It’s time for my first Top Ten list for Wyrd & Wonder, where all month long we’re celebrating all things fantasy! Click on that link to learn more and join in the fun:-D

Today I’m highlighting sequels: fantasy sequels in particular. These are all series I’m reading and loving, and all these sequels will be coming out in the next nine months or so. I’m listing these in order of release date, and you can click on the titles to go to the Goodreads page of each one.

Priest of Lies by Peter McLean. Book #2 in his War for the Rose Throne series. Release date: July 2 2019. I’ll admit I wasn’t blown away by Priest of Bones, but I’m invested enough to see what happens next. Also, the publisher has kindly sent me an ARC:-D

Darkdawn by Jay Kristoff. Book #3 in his Nevernight Chronicles series. Release date: September 3 2019. I feel like the release date was pushed back and it’s been a LONG time since I read Godsgrave. I’m eager to dive back into Kristoff’s bloody, assassin-y world.

The Girl the Sea Gave Back by Adrienne Young. Book #2 in her Sky in the Deep series. Release date:  September 3 2019. Technically this isn’t a sequel, but it is a companion novel set in the same world. I was surprised how well written and plotted Sky in the Deep was, and I’m looking forward to reading more from Young.

The Hanged Man by K.D. Edwards. Book #2 in The Tarot Sequence. Release date: September 17 2019.  Oh how I loved The Last Sun!! It was such a wonderful surprise. I still don’t have a review copy of The Hanged Man which is making me very anxious, but I am still working on getting one. This is a series you need to start if you haven’t already!

The Girl With No Face by M.H. Boroson. Book #2 in The Daoshi Chronicles. Release date: October 1 2019. This is an underrated series that I wish more people would read, because it’s excellent! I read The Girl With Ghost Eyes about four years ago and absolutely loved it. Can’t wait to see what the author has done in those past four years!

Dragon Unleashed by Grace Draven. Book #2 in her Fallen Empire series. Release date: November 12 2019. This is another companion novel, as I believe this is a new set of characters. I fell in love with Grace Draven’s worldbuilding, writing and characters when I read Phoenix Unbound, so I’m deliriously excited about returning to this world.

Flamebringer by Elle Katharine White. Book #3 in her Heartstone series. Release date: November 12 2019. This has been such a fun series! The first book is a Pride and Prejudice retelling, but the second book veers off of that and gives us more of White’s incredible world. I cannot wait for the next book!

Come Tumbling Down by Seanan McGuire. Book #5 in her Wayward Children series. Release date: January 7 2020. I just featured this book last week on Future Fiction, but I had to add it to this post as well because I’m very excited to read more about Jack, a character from Down Among the Sticks and Bones.

Shorefall by Robert Jackson Bennett. Book #2 of his Founders series. Release date: January 21 2020. And here’s another book I just featured, but hey, I know you wanted to see these two covers side by side, so you’re welcome:-D

The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black. Book #3 in The Folk of the Air series. Release date: November 19 2019. Oops, this is out of order. I believe the publisher just changed the release date, it used to be January. Anyway, EVERYONE is excited for this book, right? No explanation needed!

And that’s my list! I’d love to know if you’re reading any of these series:-D

  1. So many books on here that I want to read – especially excited for the Kristoff book – oh, who am I kidding, I’m excited for nearly all of these!

Ha ha I know, there are just too many books coming out. I guess we should feel lucky??!!

  2. I’m not reading any of these yet, but I’ve picked up the first three books in the Wayward Children series and I’d love to start reading the Founders series. Some of the others do look interesting, but I’ll have to hold off on those for now.

  3. Well you know already how I feel about Jack. I really need to read The Wicked King and see if it fares better for me than The Cruel Prince. I really hope to make some time soon for Foundryside, Heart Stone and Phoenix Unbound. Looks like you have a lot of good books coming up.

I don’t remember how you feel about Jack but now I’ve got to go back and read your review!

  4. I’ve heard such good things about the Nevernight series, I need to check it out! I can’t wait for The Queen of Nothing and Shorefall (seriously, the American covers for this series are so much prettier than the UK editions!) and Phoenux Unbound is one I’m hoping to read this summer because I love the sound of Dragon Unleashed. I love “banned magic” fantasy stories, and Grace Draven is an author I’d like to read more of this year.

I’m so glad I discovered Grace Draven, I just love her! And I agree, the US covers of Shorefall and Foundryside are amazing!

  5. So many things on here are series I still need to start! I especially want to get to Phoenix Unbound sometime this year. But I’m MOST excited about Shorefall!!

    • Tammy

Phoenix Unbound was such a surprise, and I’m glad I discovered Grace Draven because I want to read all her books now:-)

Thanks Brittany, I was surprised when I put this list together how excited I am about ALL of these:-)

  6. I cannot wait for Darkdawn! I was planning to do a re-read of Nevernight/Godsgrave last year before it came out, but then it was pushed back so I held off on that and I’ve been really looking forward to it. Come Tumbling Down and Queen of Nothing are also exciting ones–I was so surprised when they pushed Queen of Nothing’s update UP, you rarely see that in publishing, haha.

  7. Gorgeous covers, and these all sound likes series I need to read, Tammy. I’ve always wanted to try Holly Black and that series, and I’ve already told you how I felt about Foundryside. SO GOOD. I hope you get a chance to read all of these and love them!

  8. I’m veering towards Wayward Children weirdly not being my thing (which given how much I loved Every Heart a Doorway has come as quite a shock let me tell you), but oh hell The Girl The Sea Gave Back is an awesome book title and I’ve never heard of this series but perhaps I should have done? 😀
