Future Fiction #405 – Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

Today I have a fantasy series starter from a favorite author, a YA mystery/horror and a workplace horror, take a look:

Hidden from birth into our world until she was twenty, Hannalyn is pulled back into her true world where she discovers she’s the last living member of a powerful house of mages after an attack that has left almost all of her family murdered. Desperate and learning to work magic on the fly, Hannalyn finds that her best hope for survival is marrying into another mage’s home, in New York Times bestselling author Charlaine Harris’s start to a new series.

Madison Briggs is having a tough time. Prone to mysterious seizures, idling away at home, she is shocked to see a portal opening before her in her back yard. Is this the leap of faith that will change her life and give it meaning? When a hand reaches out to her, she grasps it to be transported to the world she was truly born into.

Madison discovers her true name is Hannalyn Severne. She is the last living mage of her family line. Her mother is dead, her true twin is dying, and she’s being hunted by rival mage families. They want to use her untrained power for their own gain. Accompanied by her half-siblings Sandlin and Berea, warriors both, Hannalyn begins the perilous journey to find a safe haven via an arranged marriage. Her courtship is conducted through magical visions as the three travelers traverse a land filled with mercenaries who want her captured, or dead, in New York Times bestselling author Charlaine Harris’s first book in a new series.

Hold My Spellbook (The Stronghold #1) by Charlaine Harris. Releases in February 2027 from Saga Press. A new Charlaine Harris book! And the start to a new series, I’m so excited:-)  Cover rating: B+

Sitting on a hill atop an enigmatic town, a decaying house with a dark legacy draws in a grieving young woman and a teenage journalist, pulling them into a chilling mystery tied to her mother’s death and a string of missing girls. Written in dual POV, this atmospheric YA psychological thriller is perfect for fans of Hazelthorn.

She will become the gruesome rotting thing herself…

Olivia Beckett’s plan has always been the same. Complete one year at her local college in Edgewater, then transfer to NYU, far from the town that’s never stopped blaming her for her eccentric mother’s wasted potential. But when her mother mysteriously drowns, she finds herself stuck. Overwhelmed, Olivia tells herself that the eerie visions she keeps having of her mother are nothing more than stress.

To make matters worse, her high school rival, Logan, returns to town early from his first year at Harvard under curious circumstances and begins interning at their local paper. When Olivia’s ex-girlfriend goes missing, they are drawn together to investigate the last place she was seen: Heath House, a decaying estate once owned by the wealthiest man in town.

Everyone in Edgewater knows about Heath House. It’s the haunted mansion in all the local kids’ ghost stories. Creepy, but ultimately harmless. Or so they thought. As Olivia and Logan form an unlikely alliance—and fight a growing attraction—to delve deeper into the house’s cryptic history, they unearth a series of coverups involving a string of missing girls, including members of Olivia’s own family.

As their investigation continues, the House’s dark legacy calls her inside, promising revelations that will change her life forever.

A Darkness Lives There by Rebekah Faubion. Releases in June 2027 from Delacorte Press. I don’t often feature YA books, but I couldn’t resist this cover and the promise of a possibly huanted mansion and famiy secrets.  Cover rating: A

USA Today bestselling author Chuck Tingle plunges readers beneath the glittering surface of ambition in Rainbow Capital, a surreal nightmare where every opportunity comes with a price.

Scotty is a struggling actress in LA whose credit card debt is growing faster than her career. But as auditions dry up and her savings disappear, she can’t afford to turn down any opportunity that comes her way. A chance encounter at an exclusive party leads her to Rainbow Capital, a queer-focused investment startup in Santa Monica. Its charismatic founder, Carter Nettle, thinks Scotty is the perfect fit. They’re ready to change her life.

The salary is enough to ignore the red flags―at first. The onboarding process is disturbingly unconventional. The competition is cutthroat. And Carter always seems to be inside Scotty’s head. Then the hallucinations begin: vivid crimson sea creatures swimming through her mind.

The deeper Scotty sinks into Rainbow Capital, the more she realizes the company is hiding something monstrous beneath its polished exterior. If she can’t survive the job, she may not survive at all….

Rainbow Capital by Chuck Tingle. Releases in August 2027 from Tor Nightfire. Chuck Tingle’s books are hit or miss for me, but I am always intrigued by workplace horror, and this definitely has potential, especially because of the tentacles on the cover! Cover rating: B+
