Reading “Firsts” for 2025

This is a quick, fun tag created by girlxoxo, and March is the perfect time to look back at the first few months of the year and see what your reading “firsts” are. I hope you’ll join in too!

First book read in 2025:

According to Goodreads, I finished Wake Up and Open Your Eyes by Clay McLeod Chapman on January 1st. I didn’t love this book, but I did appreciate Chapman’s vision.

First review of 2025:

I love starting the year with a Grady Hendrix book, and Witchcraft for Wayward Girls was really good.

First debut read in 2025:

Greenteeth by Molly O’Neill is the only debut I’ve read so far, so I had to use it for this category. Although technically this was my first five-star book of the year. It’s amazing, don’t miss it!

First “new to me” author of 2025:

I’m so glad I read All the Water in the World and discovered Eiren Caffall. This is an emotional and uplifting end of the world story with great characters.

First book of 2025 that slayed me:

I think the definition of “slayed” is up for interpretation, lol. Usually I use this as an extremely emotional book that made me cry. Since I haven’t really found a “crying” book yet this year, I’m choosing Victorian Psycho by Virginia Feito, which surprised me in the best way possible:-)

First book of 2024 that I wish I could get back the time I spent reading it:

The Last One by Rachel Howzell Hall was such a disappointment and ended up being a DNF. I really loved her last book and I didn’t expect such a ridiculous plot and bad dialog.

First 5 star book of 2024:

Technically my second five-star book but who cares because it was so good, Future’s Edge is another winner from Gareth L. Powell.

Let me know if you do this tag too!

  1. Lauren Always Me

I might have to do this tag. Also, I just finished Victorian Psycho on audiobook and I would say that it certainly loved up to the title for me.

  2. Fun tag I’ve gotten off to a slow start with my reading this year but I may try this out sometime during April if I feel back on track.

It looks like you’ve read some wonderful books. Yay for the two five star mentions I’m interested in so many of these and love the variety included.
