If you’ve followed my blog for any length of time, you know I LOVE sharing book covers. I’m a visual person, and my memory is best when I have an image to associate something with—like I can’t always remember a book if you tell me the title, but once I see the cover my memory kicks in. My personal rule for this blog is that I never talk about books until the cover has been revealed, but today I’m making an exception. As I look at my Goodreads “Want to read” shelf, I noticed that I’ve added quite a few books by favorite authors with very far out there release dates, which means they don’t have covers yet.
But I can’t wait to talk about them, so I thought I’d share ten of those books today! I’m linking each book to Goodreads and including a blurb if one is available:
1. Grady Hendrix – Witchcraft For Wayward Girls. Berkley Books, Jan. 2025.
There’s no blurb yet for this book, but I have a really good track record with all of Hendrix’s books, and the fact that it seems this will involve witchcraft makes me very excited to check it out!
2. Philip Fracassi – The Third Rule of Time Travel. Orbit UK, Jan. 2025.
Scientist Beth Darlow has discovered the unimaginable. She’s built a machine that allows human consciousness to travel through time—to any point in the traveler’s lifetime—and relive moments of their life. An impossible breakthrough, but it’s not perfect: the traveler has no way to alter or control the outcome. They can only observe.
After Beth’s husband, Colson, the co-creator of the machine, dies in a tragic car accident, Beth is left to raise Isabella—their only daughter—and continue the work they started. Mired in grief and threatened by her unscrupulous funder, Beth pushes herself to the limit to prove the value of her technology.
With each new observation she makes, her own timeline begins to warp. The changes are small at first. Then they become horrifying.
With her reality constantly shifting, Beth is on the clock to reverse altered history. But once the dominoes have been tipped, can they ever be reset?
There isn’t a US edition listed yet on Goodreads, but I suspect the publisher will be Tor Nightfire. In any case, a new Fracassi book is something to get excited about, at least for me!
3. Alice Feeney – Beautiful Ugly. Flatiron Books, Jan. 2025.
No description for this yet either, but I’m going to grab any new Alice Feeney book that comes out:-)
4. S.A. Barnes – Cold Eternity. Tor Nightfire, April 2025.
Cold Eternity, the newest space horror novel from the author of Dead Silence and Ghost Station, blends the dystopian dread of Severance with the catastrophic approach to AI from M3gan.
Halley is on the run from an interplanetary political scandal that has put a huge target on her back. She heads for what seems like the perfect place to lay low: a gigantic space barge housing the cryogenically frozen bodies of Earth’s most wealthy citizens.
The ship and its cryo program are long defunct, but Halley starts to think she sees figures crawling in the hallways, and there’s a constant scraping, slithering, and rattling echoing in the vents.
It’s not long before Halley realizes she may have gotten herself trapped in an even more dangerous situation than the one she was running from….
S.A. Barnes is a genius when it comes to space horror, and her next book sounds like it will fit in perfectly with Ghost Ship and Dead Silence.
5. Nat Cassidy – When the Wolf Comes Home. Tor Nightfire, April 2024.
Nat Cassidy, author of Mary and Nestlings, returns with When the Wolf Comes Home, an unabashed, adrenaline-fueled pop horror thriller reminiscent of Dean Koontz, and Stephen King and inspired by The Lathe of Heaven and Terminator 2.
One night, Jess, a struggling actress, finds a five-year-old runaway hiding in the bushes outside her apartment. After a violent, bloody encounter with the boy’s father, she and the boy find themselves running for their lives.
As they attempt to evade the boy’s increasingly desperate father, horrifying incidents of butchery follow them. At first Jess thinks she understands what they’re up against, but she’s about to learn there’s more to these surreal and grisly events than she could’ve ever imagined.
And that when the wolf finally comes home, none will be spared.
