Most Anticipated Books of 2025 – Second Quarter

It’s time again to look at my most anticipated books of the quarter, in this case books releasing in April, May and June. There are some excellent choices, and I’ve chosen my top five books for each month. Let me know if you have any of these on your TBR as well!

April 2025 Most Anticipated:

Since we’re already midway through April, I’m not surprised that I’ve already read three out of five of these books. And I fully intend to read the other two soon.

The Staircase in the Woods by Chuck Wendig. Probably my most anticipated book of the month, Chuck never fails to entertain. And I’ve heard nothing but good things about this!

When the Wolf Comes Home by Nat Cassidy. I absolutely loved this book. Scary, emotional, and thrilling, it’s everything I want in a horror story.

Senseless by Ronald Malfi. Malfi is one of my favorite underrated horror writers, and Senseless is another excellent book. Police procedural, ghost story and an edge-of-your-seat mystery, I devoured this book.

A Drop of Corruption by Robert Jackson Bennett. Everyone loves this book, and most reviewers are saying it’s even better than the first book.

When We Were Real by Daryl Gregory. I really had fun with this book! Gregory’s weird, wacky road trip story revolves around a world where humans have discovered they’re actually living in a simulation.

May 2025 Most Anticipated:

May is a true mix of genres, something for every mood!

Starting with my most anticipated of the month, Overgrowth by Seanan McGuire. I’ve already heard good things about this sci-fi horror story.

A Letter From the Lonesome Shore by Sylvie Cathrall is book two in her unusual, watery fantasy. I loved the first book and I’m curious to see where the story goes next.

Behooved by M. Stevenson is my romantasy pick for May, and I think it sounds delightful!

I don’t read a lot of epic fantasy, but I’m convinced that Anji Kills A King by Evan Leikam is going to be fantastic.

We Live Here Now by Sarah Pinborough. I haven’t read a Pinborough book in years, so I’m excited to read her newest.

June 2025 Most Anticipated:

The Medusa Protocol by Rob Hart is my most anticipated book of the month, his follow-up to the brilliant Assassins Anonymous, and I cannot WAIT.

Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V.E. Schwab. I have high hopes for Schwab’s upcoming book, and I love that it has three different timelines.

The Palace of Illusions by Rowenna Miller. This is a historical fantasy that takes place in 1900s Paris and sounds like fun.

The Afterlife Project by Tim Weed. This climate fiction sci-fi story is getting lots of good reviews already, and it sounds fantastic.

A Far Better Thing by H.G. Parry. And here’s another historical fiction story set in France! I have yet to check out Parry’s books, so I’m glad I have a copy of his newest.

First Quarter 2025 Results:

I did pretty well for the first quarter, and read 12 out of 15 books! My favorite books of the quarter were Greenteeth and Future’s Edge.

Are you looking forward to any of these books?

  1. Twelve out of fifteen for the first quarter is fantastic! Of this quarter’s books I’m most curious about The Staircase in the Woods, though there are others that also catch my eye.

  2. THE PALACE OF ILLUSIONS and A FAR BETTER THING are the two in this list I’m most interested in! Speaking of, this reminds me that I need to request the latter book on NG. I’ve read Parry’s two last books via Orbit, but looks like this new one is with Tor, so fingers crossed they like me this time around.

I am so used to Parry being an Orbit author, I keep forgetting they switched to Tor for this book!

Thanks! I’m hoping this quarter is a good one too, as far as crossing off my most anticipated books:-)

  3. That’s a great first quarter result, and it looks like lots of interesting new books ahead too. I really want to read an H. G. Parry, I’m sure I have one of the older ones already. 😀

I can’t believe I haven’t read Parry yet, I’m always hearing good things about their books.

  4. I hope you enjoy your other two April ones, it sounds like the choices have been hits so far. I definitely can’t wait for Lonesome Shore after book one. I’m also very intrigued by the Pinborough one, although I’ve only tried one book by her before. I loved Bury Our Bones and really hope you do too. And it’ll be interesting to see how you find your first Parry book.

You did fantastically over the first quarter too, yay.

Wow! 12 out of 15 is great. I’ve seen mixed reviews of Listen to Your Sister and now I’m hesitant to pick it up. I’m interested in the new Schwab book but I’m seeing comparisons to Addie Larue and I’m in the minority because that book didn’t work for me. Hope the next quarter is just as great for you.
