The nitty-gritty: A delightful blend of fantasy, the modern-day film industry, and quirky characters that will make you smile. It was midmorning on a Monday when magic walked into my life wearing a beige Ann Taylor suit and sensible flats. I’ve been salivating over this amazing cover for months now, and I was so excited […]
As the saying goes, better late than never! This month I’m having a slightly abbreviated version of my monthly Book Review Giveaway, due to illness/blogging slump. But I did read some amazing books in February, and I want to give one winner the chance to choose one of them. As long as The Book Depository […]
You may be wondering why I haven’t been posting recently, and that would be a really good question. Unfortunately, I was struck down by the nasty influenza beast and I’m now on my EIGHTH day of being sick. I actually feel well enough to write this post, so hopefully that means I’m on the upswing. […]

Welcome to my (almost) every other week post where I share my recent book acquisitions! I think it’s been about three weeks since my last Over-Booked, and I’ve been pretty good about requesting new review books. I really am trying to request books I REALLY want to read, and I’m doing pretty well. I had […]
Welcome to What’s On My Plate, where I attempt to corral my reading plans into some semblance of organization, LOL. (Really, I try, but life always seems to derail my best laid plans…) The crazy month of February is FINALLY over! My daughter’s choir Pop Show was amazing, but completely exhausting for both of us. […]
The nitty-gritty: An atmospheric and eerie ghost story with psychological undertones that make this a satisfying horror story on several levels. The house held only broken dreams, shattered screams, and secret little dirty things. It was a liar’s playground, a dead man’s last stand. I was pleasantly surprised by Damian Angelica Walters’ short story collection […]
The nitty-gritty: A fun and furious romp with the gods through Manhattan, an intricately plotted murder mystery, and a delightful and refreshingly chaste romance. “One half brother with a huge penis, another with giant testicles. No wonder I’ve never gotten along with my family.” – Selene DiSilva I was so excited when I was […]
The nitty-gritty: A short but powerful twist on the Lovecraftian tale, a story that didn’t quite work for me, but overall an interesting, clever and atmospheric tale. Mystery lingered in the air like the scent of a scorched book. It wasn’t until I had finished reading The Ballad of Black Tom that I found out […]
Since I started blogging, I haven’t bought nearly as many books as I used to buy, but once in a while I’m tempted by some of the specialty presses. Subterranean Press has been a favorite publisher of mine for quite some time, and their books are truly spectacular and worth every penny! A note about […]
The nitty-gritty: A refreshingly original YA fantasy with pirates, sea monsters and deeply developed and complex relationships. They can try to kill me all they want, but I’m the girl who stands on the backs of the beasts of the NeoPacific. The Minnow blazes from within, promising life and warmth and villainy, but out here […]
