Creatures of the Night Book Tag 2026

I haven’t done this tag in three years, so I thought now is the perfect time to bring it back! For each prompt I’m highlighting two books: one I’ve read and one on my TBR. I’m crediting Maddalena for the tag, although she’s sadly no longer blogging.

Read: The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones. A very different, very violent and very powerful vampire tale, written by one of my favorite writers.

Want to read: Milkteeth by Caitlin Starling. This is coming up on my TBR next month, and I can’t wait!

Read: Newbourne Park by Jennifer Thorne. This is a unique werewolf tale full of surprises, and it’s one of Thorne’s best.

Want to read: Werewolves of Waffle Hutch by Reba McQueen. I love this cover, and the story sounds really good too!

Read: If We Survive the Night by Jo Salazar. I really enjoyed this YA zombie story, where the zombies aren’t nearly as dangerous as one of the characters.

Want to read: My Life as a White Trash Zombie by Diana Rowland. I’ve been wanting to read this for years, I’ve heard so many good things about it.

Read: The Sun Down Motel by Simone St. James. This was such an atmospheric, creepy ghost story!

Want to read: This is Not an Exorcism by Ivy Fang. I can’t wait to read this horror debut about a con woman who finds herself faced with a real ghost.

Read: Crone by Keith Rosson. I cheating a bit and using the definition of a “crone” as a witch. In any case, this book was absolutely fantastic!

Want to read: Kill Me With Fire by Chris Panatier. I’m so excited for Chris’s upcoming witch-centric novel!

Read: The Tricky Business of Faerie Bargains by Reena McCarty. I had a lot of fun with this series opener about a woman whose job is to create bargains between humans and faeries, with plenty of twists.

Want to read: The Uncanny Art of Faerie Contracts by Reena McCarty. And this is the sequel! Which comes out next year and is firmly on my TBR.

Read: The Calamities by Chuck Wendig. This is the start to a series, a sprawling horror story about a family who worships demons. Lots of fun!

Want to read: Hell to Pay by Kylie Lee Baker. I am a huge fan of Baker, and her next book deals with a demon-infested apartment and the residents who must deal with it.

Read: The Bones Beneath My Skin by T.J. Klune. This was my first T.J. Klune book and I loved the unique combination of elements, including aliens.

Want to read: Envoy by Yume Kitasei. I love Kitasei’s brand of science fiction, and her upcoming book involves a first contact storyline.
