Future Fiction #368 – Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

It’s time to share some new horror cover reveals! And these three are all SUPER exciting, at least to me:-) Take a look:

The heir to one of the world’s most influential families reckons with the demonic secret to their power, in this contemporary dark fantasy that melds occult magic with shocking family drama from the New York Times bestselling author of The Book of Accidents.

Mourning Mayne knows he’ll one day bear the duty of managing his family’s vast empire of wealth and power. But the feckless Mourning has always struggled to accept this legacy, which is one of cruelty, domination, and exploitation… and something even darker.

Because the Maynes are no ordinary family: Hidden in our world are the fiends—half-human, half-demon, and possessed of dark magic born from buying human souls—and the Maynes are one of the oldest and most influential fiendish families.

But when Mourning’s estranged father, the formidable and terrifying Hadrian Mayne, demands that he return to the fold, Mourning has to make a decision whether to accept his legacy and embrace his role in the family, or to forge his own destiny, and with it, change the course of the world.

Because along the way home, he will meet Key, a black-market seller of human souls, and Quinn, an artist who may hold the dark truth behind the fate of the fiends. Alone, they have all struggled with the darkness of their fiendish nature… but together, they might find a path out of the shadows.

The Calamities by Chuck Wendig. Releases in August 2026 from Del Rey Books. I want to mention something I’ve noticed happening a lot lately, and that is the Goodreads synopsis is completely different from the Amazon synopsis. I mean completely. So in this case, I’m going with Amazon, since I like it better. Now that that’s out of the way (!), can we all gaze in awe at this extremely dark cover, and it’s a new Chuck Wendig, so there’s not much more to say except, I need this now!

From the USA Today bestselling author of Diavola comes a darkly funny, blood-soaked horror novel about the terrifying seduction of unlimited power.

After years of caring for her dying mother, Martha Shaw feels empty, exhausted, and far older than her twenty-six years. So when her brother invites her to a weekend getaway at the opulent, two-hundred-acre country estate where his friend works, Martha reluctantly agrees. After all, what’s the harm? The owners and all their staff will be gone. Security cameras will be off. The house will be theirs. For the first time in years, Martha might actually have fun.

And it is fun, taking advantage of the historic mega-mansion and its vast grounds. Martha begins to feel human again. But when night falls, the rightful master of Newbourne Park returns—and she’s not alone. Suddenly, being caught trespassing is the least of their worries, because what steps out into the moonlight is something vicious. And hungry.

What began as a lark becomes a bloody battle for survival, where greed and morality collide—and a woman must choose to bow, break, or bite back.

Newbourne Park by Jennifer Thorne. Releases in September 2026 from G.P. Putnam’s Sons. I am over the moon excited for Thorne’s upcoming book (Diavola was in my Top Five reads of 2024), and this sounds amazing!

From Bram Stoker Award finalist KC Jones comes House Haunters, a fast-paced thrill ride perfect for fans of How to Sell a Haunted House and Play Nice, in which a skeptical reality TV show producer and a misanthropic ghosthunter must team up to survive a shoot from hell.

Grace Wonderly needs a hit show. Desperately.

If the aspiring director-turned-reality television producer doesn’t find the next big thing, she may have to abandon her dream job.

Her long-time friend might have just the solution: a misanthropic ghost hunter named Frank Pendleton (and his trusty corgi sidekick, Fish Stick). But Frank is no ordinary ghost hunter. He claims that he can’t feel fear, which makes him more sensitive to paranormal phenomena. Skeptical but intrigued, Grace gathers a film crew to shoot a proof-of-concept for her studio.

What should be a straightforward shoot quickly spirals into a nightmare and Grace must confront some hard truths: ghosts are real; and though callous and distant, Frank is their only hope of getting out alive.

House Haunters by K.C. Jones. Releases in October 2026 from Tor Nightfire. First, can we all appreciate the delightfully punny title?? Also, the “corgi sidekick” named Fish Stick(!!). I need this so bad. And I really enjoyed the last Jones book I read, Black Tide. Although I do need to mention, if Fish Stick dies, this will be the last book of his I read, since the dog in Black Tide died at the end:-(

  1. I had a feeling you would feature The Calamities this week! And I’m obsessed with the cover. Definitely wanna read it.

I saw the corgi on House Haunters and already was thinking the dog better not die, especially not a corgi!

  2. I hope you enjoy all of these. I have to say that seeing a dog on the title of a horror novels makes me nervous, especially with the past experience that you’ve described with the authors books. Hopefully it doesn’t repeat itself here. I cant wait to hear what you think of the Jennifer Thorne book.

  3. Veros @ Dark Shelf of Wonders

The Calamities sounds interesting if outside of my comfort zone but colour me intrigued!

  4. I love the sound of Northbourne Park – except for the ‘darkly funny’ bit. I’ve read books with that description that were plain twisted… I hope you enjoy these picks, Tammy:).

  5. A dog name Fish Stick? Sign me up. And I completely agree. I DNF’ed Black Tide because of the dog before the death actually occurred and I can’t take another one. Surely the author wouldn’t kill two in a row right? That would seem like intentional dog abuse. The other two are new to me as well and are now on my wish list. Thanks!
