Last week I posted my list of 14 Awesome Science Fiction Books Coming Out in 2019 – The Adult Edition, and today we’re focusing on upcoming YA books! You know, in case you need more books to add to your TBR;-)  There are a bazillion YA fantasies out there, but sci-fi is much harder to find, I discovered as I was putting together this post. I’ve tried to keep this list as stand alone or first book in a series only, but I just realized I do have one sequel on here. I am only featuring books that already have covers, because no one wants to look at a blank book cover, right? This list is ordered by release date, and I’m linking to the Goodreads page, you know, just in case. Let’s go!

#1 Stolen Time by Danielle Rollins. Launch date: 2/5/19 from HarperTeen.

This time travel story is the first in a duology and focuses on two different characters in two timelines, and it sounds really good! I’ve read a couple of other books by Rollins (who also goes by Danielle Vega) and I really enjoyed them.

#2 The Last 8 by Laura Pohl. Launch date: 3/1/19 from Sourcebooks Fire.

Stories about surviving alien attacks are always catnip for me, and this one is no different! This is also the start of a duology (two is the new three?) so let’s all get in on the ground floor:-)

First, please notice how beautiful these two books are side by side:-)

#3 The Pioneer by Bridget Tyler. Launch date: 3/5/19 from HarperTeen.

I’m a sucker for books about starting a new life on a different planet, and this one sounds really good. It’s already got some really good reviews on Goodreads, can’t wait!

#4 Once & Future by Amy Rose Capetta & Cori McCarthy. Launch date: 3/5/19 from Little, Brown and Company.

A gender-bent King Arthur tale. In space. That’s pretty much all you need to know.

#5 When the Sky Fell on Splendor by Emily Henry. Launch date: 3/12/19 from Razorbill.

Any mention of Stranger Things is going to get my attention, so this is a no-brainer for me!

#6 A Boy and his Dog at the End of the World by C.A. Fletcher. Launch date: 4/23/19 from Orbit Books.

So excited for this post-apocalyptic story of a boy and his dog. And based on the Goodreads blurb, I’m going to love the MC’s voice:-)

#7 One Word Kill by Mark Lawrence. Launch date: 5/1/19 from 47North.

This is also labeled “fantasy” on Goodreads, but I’m definitely getting a SF vibe, so that’s why it’s on the list. Also, Mark Lawrence!

#8 Sky Without Stars by Jessica Brody & Joanne Rendell. Launch date: 5/26/19 from Simon Pulse.

This cover alone is making me curious, and I’m happy that I already have a review copy of this book:-)

#9 Immunity by Erin Bowman. Launch date: 7/2/19 from HarperTeen.

This is the only sequel on the list, and it’s on here because the first book in the series, Contagion, is on my TBR and I need to remind myself to read it!

#10 Mind Games by Shana Silver. Launch date: 8/27/19 from Swoon Reads.

Yes, this is waaay out there as far as launch date goes. But it sounds so good! And trippy. And we all need trippy in our science fiction, right?

Don’t these sound fantastic? Are you planning on reading any of these?

  1. I was so excited when I saw the release date for Immunity – and then it clicked that this was the American date format, so 2nd July, not 7th Feb! I NEED THIS SEQUEL IN MY EYEBALLS ASAP, AAAGH.

This is a great list, I’m adding pretty much all of them to my TBR!

Once & Future sounds really unique, and I’m wondering how it’s going to be with two authors on board:-)

  2. Ooh there’s a cover for Immunity! And it’s awesome too- yes!!!!! Just made my day lol. I NEED that book after Contagion’s ending, good grief.

And Mind Games- that cover alone makes me want it. I always like trippy in SF!

  3. Awesome list! And what gorgeous covers <3
Haven't read the blurbs yet, but the Pioneer already sounds good 😀 Or maybe i'm just seduced by the cover. Hehe.

  4. I like the sound of Stolen Time and the cover is awesome. I have a copy of A Boy and His Dog and look forward to picking it up.
    Great list.
    Lynn 😀

  5. John Smith

A lot of good things here! Maybe starting with some trippy “Mind Games” might be the thing!
