Over-Booked is where I get to share my recent book acquisitions, both purchases and review books, and I’m linked up with Stacking the Shelves and The Sunday Post. I’m happy to report I don’t have a huge haul this week, so far I’m keeping control of my TBR pile! There is one exciting book I’m […]
Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the Broke and the Bookish, where each week bloggers are given a different theme to blog about. My long string of Top Ten Tuesdays is coming to an end, and I think at the end of this month I’ll probably take a break (but there have been so many […]
The nitty-gritty: A strange and glorious story, whose quirky ideas and charming characters surprised me at every turn. Patricia found herself still obsessing about Laurence, as she slid on knee-high leather boots and a black babydoll dress with red sparkles and went to an Irish bar in the Financial District to put a curse on […]
The nitty-gritty: A compact story with big ideas, featuring a fascinating magic system and fierce and determined female characters. I was immediately drawn to this novella by the cover: a beautiful and fierce-looking woman in the middle of a stormy sea. What was happening to her? It is book covers like this that make me want […]
The nitty-gritty: A fantastical gathering of Apex’s best of the last six years, showing a broad range of styles and talents in speculative fiction, with something for everyone. Apex Magazine has been going strong for six years, and I’m so happy to have read this group of stories selected from among hundreds published over the […]

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, then you know I’m a big supporter of Apex Publications, a small company that not only publishes cutting edge SFF novels, but runs an award nominated digital magazine with some of the best short stories out there today. Jason Sizemore is in charge of all things […]

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest book acquisitions! I’m linking up with Stacking the Shelves and The Sunday Post. Head over to those blogs to see more book haul posts. It’s been about three weeks since my last Over-Booked, which is a good thing, because it means not only have I not been […]
The nitty-gritty: More literary ramble than horror, Mamatas’ bleak look at a changed world is beautifully written with sharp spikes of sudden violence. I signed up for drilling because I couldn’t get down to Mexico. I needed to experience life, to find something to write about. I needed pocket money. My credit score was immaterial, my […]
I’m very excited to have debut author Peter McLean visiting today, author of the just-released Drake, out now from Angry Robot. I enjoyed this gritty urban fantasy immensely, and you can read my review here. Angry Robot is kindly giving away FIVE finished hardcover copies of Drake, so don’t forget to enter at the end […]
