Another month gone, another book haul! This month’s haul is smaller than last month’s, thankfully. And while I didn’t avoid Netgalley altogether, I was very restrained. It’s worth mentioning that I’ve already read three of these as well. Here are the books I received from publishers this month, and titles are linked to either my review or Goodreads:
Books in the mail for review:
Something of a Calling by Zoje Stage. I am a big fan of the author, so I’m excited to start her newest, which comes out in a couple of weeks. Blackstone Publishing kindly sent a finished copy, and I was thrilled to receive this beautiful book with sprayed edges (see photo below of the edges!)
Our Cut of Salt by Deena Helm. Big thanks to Tor Nightfire for this highly anticipated horror debut! This is a generational story involving a haunted house and it takes place in Palestine. It sounds fantastic!
This Movie Doesn’t End the Way We Want by Hailey Piper. I’m so excited to have a copy of Piper’s upcoming horror story, courtesy of the fine folks at Titan Books:-) I do love the “cursed movie” trope, so this should be fun!
The Sisters of Crimson House by Melissa Anderson Sweazy. The publisher is comping this book to Practical Magic, so of course I’m very curious. It releases in September so I hope to read it soon:-) Big thanks to Sourcebooks Landmark for the review copy.
Night of the Mallrats by Nicolina Torres. I was recently offered this for review, and I literally could not turn it down, lol. I mean look at that cover! Thank you Harper Perennial for the review copy:-)
A Time of Witches by Madeline Martin. Martin has written a lot of books, but this will be my first. Oooh a dual timeline story about witches, it’s perfect for spooky season! Big thanks to publicist Angela Melamud for this gorgeous finished copy.
The Calamities by Chuck Wendig. I just reviewed this and wow it was crazy! (in a good way). Big thanks to Del Rey for this gorgeous finished copy. I don’t have a photo, but there are decorative endpapers as well as a cool naked cover.
The Tinder Box by M.R. Carey. I received this about a month after the release date, so I haven’t been able to fit it in yet, but I will soon! Thank you to Orbit!
Worry Box by Chris Panatier. Angry Robot kindly sent me a finished paperback. I adored this book! Which isn’t surprising because Chris is THE MAN.
The Irresistible Urge to Fall For Your Enemy by Brigitte Knightley. I was so excited when Berkley offered me a paperback copy of this book, it’s beautiful. Sorry, my photo sucks, but below is a glimpse of the beautiful sprayed edges!

Digital books for review:
Just a few new NetGalley books this month! First, I’m very happy to have a copy of The House of Cursed Daughters by C.J. Cooke. It sounds fabulous!
Hive Mind by Allison Gunn. “Gillian Flynn meets Marcus Kliewer,” that’s really all I need to hear. The cover is giving me some anxiety though…
And last but not least, I can’t wait to read Liz Kerin’s next book, How to Disappear Completely. This is science fiction/horror, a sub genre I can’t get enough of!

I really want to give Our Cut of Salt a try — horror isn’t a main genre for me, but something about this one is really pinging my interest.
The sprayed edges on those books are so lovely! I don’t normally go for it deliberately, but sometimes they’re just so beautiful.
I don’t usually buy sprayed edge books unless it’s a book or author I really love:-)
What an incredible haul!! Those edges are so pretty and a finished copy with an interesting naked hardcover and pretty endpages is always a treat. I need to double check that The Sisters Of Crimson House is on my TBR but I believe it is. I’m very excited for Our Cut Of Salt and can’t wait to hear what you think of This Movie Doesn’t End The Way We Want. I also need to look up Hive Mind, the comparison has me curious and I feel like I’ve had another title by the author recommended to me once, although I could be wrong. I hope you have a wonderful time reading all of these and have a lovely September.

A nice load of books there. Pretty sprayed edges! I try to avoid Netgalley, but then I get ebooks sent by Publishers that are linked to Netgalley so my shelf still seems to grow!

The special editions are gorgeous. I have enjoyed seeing all the different styles that artists come up with for painted edges.

A lot of these look really good! I like the idea of Hive Mind but not so much the cover.
