Top Ten Tuesday – Books With Deer on the Cover

I’m linking up with Top Ten Tuesday, which was created by The Broke and the Bookish and is now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Check out upcoming Top Ten themes on Jana’s blog.

Today is a “Freebie,” and my mind usually goes to types of book covers for freebie prompts. I love seeing different animals on book covers, and lately I’ve noticed quite a few books with deer on the cover. So here are ten I’ve found, some old and some new. Oddly enough, I haven’t read any of these except for Grimm Curiosities, but I do have a NetGalley copy of Something of a Calling.

What deer covers did I leave off?

  1. Ha, I think you win the prize for the most unique topic this week! Had no idea there were so many deer covers! Can’t say I’ve read any, although I do have a copy of Grimm Curiosities that I need to get to.

  2. I love this. Is the deer mounting a race to dethrone book snake? You know, I didn’t even notice the deer on the cover of The Devil Knows Her Name. Great choice of topic! As a complete cover reader, I never tire of seeing new covers.

  3. Nice job creating a large selection of deer covers. Another that immediately jumped to mind is Winter of the Gods by Jordanna Max Brodsky from 2017. It’s book 2 in a series I’ve not read, but I love the cover and it’s stuck with me.

Oh good call, Winter of the Gods would be a great one to add. I just didn’t go back in time far enough to remember it:-)

  4. You definitely found a lot of books with deer on the covers. I cant wait to hear what you think of Something Of A Calling. Im pretty sure The Winter Folk is one I was intrigued by too although the cover definitely makes me shudder.

  5. Huh, you’re right, deer do get used more than I’d have guessed! I really need to get back to There Is No Antimimetics Division — I started it from a library copy, but it was the old version and the republished version has significant edits, so I figured it best to grab a new one. I was very intrigued by the ideas though.

I know I forgot some important deer books, lol. I will have to edit this post! And I’m very curious about the Antimimetics Division book, I hope you read it:-)

OMG I can’t believe I forgot about The Only Good Indians! I may go back and add it, good call.

  6. It’s odd, publishing seems to go through yearly trends of featuring certain animals on covers. Couple of years ago I noticed it’s snakes, then after that rabbits. Lately I’ve been noticing deer, usually featuring their heads and antlered!
