What’s On My Plate – October 2026

October is a doozy of a month for new releases, and of course I have so many I want to read. And this is only a small sample of all the October releases, so you can see why it’s so tough for readers these days, lol. Luckily, a bunch of these are novellas, so I’ll be able to squeeze more reading in. Here are the October releases I’d love to read:

Off the Reservation by Stephen Graham Jones. I’m super excited for this, and I’ll be reading it soon! This is being marketed as the sequel to The Only Good Indians, but I’ve heard the author say it’s more of a companion story and can be read as a standalone.

The Porcelain Sisters by Daryl Gregory. It’s been way too long since Gregory’s last book, so I can’t wait to read this:-)

Night of the Mallrats by Nicolina Torres. This sounds like a fun blast from the past! Time travel and 1990s culture, with a murder mystery/missing person case mixed in. Can’t wait!

A Waltz of Sinister Import by Stephanie Burgis. I’ve already read this and my review will be up later in the week. This is the conclusion to Burgis’s fun series.

It Looks Like You in the Dark by Mathilda Zeller. This combines indigenous horror and folklore and takes place in Alaska. I think it sounds really good!

House Haunters by K.C. Jones. This book has a dog sidekick and I’m mostly concerned that nothing happens to the dog! Otherwise it sounds like a lot of fun.

The Killing of a Chestnut Tree by Oliver K. Langmead. I love Langmead’s books, and this is the start of a novella series that I’m very excited for.

The Thrice-Bound Fool by Christopher Buehlman. This is the sequel to The Blacktongue Thief, which I loved!

Dive Bar at the End of the Road by Kelley Armstrong. I feel like this will be the perfect spooky season book!

Find Me Where It Ends by Cassandra Khaw. I’m just about finished with this and wow. I adore Khaw’s writing, and the story is super unique. Look for my review next week!

The Chain House by J.H. Markert. This will be my first book by the author, and I’m glad I’m finally checking out one of his books.

Happy Hour by Gemma Amor. I think this will be my first book from the author, and I’m excited to try it. This is part of Shortwave’s “Killer VHS” series, and if I like this I may check out the other books!

Winterset Hollow by Jonathan Edward Durham. This is a fantasy/horror that involves a trope I love, when settings in your favorite books become real. There’s also animals? Which is another draw for me. Can’t wait!

The Scarlet Ball by Nghi Vo. I do love this author’s writing, and her latest sounds really good. I’ve already read some very positive reviews!

The Memory of Borrowed Books by Meg Anderson. Any book with a story about magical books and libraries is going on my TBR, so I’m excited to read this.

Entities to Lovers by Mallory Marlowe. This cozy supernatural story involves ghost tours and a matchmaking ghost!

Portrait of a Haunting by Madison Tyler Nelson. This is a horror/thriller about a woman who sees ghosts, with a murder mystery element as well. On paper it sounds like everything I love!

Savage Lake by Nick Medina. This is yet another indigenous horror story, and I’m hoping I can finally squeeze in a book by Nick Medina, who’s been on my TBR for a while now.

Reap & Sow by Charlotte B. Plumb. I don’t read a lot of romantasy these days, but this one stood out. Hopefully it will live up to this beautiful cover!

What Feeds Below by Tatiana Schlote-Bonne. This sounds like a mix of genres: horror, fantasy and sci-fi, so I’m curious to see how the author incorporates all those elements.

When the Night Comes Knocking by Katherine Daniel. Appalachian horror and monsters? Yes, I definitely need this and hope to read it soon.

The Fist of Memory by Wole Talabi. Finally, a science fiction book! Although I may push this one to November so I can feature it during Sci Fi Month:-)

The Turning of Sally-Mae by Nuzo Onoh. A “historical African Wild West horror story of supernatural vengeance and terrifying occultic magic.” OMG that description alone makes me excited to read this!

Are you planning on reading any of these? Let me know your most anticipated book for October!