I loved Cassidy’s Nestlings, so I’m very excited to read his next book. Not sure if there are werewolves? But I’m looking forward to reading it no matter what:-)
6. Clay McLeod Chapman – Wake Up and Open Your Eyes. Quirk Books, Jan. 2025.
From Vulture‘s “master of horror” Clay McLeod Chapman, a relentless and emotionally charged social horror novel about a family on the run from a demonic possession epidemic that spreads through media, for fans of The Last of Us and When Evil Lurks
Noah Fairchild has been losing his formerly polite Southern parents to far-right cable news for years, so when his mother leaves him a voicemail warning him that the “Great Reawakening” is here, he assumes it’s related to one of the many conspiracy theories she believes in. But when his own phone calls go unanswered, Noah makes the long drive from Brooklyn to Richmond, Virginia. There, he discovers his childhood home in shambles, a fridge full of spoiled food, and his parents locked in a terrifying trance-like state in front of the TV. Panicked, Noah attempts to snap them out of it and get medical help.
Then Noah’s mother brutally attacks him.
But Noah isn’t the only person to be attacked by a loved one. Families across the country are tearing each other apart-–literally-–as people succumb to a form of possession that gets worse the more time they spend watching particular channels, using certain apps, or visiting certain websites. In Noah’s Richmond-based family, only he and his young nephew Marcus are unaffected. Together, they must race back to the safe haven of Brooklyn–-but can they make it before they fall prey to the violent hordes?
This ambitious, searing novel from “one of horror’s modern masters” holds a mirror to our divided nation, and will shake readers to the core.
The UK cover has already been revealed, but I’m holding out for the US Quirk cover. Clay McLeod Chapman is such a weirdo, lol. His books are STRANGE. But he’s such a good writer, and he’s always entertaining.
7. S.T. Gibson – Savage Blooms. Orbit Books, Oct. 2025.
No blurb yet, but wow this one’s pretty far out so I’m not surprised. I had mixed results with Gibson’s last book, but I don’t give up on writers just because of one book, so color me curious about this one!
8. R.J. Barker – Warlords of Wyrdwood. Orbit Books, Sept. 2024.
‘You fear the forest.. It is not foolish.’ His words rang like bells in the clearing, each face reacting to their din. ‘But the forest does not hate you, it does not hunt you. It simply does not care about you.’
The Forester known as Cahan led the village of Harn in rebellion against the all-powerful, oppressive forces of the Rai. A great victory was won, but to avoid retaliation, he must now lead the people of Harn into the forest.
Cahan never wanted this responsibility, but fate and his gods have conspired against him. Without him, the people will be helpless against the great beasts and poisonous traps of the forest – not to mention worse things that dwell there. A corruption grows in the fungi and decay of the Wyrdwood, a magic unlike any Cahan has ever seen – can he resist its deadly pull, while avoiding his pursuers, and trying to turn his charges into true people of the Wyrdwood?
Warlords of Wyrdwood is book two in a new fantasy trilogy set within the bounds of a forest straight out of darkest folklore – with outlaws fighting an evil empire and warring deities. RJ Barker is the British Fantasy Society Award-winning author of The Bone Ships and Age of Assassins.
I’m surprised this cover hasn’t been revealed yet, since it comes out this Fall. But in any case, I’m looking forward to continuing this series, after loving the first book Gods of the Wyrdwood.
9. Cat Rambo – Rumor Has It. Tor Books, Sept. 2024
The crew of the You Sexy Thing navigates the aftermath of facing down a pirate king and the relationships that they have created with one another in Cat Rambo’s action adventure science fiction Rumor Has It, the third book in the Disco Space Opera.
The crew of the You Sexy Thing have laid a course for Coralind Station, hoping the station’s famed gardens will provide an opportunity to regroup, recoup, and mourn their losses while while finding a way to track down their enemy, pirate king Tubal Last.
All Niko wants to do is pry their insurance money from the bank and see if an old friend might be able to help them find Last. Unfortunately, old friends and enemies aren’t the only unreliable elements awaiting her and the crew at Coralind.
Each will have to face themselves—the good and the bad—in order to come together before they lose everything.
This is book #3 in Rambo’s Disco Space Opera series, and I’ll admit I’m a little behind and still need to read book #2. But I am going to catch up so I’ll be ready for this one!
10. Dan Hanks – The Way Up is Death. Angry Robot, Jan. 2025.
When a mysterious tower appears in the skies over England, thirteen strangers are pulled from their lives to stand before it as a countdown begins. Above the doorway is one word: ASCEND.
