You would think after all my recent Top Ten lists of anticipation, I would run out of WoW picks…but no! I always have one more book I’m looking forward to. Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine, so head on over there to see more WoW picks! Here’s what I’m excited about today:
The Islands at the End of the World by Austin Aslan. Release date: August 5 2014 (Wendy Lamb Books). This book sounds amazing: it’s part disaster story, part survival tale, with some science fiction elements thrown in. Also, the main character has epilepsy. What an odd and wonderful mixture of elements! Here’s the Goodreads description:
In this fast-paced survival story set in Hawaii, electronics fail worldwide, the islands become completely isolated, and a strange starscape fills the sky. Leilani and her father embark on a nightmare odyssey from Oahu to their home on the Big Island. Leilani’s epilepsy holds a clue to the disaster, if only they can survive as the islands revert to earlier ways.
A powerful story enriched by fascinating elements of Hawaiian ecology, culture, and warfare, this captivating and dramatic debut from Austin Aslan is the first of two novels. The author has a master’s degree in tropical conservation biology from the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
Aren’t you ready to add that to your TBR list? Let me know what you’re waiting on this week!
I love this mixes of many different genres and subgenres. You’re right that it sounds fascinating.
Great pick!
OK this sounds awesome and best of all is new to me. Thanks for stopping by My WoW and sharing yours!
I’ve actually never heard of this one, but OMG a survival story! The only other survival story that I’ve heard of (for 2014) is NIL. I hope this one is epic, Tammy! 😀
Thanks for visiting my blog!
Alyssa @ The Eater of Books!
I haven’t heard of this one yet, it sounds intriguing for sure! I’m always interested of “end of the world” books! And it sounds like it has some unique elements with a character with epilepsy, etc.!
(by the way, I don’t know if it’s some glitch with Twitter or WordPress but I wasn’t able to authorize the Twitter app to place my comment like I usually do. The pop up came up (the pop up box itself) although it was completely blank where the usual info is to allow the app access.)
I can never remember my gravatar password for these things, bleh!
I’m just seeing this. So glad you’re stoked about the book! Thanks for the support. Can’t wait for August 5!
Thanks Austin, I appreciate you stopping by!
