The Friday Face-Off: Door

The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!

This week’s theme: “Knock, knock.” “Who’s there?” – A cover featuring a door ajar or closed.

I was having trouble with the theme this week, but then I remembered The Drawing of the Three, the second book in Stephen King’s The Dark Tower series, in which doors play a prominent part in the story. There are a TON of covers for this book, not surprisingly, so I picked only the ones with doors on them to compare. Take a look:

Scribner 2016 | French edition 2006

Russian edition 2012 | Czech edition 1999

Portuguese edition 2014 | Signet edition 2003

My two favorites are the Scribner and the Portuguese, but if I had to pick it would be:

I like the moodiness of this cover, as well as the colors.

Which one is your favorite?

  1. What a fabulous choice for this week’s theme! I have to say I struggled a bit to find a suitable book for this one and rather stretched the concept of what makes a door as a consequence! I like all the covers but I agree with your choice. The close contender for me is the French edition, but I don’t like the way they have shoved the title in amongst Stephen King’s name. It looks untidy and wrong. Have a great weekend, Tammy:)

Me too! I feel like the last two weeks I’ve picked the Portuguese edition. I’ll have to go back and look at last week’s:-)

It really has lots of cool elements that I just noticed, like the crashing waves and the tower in the background:-)

  2. I’m really liking the French cover – which seems to be becoming a ‘thing’ for me recently. Great book choice.

That’s funny that you said that, because it seems like I’m always picking Portuguese covers as my favorite, lol.
