Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D
Lots of cover reveals last week, and here are the three that caught my eye:
Brimming with dark humor, violence, and mystery, The Autumn Springs Retirement Home Massacre is a blood-soaked slasher sure to keep readers cringing, laughing, and guessing until the very last page.
Rose DuBois is not your average final girl.
Rose is in her late 70s, living out her golden years at the Autumn Springs Retirement Home.
When one of her friends dies alone in her apartment, Rose isn’t too concerned. Accidents happen, especially at this age!
Then another resident drops dead. And another. With bodies stacking up, Rose can’t help but wonder: are these accidents? Old age? Or something far more sinister?
Together with her best friend Miller, Rose begins to investigate. The further she digs, the more convinced she becomes: there’s a killer on the loose at Autumn Springs, and if she isn’t careful, Rose may be their next victim.
The Autumn Springs Retirement Home Massacre by Philip Fracassi. Releases in September 2025 from Tor Nightfire. A serial killer story set in a retirement home? Hey, why not? In Fracassi’s hands, I’m sure this is going to be amazing.
In this atmospheric and bewitching novel, Louisa Morgan reimagines the story of Morgan Le Fay, one of the most enigmatic and powerful women in Arthurian legend.
To the other priestesses of the Nine, a powerful council at the Lady’s Temple, Morgana is haughty and arrogant as she performs feats of magic no human should be capable of. Rumors start that she must be a fearsome fae.
To King Arthur, Morgana is a trusted and devoted advisor, but his court is wary of her and her prodigious talent at divination. But his wife sees Morgana as a rival and a malevolent witch.
To Braithe, Morgana’s faithful acolyte, she is simply the most powerful priestess Camelot has seen.
Morgana doesn’t know why she’s so different from everyone else, and she doesn’t much care. But when she aids Arthur to ascend the throne before his time, she sets off a series of events that will change everything Morgana believes about her power.
The Faerie Morgana by Louisa Morgan. Releases in September 2025 from Redhook. I was so excited to see this book announced! I adore everything Louisa Morgan writes, and although this sounds a little out of my comfort zone, and very different from her usual books, I will of course be reading it:-)
A family on a remote island. A mysterious woman washed ashore. A rising storm on the horizon.
Dominic Salt and his three children are caretakers of Shearwater, a tiny island not far from Antarctica. Home to the world’s largest seed bank, Shearwater was once full of researchers. But with sea levels rising, the Salts are now its final inhabitants, packing up the seeds before they are transported to safer ground. Despite the wild beauty of life here, isolation has taken its toll on the Salts. Raff, eighteen and suffering his first heartbreak, can only find relief at his punching bag; Fen, seventeen, has started spending her nights on the beach among the seals; nine-year-old Orly, obsessed with botany, fears the loss of his beloved natural world; and Dominic can’t stop turning back toward the past, and the loss that drove the family to Shearwater in the first place.
Then, during the worst storm the island has ever seen, a woman washes up on shore. As the Salts nurse the woman, Rowan, back to life, their suspicion gives way to affection, and they finally begin to feel like a family again. Rowan, long accustomed to protecting her heart, begins to fall for the Salts, too. But Rowan isn’t telling the whole truth about why she set out for Shearwater. And when she discovers the sabotaged radios and a freshly dug grave, she realizes Dominic is keeping his own dark secrets. As the storms on Shearwater gather force, the characters must decide if they can trust each other enough to protect the precious seeds in their care before it’s too late—and if they can finally put the tragedies of the past behind them to create something new, together.
Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy. Releases in March 2025 from Flatiron Books. After just reading and loving another post apocalyptic book, All the Water in the World, I’m drawn to this one because of that cover, but also the story sounds really good. This leans more towards mystery and literary fiction and although I don’t have time in my review schedule to request it, I’m going to buy a copy for sure. McConaghy wrote a book called Migrations that got really good reviews (I have a copy of that too!), which makes me want to read this even more.
Wild Dark Shore sounds really different, and the cover is stunning!
I know, that cover grabbed my attention, and the story sounds good too:-)
The Faerie Morgana sounds like my kinda read! In 2023 (I think) I read another Morgana retelling so I’m curious to see how this one will be. Adding to list!
That would be an interesting comparison. I’m just excited Louisa Morgan finally has a new book out:-)
Great selection!
Thanks Shelleyrae!
I just added all three of these to my tbr right now. Thanks for sharing!
They all sound great, right?
A 70-year-old final girl? I NEED this in my life badly.
Right?? I’m so excited!
Ooh, Wild Dark Shore sounds great! Love the description of the setting. The Faerie Morgana is tempting me too. Great picks!
I’m so excited for Wild Dark Shore:-)
The Fairie Morgana sounds very interesting!
I agree, it’s bound to be good, based on my experience with her other books.
I’d read Wild Dark Shore and The Faerie Morgana! Autumn Springs sounds like it might be too heavy on the slasher bits for my taste. Thank you for sharing these! You know my TBR needs more books. LOL
Doesn’t everyone’s TBR need more books?
Oh how odd I actually added all of these to my TBR recently too I’m most excited about The Faerie Morgana which definitely sounds like my sort of read (although I do want to try out some of the books in the authors typical style too)
I hope it ends up working out for you.
Sounds like we are on the same wave length:-) I think you would love Louisa Morgan’s books, they are very much historical/witchy/women power, and I love her writing.
So excited about another Louisa Morgan book!
Me too, it’s been so long since her last book!
Interesting sounding books, enjoy!
Thanks Stormi!
The mesmerizing covers. The plots. I can’t wait to read these books. Which one are you picking up first?
Probably the first one, I just love the author’s books:-)
All three of them sound interesting but the first one is the most appealing of all!! It sounds sooooooo good!
Agreed! I’m so curious to see how he handles the retirement home/murders:-)
Oh I didn’t know about the Philip Fracassi book! I loved Boys in the Valley so I am going to have to pick this one up. I also have his time travel book to read. I didn’t realize he has such a large back catalog either.
x The Captain
He’s a writing machine, lol! He does have a huge backlog, and two books out this year, crazy.
The cover alone for The Faerie Morgana makes me want to read it! I love books that are based on Arthurian legend.
Me too! The cover definitely says “Arthurian legend.”
These all sound amazing, Tammy – but my favourite has to be the first one. I’m rather attached to books featuring elderly protagonists:)). Thank you for sharing.
I know what you mean, we rarely get to see protagonists over 60, and I always enjoy them:-)
Wild Dark Shore does sound very good, and I like that cover too, it’s quite mysterious
I love the cover too! I might not request it for review, but I will buy a copy.
The Faerie Morgana reminds me how much I loved reading The Mists of Avalon. I’d be up for another Arthurian tale.
I adored The Mists of Avalon too, although it’s been years since I read it. Pretty sure I was a teenager at the time:-)
I NEED The Autumn Springs Retirement Home Massacre immediately! And I also really want to read Wild Dark Shore! The middle one is new to me, and perhaps a wee bit more fantastical than my usual tastes, but if you end up loving it, I’ll probably give it a go!
Me too! I need it NOW.
YES, Migrations was so so good. I want to keep reading this author
A new Louisa Morgan – I’m so happy – I can’t wait.
