July was a very mixed month and included two five star books, two DNFs, and a few three-star books as well. Favorite books of the month? Without a doubt The Exquisite Torment of Loving Your Enemy and The Farewitch of Foxe Holler (both equally good in different ways). July was also a very “Summer of Horror Light” month, with only one horror book read. I feel like I’m failing my own challenge! Here are the books I reviewed this month, from favorite to least favorite:

Looks like a great reading month, even without a ton of horror! I hadn’t even realized that this is the end of July somehow… the summer is flying by too quickly!
It really is! It’s so hard to squeeze everything in…
Some good looking books here. Still a solid month but I feel like you’ve not had this many “lower” ratings in a while but I could be wrong. I still need to review Hopeless Necromantic. I did expect so much more from it though.
I am usually pretty generous when it comes to ratings (if I enjoy a book it’s usually at least 4 stars). But I did struggle this month with some of my books.
Sometimes you just have to DNF. Life is too short and there are too many books, lol.
Exactly! I’m going to start DNFing more.
Lots of interesting picks always.
Thanks Anne.
Quite the mix of a month, really! This reminded me that I’m really curious about The Inn at the Foot of Mount Vengeance.
It really was a mixed month! I’m hoping August ends up more towards the higher end of ratings.
I’m glad you had at least 2 5 star reads!
Me too, some months I don’t have any!
Aw, no! Startup Hell & Hopeless Necromantic are both on my TBR. I thought they sounded so fun! 🙁
You might enjoy them, I hope so!
Ahhh Hopeless Necromantic has such a great cover! That sucks it was a DNF (but good for you for not forcing yourself to read it!!) I hope your August is filled with great reads!
It does have a great cover, right? I just couldn’t get into it, unfortunately.
2 DNFs?? And you don’t usually DNF things at all, do you? Well… I hope the summer of horror picks up soon (and not just because you need to dust and alphabetize all your books;))
I don’t usually DNF, and when I do I don’t usually talk about it. And oh yeah, those books, lol. I am working on “S” now and it might be my biggest letter so far…
I can’t wait to read The Exquisite Torment to Love Your Enemy!
I wish I could read it again!
You had a very productive month. Me, less so! But, I feel like I can get back on track (although September is looking particularly busy for some reason).
Two DNFs, tbh, I nearly DNF’d two books – I’m glad I didn’t do so now, but they were slowing me down so much – or it was maybe a mood thing. It worked out good in the long run though.
Happy reading this August.
Lynn 😀
Thanks Lynn. And I agree, September and October are both scary review months. I have such a tough tie saying “no” and now I’m going to pay the price!
Sorry to hear that it was such a mixed reading month for you, I’m thrilled you had those two five stars in the mix though. Definitely ones I’ll have to try and get to soon. Two DNFs is unusual for you though and such a shame. I haven’t gotten to as much horror as I’d have liked this year either. Hopefully we’ll both get to a few more this month.
A mixed month but at least you had two 5 star reads. 🙂 My 2 favorites for the month were Japanese Gothic by Kylie Lee Baker and Empire of Silence, the first book in Christopher Ruocchio’s amazing science fiction series, The Sun Eater.
DNFing is good though! Life is too short if we aren’t enjoying it!
I’m behind on commenting again, so sorry to get here a little late. You did have a few horror books though, even if less than you would have wanted for your summer horror challenge. I think my favorite book last month was Runaway Rockstar by Kylie Scott! Thanks for visiting my monthly wrap up earlier!
