Future Fiction #276 – Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

An exciting sequel, a Dracula retelling and a debut horror story, take a look:

A ragtag band of musicians is all that stands in the way between an army of giant mechas and humanity’s total destruction in the second book of this big-hearted, technicolor space opera trilogy by one of the most exciting voices in science fiction, Alex White.

Ultra-glam enby pop star Ardent Violet thought they could catch a break and enjoy some time with their new boyfriend August Kitko after defeating the giant mechas hellbent on humanity’s destruction. However, Ardent didn’t count on their mecha allies summoning a host of extraterrestrials to defend Earth.

Between the diplomatic entanglements of the newly-arrived alien Coalition, and a mysterious all-powerful AI establishing a base within their solar system, there’s no rest for the wicked.

When August makes a discovery that could turn the tide of the war, Ardent Violet finds themself back in the spotlight for an encore!

Ardent Violet and the Infinite Eye (The Starmetal Symphony #2) by Alex White. Releases in December 2024 from Orbit. I’m so glad the cover and title have finally been revealed! I loved the first book in the series, August Kitko and the Mechas From Space, and I cannot wait for this one:-)

In this epic and seductive gothic fantasy, a vampire escapes the thrall of Dracula and embarks on her own search for self-discovery and true love.

Her name was written in the pages of someone else’s story: Lucy Westenra was one of Dracula’s first victims.

But her death was only the beginning. Lucy rose from the grave a vampire, and has spent her immortal life trying to escape from Dracula’s clutches–and trying to discover who she really is and what she truly wants.

Her undead life takes an unexpected turn when, in twenty-first-century London, she meets another woman who is also yearning to break free from her past. Iris’s family has built a health empire based on a sinister secret, and they’ll do anything to stay in power.

Lucy has long believed she would never love again. But she finds herself compelled by the charming Iris, while Iris is mesmerized by the confident and glamorous Lucy. But their intense connection and blossoming love is threatened by forces from without. Iris’s mother won’t let go of her without a fight, and Lucy’s past still has fangs: Dracula is on the prowl again.

Lucy Westenra has been a tragically murdered teen, a lonesome adventurer, and a fearsome hunter, but happiness always eluded her. Can she find the strength to destroy Dracula once and for all, or will her heart once again be her undoing?

Lucy Undying by Kiersten White. Releases in  September 2024 from Del Rey. I don’t always completely love White’s books, but I always want to read them. And let’s add yet another vampire book to 2024! I love stories that tackle Dracula and all its possibilities, and I can’t wait to read this. Although, is anyone else really creeped out by this cover??

A mindbending and visceral experimental horror about a young man trapped in an infinite Montreal subway station, perfect for readers of Mark Z. Danielewski and Susanna Clarke.

Vicken has a plan: throw himself into the Saint Lawrence River in Montreal and end it all for good, believing it to be the only way out for him after a lifetime of depression and pain. But, stepping off the subway, he finds himself in an endless, looping station.

Determined to find a way out again, he starts to explore the rooms and corridors ahead of him. But no matter how many claustrophobic hallways or vast cathedral-esque rooms he passes through, the exit is nowhere in sight.

The more he explores his strange new prison, the more he becomes convinced that he hasn’t been trapped there accidentally, and amongst the shadows and concrete, he comes to realise that he almost certainly is not alone.

A terrifying psychological nightmare from a powerful new voice in horror.

Coup de Grâce by Sofia Ajram. Releases in October 2024 from Titan Books. This story sounds so intriguing, part horror and part mystery. I believe this is Ajram’s debut novel, and I can’t wait to try it.

  1. I can certainly understand Coup de Grâce’s comparison to Susanna Clarke, though it does sound like a very different story. Could be interesting.

  2. I really like the idea of Lucy Undying – I’m hoping it turns up on the UK Netgalley dashboard in due course:)). Thank you for sharing, Tammy!

  3. I can’t wait for Lucy, Undying either but I’m also with you on the hit and miss thing with the authors books. I adored And I Darken but struggled with Mister Magic. Still fingers crossed that this one will be a hit.
