Future Fiction #403 – Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

Today is a mix of genres coming out next year, take a look:

Set in a near future dystopia, Catriona Ward delivers a brutal and terrifying examination on the true nature of monstrosity . . . and the enduring power of vengeance.

A luxury yacht.
An elite guest list.
No secrets at sea.
What’s promised to be an idyllic trip turns catastrophic when passengers become prey, and the real monsters aboard won’t stay hidden any longer.A famous musician and her peculiar personal assistant, Cara, must navigate increasingly choppy waters with other guests aboard The Solitude, a luxury yacht sailing the Caribbean. With a massive cyclone closing in and the engines suddenly dead, a different kind of danger gathers on deck: a murderer on board, hunting the guests one by one.

But what nobody knows―and what may be their ultimate undoing― is that Cara is the biggest threat to them all.

The Solitude by Catriona Ward. Releases in June 2027 from Tor Nightfire. I am always happy when Catriona Ward releases a new book, and this sounds really good! I can’t tell if there are any speculative elements or not, but I can’t wait to find out. Cover rating: B+

Crazy Rich Asians meets K-Pop Demon Hunters in this gorgeous historical beach read—a glittering Korean Gothic from Monika Kim, Bram Stoker Award-winning author of The Eyes Are the Best Part

SEOUL, 2022. When her brother vanishes after sending a frantic SOS text, Charlotte Chang races to Seoul in search of answers. Julian worked for Youngcheol Kim, head of a billionaire dynasty hiding deadly secrets behind a perfect façade. According to Kim and his three impossibly perfect daughters claim Julian left willingly. Charlotte knows he didn’t.

HANSEONG, 1891. The cherished son of a powerful magistrate is caught in a forbidden love with another young man. His father will go to any length to protect their legacy, and what begins as a punishment quickly spirals into a bloody transformation that will shape their family for generations.

In this gilded, historical thriller, Bram Stoker Award-winning author Monika Kim bridges two rich, riveting timelines, transporting readers from a glittering Manhattan and opulent Seoul to the hushed, suffocating world of 19th-century Korea. What Hungers in the Dark is equal parts haunting and seductive, a lush Korean Gothic filled with blood, obsession, and dark family legacy.

What Hungers in the Dark by Monika Kim. Releases in June 2027 from G.P. Putnam’s Sons. I still haven’t read anything by Kim, but I have all her books on my TBR. This new one sounds so good! Cover rating: A

A delightfully cozy and romantic fantasy adventure from debut author S.E. Whitlock, in which a princess and a rogue mage accidentally join a rebellion with the help of a grumpy dragon.

Princess Linaria can’t control her magic. If she so much as giggles, flowers bloom and die, and fruits explode. But when she’s sent away to marry the prince of a distant kingdom, fate places her secret in the hands of the mysterious scout escorting her.

Kirian is no scout. He’s an earth mage who’s accidentally witnessed the start of a rebellion. Now he’s pretending to be a scout leading a caravan out of the kingdom in order to make his escape. Already saddled with an escaped dragon who won’t leave him alone, Kirian also has to contend with an enchanting lady he shouldn’t want, and his own long-buried sense of honor.

As the mismatched trio make their way through the kingdom, they uncover a secret agenda that could mean the end of magic as they know it. And if Kirian and Lin want to put a stop to it, they’ll have to find a way to work together. That is, if they can keep their hands off each other long enough.

Unleashed by S.E. Whitlock. Releases in July 2027 from Bramble. This sounds adorable! And how cute is the dragon on the cover? Cover rating: A

  1. All new titles to me this week that I’ll be adding to my TBR. I especially like the sound of a Korean gothic with dual timelines. Unleashed wins for me cover wise this week somehow the patterned background and striped dragon work beautifully together.

  2. Unleashed is my favorite cover of the three. And it sounds like it could be fun, though it’s also possible it might not work for me. But if you review it, maybe I’ll have a better idea. 🙂
