Sci-Fi Month Wrap Up + Giveaway!

I can’t believe it’s over! My plans for Sci-Fi Month didn’t go quite the way I thought they would, but I still had fun when I was able to participate. I simply had too many November review books, so I just wasn’t able to get to everything. Huge thanks to hosts Lisa and Imyril for wrangling everyone’s posts!

Next year I hope to plan a little better so that my November is more science fiction oriented, so we’ll see! In the meantime, to celebrate the end of another fun month, I’m giving away one of the sci-fi books I reviewed this month! One international winner will get to choose one of the following:

Artemis by Andy Weir. I loved Weir’s follow up to The Martian! Set on the moon this time, this is an action-packed story with plenty of Weir’s customary scientific details. Read my review here.

Borne by Jeff VanderMeer. I LOVED this book! It’s super weird, and it might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it pushed all the right buttons for me. Read my review here.

Star Wars Stormtroopers: Beyond the Armor by Ryder Windham and Adam Bray. This is a super cool book for all you Star Wars fans out there! Filled with behind-the-scenes info from the movies, as well as lots of photos and facts about the collectible toys, this is a visual feast for any rabid fan! Read my review here.

Don’t miss the giveaway for one of these books at the end of this post!

I am fairly new to the Sci-Fi genre but I absolutely adore “The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet”! I recently read “The Martian” and enjoyed it a lot. Thats why it would be wonderful to win “Artemis” 🙂

“What’s your favorite sci-fi book? Which book would you choose if you won? What’s the last sci-fi book you read?”

Favorite sci-fi books: Brave New World, The Martian Chronicles.
Which book I would choose: Borne–it sounds very intriguing!
Last sci-fi books I read: I’ve just read the seven Amulet graphic novels, and I’m very disappointed that there are at least two more books to come, and they are nowhere in sight! Where is my Ultimate, Final Battle Between Good and Evil?!

  3. Ohhhhh Artemis would definitely be the giveaway book I’d pick! 🙂 As for favorite science fiction books, it’s a tie between two Ursula K. Le Guin novels: The Lathe of Heaven (which is also my most recent sci fi read) and The Left Hand of Darkness. The Martian by Andy Weir is up there, too. I don’t read as much science fiction as fantasy or magical realism, but if someone highly recommends a book from that genre, I’ll give it a fair chance.

I would choose Borne, because sometimes weird is good. Lately I’ve been reading novellas, specifically JY Yang’s Tensorate stories. I finished Red Threads of Fortune (loved it) and have started Black Tides of Heaven. I don’t have an all time favorite. There are so many wonderful books out there, and I just can’t choose. I tend to go for plausible world building though. I’m an anthropologist, and if the culture doesn’t make sense, it’s difficult to suspend disbelief.

I would choose Star Wars Stormtroopers. My favorite is Serenity (Firefly) but I have started to read more sci-fi in the past 2 years. Dating An Alien Pop Star series is a funny one. I tried Becky Chambers and liked it. 27 Hours by Wright was another good one.

  6. It’s been such a great month – in spite of several of us (including me) saying we didn’t do everything we hoped, would you believe that between us all we’ve generated nearly 200 posts?! (not to mention all the chat on Twitter!) Hooray for SciFi Month 🙂

I would definitely pick Borne. I heard something about a giant bio-engineered flying bear 😉

  7. My plans for SFF month went totally pear shaped. I’ve joined in at least a little in the previous years but this year I don’t know where the month has gone. I seem to be missing a few events and readalongs lately.
I would chuck my hat into the ring and say the Star Wars book (as I’ve read the other two).
    Lynn 😀

fave sci-fi book… Bil the intergalatic Hero….. the one I’d choose… Star Wars Stormtroopers

  9. I would love to win a copy of Borne. I’ve wanted to read it for what seems like forever, and to hear that you loved it only reinforces my need to read it. I’ve read several science fiction books this year (and recently), but have been flying through so many books lately, I can’t seem to remember my own name. I do know I’ve loved Pierce Brown’s books so far (and am waiting for his next book). Thanks for another great giveaway.

I would choose Artemis. I don’t know if it is my favorite sci-fi book, but I read Breed to Come by Andre Norton and it got it me into sci-fi.

  11. Jacob

My favorite Sci-fi book is Starship Troopers. Have read it SO many time! I would choose Star Wars Storm Troopers – looks great!

  12. Clare

Hmm… my current favorite is Ready Player One. Gotta pick Artemis. Thanks for the chance for us bookworms!

  13. Paola

My favorite is Do Robots Dream Of Electric Sheep? and it’s the last one I read! I chose Star Wars Stormtroopers.
