Waiting on Wednesday [299] – IN AN ABSENT DREAM by Seanan McGuire

Waiting on Wednesdays is the brainchild of Jill at Breaking the Spine, and because Jill isn’t hosting it any more, I’m now linking up with Can’t Wait Wednesday at Wishful Endings. Stop over there and link up your “Can’t Wait” book of the week!

This cover was just revealed last week, and I couldn’t be more excited for the fourth novella in McGuire’s wonderful Wayward Children series! Take a look:

A stand-alone fantasy tale from Seanan McGuire’s Alex-award winning Wayward Children series, which began in theย Alex, Hugo, Nebula, and Locus Award-winning, World Fantasy Award finalist, Tiptree Honor Listย Every Heart a Doorway

This is the story of a very serious young girl who would rather study and dream than become a respectable housewife and live up to the expectations of the world around her. As well she should.

When she finds a doorway to a world founded on logic and reason, riddles and lies, she thinks she’s found her paradise. Alas, everything costs at the goblin market, and when her time there is drawing to a close, she makes the kind of bargain that never plays out well.

For anyone . . .

In An Absent Dream (Wayward Children #4) by Seanan McGuire. Releases in January 2019 from Tor.com. Yes, it’s a looong way away! I even hate to type “2019” because it’s giving me anxiety! Yes, these novellas are stand-alones, however, you really should read the entire series, as various characters keep reappearing from story to story. Can’t wait!

Are you reading this series? Let me know what you’re waiting on this week:-D

  1. I love this cover as much as the rest although Sticks and Bones will remain my favorite because it is so dark and atmospheric. Uggghh, what a long wait! I think this one sound s pretty good. Beneath the Sugar Sky fell a tad flat for me but I think it was because the world reminded me of Alice in Wonderland too much and I never liked Alice. I have HIGH hopes for this one.

I think Sticks and Bones is my favorite as well. And I felt the same about Beneath the Sugar Sky, I’m not a big fan of Alice, and it just felt too silly to me.

  2. Another Wayward Children book is truly something to look forward to, even though its predecessor – Beneath the Sugar Sky, that I finished just a few days ago – did not exactly meet my tastes. But I trust McGuire to rally and amaze us once again… ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Arg, I’m still not caught up with this series! I can’t even remember if I’ve read the first one yet, she’s coming out with so much stuff it’s easy to get confused ๐Ÿ˜€

Ha ha, I know she is one busy writer. The good part is you can read these out of order, although I know you don’t usually do that:-)

  4. I love her writing! I’ve only read the first in this series, but given this is a standalone, I might see if I can get into this one. As ever, you have managed to choose a book I really, really want:)

  5. Oh no, I didn’t know this was slated for 2019! I thought it was sometime this Fall! Must…Learn…Patience…

  6. Ooh, what an enchanting cover! I haven’t started this series yet but I’ve been meaning to and have a couple of the books waiting on my kindle. I really love the synopsis for this one too. Great pick!

  7. I don’t know how she does it! So many books. I do want to catch up with this series – the first was so good.
