Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D
You know it’s summer when my hubby and I start buying new trees and plants for our garden, lol. I hope to have some garden photos for you next week, but first we need to clean things up, remove pine needles and pine cones and fill in the holes the dog has dug:-) Our elevation here is 6,000 feet so we are limited as to what will grow, but there are still quite a few flowering trees and plants that do well up here. I had a decent week, and I hope everyone has a great weekend! Here’s a recent photo of my very handsome boy Badger:
Upcoming reads & reviews:
Lots of good books this past week! A House Like an Accordion was a delightful surprise, such a weird but wonderful story. And Ronald Malfi never disappoints, I really loved Small Town Horror as well. I will be posting reviews of both books this week, and I may try to squeeze in Craft: Stories I Wrote for the Devil late in the week if I have time. After that, I’m jumping into The Stardust Grail.
Other posts this week:
On Tuesday, I’m bringing back Summer of Horror, a personal event/challenge I started last year. I know October is the traditional month for reading spooky stories, but summertime is pretty great as well. Wednesday I have some awesome new covers to share on Future Fiction; and Saturday I’ll be sharing my latest book haul.
In case you missed:
My posts from last week:
What’s On My Plate – June 2024
May 2024 Reading & Wyrd & Wonder Wrap-Up
The Honey Witch by Sydney J. Shields – Review 2.5/5 stars
Good Bad Girl by Alice Feeney – Review 4.5/5 stars
Huckleberries grow quite very at that elevation, though I’m not sure how they do down south. I’m only at about 4000′, but most of my apple trees grow alright (if sluggishly). Or you could try non-food producing plants, which… I don’t understand why you would
We can grow apple, plum cherry and apricot up here, they are very hardy. Not sure when we’ll get fruit though, our trees are still pretty small:-)
Looking forward to your comments on the new Malfi book: I was certain that he would deliver, again, but I wanted to see some reviews first. And if you loved it, I’m sure it will meet my tastes as well…
Oh, and Badger is indeed a handsome guy! 🙂

Small Town Horror was really good. Perhaps not my favorite of Malfi’s books, but certainly worth reading!
Badger is very handsome, and looks very sweet too! I’ve never seen that type of blackbird before, that is such a neat picture! I must dedicate time this week to reading all your reviews I’m behind on. Hope you have a good week!

Thanks Lisa! I hope your week goes well too:-)
Looking forward to your thoughts on Ronald Malfi’s book. I’ve only read one of his previously, but really enjoyed it. Hello, Badger, handsome boy!

I’m working on my review today:-)
Yay I love the Badger photos. I’m not a horror reader so I tend to pay more attention to the fantasy and scifi books. I really want to read Yume Kitasei starting with Deep Sky.

Deep Sky was soooo good!
It’s definitely the time of year where there’s a new plant in the garden every time I go over to my parents’ house but I’d probably be the same if I had a garden… though I’d probably plant more veg and trees whereas they like their flowers…
I had never heard of The Stardust Grail before but the cover intrigued me… I’ve just looked it up and it sounds brilliant! I hope it lives up to the premise and I look forward to your thoughts!
Her first book was amazing, so I’m very excited to start The Stardust Grail:-)
Badger is indeed very handsome! And I would love to plant but it’s been raining non stop since October here so it’s not very motivating!
I hope the rain ends soon!
Awwww, Badger is so handsome! Wishing you a great week!
Thanks Lisa, you too!
Both pics are great! It rained a lot here so we never got out garden planted and well with Rascal outside thinking everything is a play to I am afraid he will just dig and chew it all up, I am kind of sad. I like fresh veggies. 🙁
Thanks Stormi We are still dealing with Badger digging holes in the garden (and sometimes chewing on plants) so we have to keep an eye on him.
I wonder if rhododendrons might grow for you? Not sure at what elevation they start getting unhappy, but there’s a ton of them in Shenandoah National park.
I will have to check out rhododendrons, I’m not sure!
Badger really is a handsome boy! 🙂 It sounds like you have your work cut out for you to get ready for the summer planting. I am glad you reading was all good this past week! I see titles I would like to read among them! I hope you have a great week!
Thank you Wendy! I hope you have a wonderful week as well:-)
It’s nice to be able to get out into the garden again after all the bad weather. Lovely photos again this week 😀

Thank you! The nice weather and new plants definitely makes it easier to get through the winter:-)
I love both the Badger pic and the Blackbird one!
Looking forward to Summer of Horror and your review of Small Town Horror (did I mention I love my horror? ;D)
I’m so glad you’re a horror fan too:-)
Badger is so handsome. Is he still a puppy or is he fully grown now.
Happy reading this week.
Lynn 😀
He’s actually one year old, so I’m not sure what the cut off is to call him “puppy,” but he’s definitely full grown, although he certain acts like a puppy most of the time:-)
Look at Badger – he is so handsome. Did you create a digger by naming him that Zeke is the first real digger we’ve had in the family which is shocking as we’ve had 6 before him.
We actually named him Badger because he was found in a hole in the desert, the mom was trying to find a safe place to give birth. So sad! I’m glad we ended up with him:-)
I’ve never seen a yellow-headed blackbird in person, very cool. Just read your review of A House Like an Accordion and loved it!
Thanks Todd! I’ve never seen one either, and Moses was surprised when he found one.