As a grieving teacher, a reclusive artist, and a narcissistic celebrity children’s author lead the others in trying to understand why they’ve been chosen and what the tower is, it soon becomes clear the only way out of this for everyone… is up.
And so begins a race to the top, through sinking ships, haunted houses and other waking nightmares, as the group fights to hold onto its humanity, while the twisted horror of why they’re here grows ever more apparent – and death stalks their every move.
I really had fun with Dan Hanks’ last book, so I’m excited to read this. Plus, you gotta love this high concept idea. I’m excited!
I haven’t read anything by Grady Hendrick yet (I’ve been meaning to read Southern Book Club for ages) but the titles instantly intrigued me. I’ve made a note to watch out for the premise of Alice Feeney’s book too. I haven’t read any of hers yet but they always sound fantastic.
I’m also really intrigued by Cold Eternity. And will have to try and read Gods Of The Wyrdwood sometimes as I’ve seen wonderful things about it.
Hopefully some of these books will get covers soon as they’re always exciting to discover.
I can’t wait until they get covers, and then I’ll probably highlight them again:-)
Barker, Barnes, Fracassi and Hendrix will be added to my TBR as soon as a copy is available: these are authors I know will never disappoint… 😉
Thanks for sharing!
Yes! I included most of these authors for that very reason, I can always count on them for a great story:-)
I do love a good cover too so it feels quite unusual to go by description alone. Even without any real description the Alice Feeney will go onto my TBR list based on how much I liked Daisy Darker 😀
Pages and Tea recently posted…Book Review: Mrs. McGinty’s Dead (Hercule Poirot #28) by Agatha Christie
I still hoping for another Daisy Darker-level story:-)
Gibson gave a brief update about Savage Blooms on IG a couple of days ago. I don’t know exactly what it’s about, but described it I think as an erotic fantasy romance trilogy or something like that! Either way I’m definitely going to read it!
Me too, plus her writing is just so good:-)
The way I gasped at the title of the next Grady Hendrix book. It sounds VERY promising already just from that title! 😀
I know! His titles are always great:-)
The Grady Hendrix and Clay Chapman books for sure! They sound amazing… and honestly, even without reading the synopses, based on the authors and titles alone, I’d say yes to these! Fun list. 🙂
Most of these authors have great track records, so it’s easy to get excited:-)
I love the idea behind this post! I’m like you, I love my covers but this is so cool. Lots of good sounding books here as well. I know my wishlist just grew!
I like looking forward to these, even without covers:-)
The most likely for me is the Alice Feeney.
Anne – Books of My Heart recently posted…Murder in Rose Hill by Victoria Thompson @gaslightvt @BerkleyPub
I can’t wait to learn more about it:-)
The one I’d want to read is Alice Feeney’s!
Me too! Her books always surprise me:-)
So many of these sound marvelous! I’m probably most excited for the next Grady Hendrix book.
Me too, I wish we didn’t have so long to wait!
I have yet to read book 2 of Rambo’s series too, but I hope to get to it soon! And I really enjoyed the idea of this post, thanks for sharing!!
Thanks Susy! I hope we both get to Rambo’s book soon.
I’ve yet to try any of Grady Hendrix’ books though I’ve purchased several now based on your reviews. And I remember the very first one that caught my eye was Horrorstör. The idea of a horror story set in an IKEA-like store was just too good to pass by. Now I just need to make the time to read it (or any of his others I’ve collected). 🙂
Horrorstor was so much fun! Not my favorite of his books, but lots of fun.
I’m always so impatient waiting for the covers!
Me too, that’s why I did this post, I couldn’t wait:-P
I love the sound of The Way Up Is Death – I tend to enjoy Angry Robot publications:)). Thank you for sharing these, Tammy.
This is an interesting post for a cover-ho such as myself. I really pour over the synopses before adding a book to my TBR when there is no cover. I depend on it to give me some clues about the story.
Such a good post. That being said, like you I’m very visual and until these covers drop I’ll probably forget about most of them – well except for the Alice Feeney.
Lynn 😀
