Future Fiction #291 – Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

Today’s picks are for the horror crowd. Here are three upcoming Spring 2025 books:

From Bram Stoker Award finalist KC Jones comes White Line Fever, a haunting road trip-gone-wrong, where four friends must drive for their lives to escape The Devil’s Driveway.

At a passing glance, County Road 951 is an entirely unremarkable stretch of blacktop, a two-lane scar across the Cascade foothills of Central Oregon.

But the road is known by another name, coined by those who’ve had to clean up after all those scenic detours went horribly The Devil’s Driveway.

When Livia and her long-time friends take the Driveway as a shortcut to a much-needed weekend getaway, what begins as a morning joyride quickly becomes anything but. Soon, they’re driving for their lives, pursued by a horror beyond anything any of them has ever imagined.

The Devil’s Driveway might only be 15 miles long, but it will take the four women to the very limits of their friendships and their sanity.

White Line Fever by KC Jones. Releases in March 2025 from Tor Nightfire. I really enjoyed Jones’s Black Tide a few years ago, so it’s exciting to see he has a new book coming out next year. I think I need more road trip horror in my life, and this sounds like fun.

“I’m in your blood, and you are in mine…”

The Netherlands, 1887. Lucy’s twin sister Sarah is unwell. She refuses to eat, mumbles nonsensically, and is increasingly obsessed with a centuries-old corpse recently discovered on her husband’s grand estate. The doctor has diagnosed her with temporary insanity caused by a fever of the brain. To protect her twin from a terrible fate in a lunatic asylum, Lucy must unravel the mystery surrounding her sister’s condition, but it’s clear her twin is hiding something. Then again, Lucy is harboring secrets of her own, too.

Then, the worst happens. Sarah’s behavior takes a turn for the strange. She becomes angry… and hungry.

Lucy soon comes to suspect that something is trying to possess her beloved sister. Or is it madness? As Sarah changes before her very eyes, Lucy must reckon with the dark, monstrous truth, or risk losing her forever.

Blood On Her Tongue by Johanna Van Veen. Releases in March 2025 from Poisoned Pen Press. This cover is equal parts gorgeous and creepy, and the story sounds fantastic!

Stranger Things meets The Walking Dead in this chilling novel based on the terrifying urban legend about a video game created by the government for psychological warfare.

October, 1982. Forced to move to the quiet seaside town of Tasker Bay by her mother, the only thing on high schooler Andi’s mind is saving up enough money to return to her old stomping grounds in Silicon Valley. Her self-taught skills with all things electronic make her a perfect fit for a job at the dingy local arcade where she can tune out from life and bankroll her eventual escape.

Pining over the distant and aloof Andi is Ro, the son of Tasker Bay’s sheriff, who begins spending more time at the arcade. Despite promising herself she wouldn’t get attached to anyone in town, Andi finds herself opening up to the thoughtful, like-minded Ro.

When Polybius—a new bleeding-edge game of unknown origin arrives—the shop is suddenly overwhelmed with players fighting for time on the machine. Seemingly overnight, a virus-like epidemic grips Tasker Bay while a violent coastal storm rolls in, isolating it from the outside world. People begin experiencing fits of anger, paranoia, and hallucinations—no one can be trusted. After a grisly act of violence goes unsolved, the town descends into chaos. Is the arrival of this mysterious game and the disorder in Tasker Bay a coincidence? Convinced the dire situation is somehow linked to Polybius, Andi and Ro desperately search for clues that might stop the spread before they, too, begin experiencing side effects…

Polybius by Collin Armstrong. Releases in April 2025 from Gallery Books. An evil video game? I know everything is compared to Stranger Things these days, but this could actually have the potential of being a good comparison. I’m so curious about this book!

  1. Least favourite cover has to be Polybius – but that’s the premise which caught my eye:)). I hope you enjoy these offerings, Tammy!

I hated the dog parts in Black Tide, otherwise I would have rated it higher. Hopefully White Line won’t do the same thing.

  2. Blood On Her Tongue sounds intriguing. Its kind of giving me Lucy from Dracula vibes. Plus the covers wonderful. I also love the pink sky in the first book. I hope you enjoy all of these.

  3. An evil video game seems oddly familiar, and I’ve not even seen Stranger Things. But seeming familiar doesn’t mean it can’t be a great story. 🙂
