I haven’t run out of room yet so usually I just hold on to them but sometimes I do have a few I want to pass on and usually I’ll see if any of my friends from my book club want them and the rest I donate to a nonprofit that gives away books to people in our community.

I love that you have a non profit like that. I’ll have to research to see if we have one here. I like that idea!

  6. Did you read the first Meg Kassel book? I think this is a companion to it. I loved it a lot and am going to see if I can get my hands on this one! I ran out of space which is how I justify my Kindle purchases. But every once in a while, I still need physical copies.

    • Tammy

I haven’t read the first one, hopefully I don’t need to before I read this one. But I do want to go back, now that I looked both books up, they have similar titles so I can see the “companion” part of it. Yeah, I should think about buying more Kindle books, but it’s just not the same…

  7. Holy crap that’s a lot of books lol. You can never truly have too many though. 🙂 Well other than space limitations.

A lot of these are new to me, I need to get trail of Lightning but Gatecrashers and City of Broken Magic I haven’t seen- they look great tho!

Yeah, and that photo is literally about a quarter of what I own. I have a lot more scattered in other rooms of the house:-)

What to do when you run out of book space? Get a larger book space!! 🙂 Seriously, though, I do the same as you and others, either donate them or trade them in at the few remaining used book stores. I’m not very good at it, though. I have stacks of books beside the book cases, and I’ve been double stacking on my book shelves, putting books I’ve read behind ones I haven’t. That had worked ok until recently one shelf collapsed under the extra weight (hardcovers) onto the one below it. So I may be rethinking that strategy. Good luck with your stacks!

    • Tammy

Oh wow, I do not want my bookshelves to collapse! And I double stack as well, I mean, I don’t want to waste all that extra space, right?

  9. Half my bedrooom closet, as well as the hallway linen closet, are now doing double duty as makeshift bookshelves/book spaces. I don’t know how my husband puts up with me, lol! I know I’ll have to cull my books one day, but I’m going to hold off that day for as long as I can!

And yay for Lipstick Voodoo! I didn’t even try to request because I thought for sure as a US reader I would be denied. Maybe I should chance it! But I’m holding out for Audible Studios to publish the audiobook version!

    • Tammy

Oh believe me, my husband makes jokes about my books all the time. Luckily he has his own hoarding quirks so he really can’t say much about mine!

  10. That is a lot of books! I have a room in my house that is solely for holding books and my other random nerdy memorabilia. It is getting full But I think if I re-arrange my shelves I can make more room! Keeper of the Bees and Trail of Lightning have been on my radar but I have too many other books I want to read so I probably won’t ever actually get to them! Great Haul 😀

  11. Wow, so many books! I have a hard time parting with books as well so when I run out of room on my shelves, I usually box up books that I think I would be willing to part with and then I put the boxes in my closet for a few months. If I haven’t had the urge to put them back on my shelf at that point, I usually donate them to the library or to Goodwill.

  12. Lol about your books being comfy 😛 I’ve heard amazing things about Trail of Lightning and want to try that one! A lot of these look interesting, I’m going to have to check out some of these that I hadn’t heard of.

  13. I love the cover for the Bees and I’m really curious about the Book of Hidden Things. All those books – yeah, I can be ruthless sometimes. I like to keep series (providing I’ve enjoyed them) but otherwise I only really keep the books that I’ve loved.

  14. When I run out of book space I descend into an existential crisis. LOL but really, I donate to library book sales, give them to used book stores for store credit, and double up on the shelves the ones that I absolutely can’t let go of. I’m dying to read City of Broken Magic, too!

  15. BLOODY ROSE!!! I CAN’T WAIT TO READ IT TOO!!! Sorry for the caps, Nicholas Eames is just too brilliant. Anything he writes will surely always be golden! And wow at all those books. It’s a nice idea to give them away to librarians. I honestly don’t know how I’ll be dealing with my excess of books in the future. 😮
