Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!
Another round of book mail came in the last two weeks, so I need to record these so I don’t lose track of my TBR, lol. And I’m happy to say I’ve only received one digital ARC from NetGalley, and it’s a good one:-) Here is my recent book haul:
Books in the mail for review:
Starting off with a trio of books, with thanks to Orbit! That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon by Kimberly Lemming is the first book in the trilogy (my last book haul had books #2 & #3), so now I can officially start the series.
A Letter to the Luminous Deep by Sylvie Cathrall is a fantasy romance involving an underwater world, told in an epistolary format. I think it sounds lovely!
And I received this beautiful hardcover of An Education in Malice by S.T. Gibson. I didn’t love the story, but I do love Gibson’s work in general, so I’m happy to have this.
The next three books are courtesy of Bramble! Remedial Magic by Melissa Marr is one I’m a little nervous about. The ratings on Goodreads are very low, which is surprising for a Melissa Marr book.
But I’m extremely happy to have received a copy of The Ashes & the Star-Cursed King by Carissa Broadbent. The first book in the series, The Serpent & the Wings of Night, was a wonderful surprise, and I can’t wait to continue the series.
Finally from Bramble, I received The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst. Durst is an author I want to read more of anyway, so I’m very happy to have her new fantasy romance. Thank you Bramble!
This is mostly a Tor bunch of books: First up, a super exciting ARC, The Daughters’ War by Christopher Buehlman. This is the prequel to The Blacktongue Thief, which I read about three years ago and loved. Now the prequel is coming out, and follows one of the characters in the first book, Galva. This sounds fantastic!
Foul Days by Genoveva Dimova is the start to a Slavic folklore inspired series, and is being compared to The Witcher. It seems there are lots of monstrous creatures in this story, and I’m very curious! The second book in the series follows soon after in October, so if I enjoy this, I won’t have to wait long for the sequel.
Projections by S.E. Porter is already out, so I’ll have to fit this in at some point. This is historical horror, so I’m pretty sure I’ll love it when I get to it.
Finally from Tor, Archangels of Funk by Andrea Hairston. This sounds like a really good sci-fi dystopian, and I’m excited to finally read something by Hairston. Huge thanks to Tor for these review copies:-D
And from new-to-me publisher Dead Sky Publishing, I’m thrilled to have a copy of American Narcissus by Chandler Morrison. This is a bit outside my usual genre, it appears to be literary/thriller fiction, but I’m excited to try it, it sounds very dark:-)
Digital book for review:
I was very happy to be approved for Incidents Around the House, which reviewers are saying is Josh Malerman’s best book yet. Big thanks to Del Rey:-)
I loved The Blacktongue Thief as well and knowing there is an upcoming new book set in that world is very welcome news. Learning that it’s about Galva is like the proverbial cherry on top 🙂

I’m very excited to learn about Galva’s origins and backstory, I loved her in The Blacktongue Thief:-)
I always enjoy your book haul posts, so many pretty covers to look at, especially in that first pic 😀
I’m curious about That Time I Got Drunk… so will look out for your review. I’m really tempted to give it a try, I think it’s that cover catching my eye every time I see it!

It’s hard to ignore the title, it really grabs you!
That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon really has a fantastic cover. Can’t wait to read your thoughts about it. I hope it’s as good as it looks and sounds 😀
I’m hoping to squeeze it into my March reading, it really sounds funny and cozy:-)
Those are some nice fantasy covers and horror book look cool.

I love all these covers too:-)
I’m curious about the Malerman book! I’ve loved some of his book, and some, not so much. Can’t wait to hear more! Quite an impressive haul — as always, I’m amazed that you can keep up !
I have never read him so I’m curious to see if I like him:-)
Ooh, Projections sounds right up my alley!
I can definitely see both of us enjoying Projections:-)
Wow! Do you ever feel overwhelmed by the number of books you have to review? Just curious.
I used to request and receive a lot too, when I started book blogging 14 years ago, but I have moved to reading more what I want, and have never regretted it.

Ha ha yes I feel overwhelmed! But not in a bad way. I’ve started reading my own books this year with one a month, and I love it!
I’m curious about The Daughters’ War, though I haven’t read the main series yet.
Since it’s a prequel you could probably read it first:-)
So many books! Enjoy!

Thanks Stormi!
This is a nice hail! FOUL DAYS sounds interesting, though I admittedly have only watched The Witcher vs read it. The Carissa Broadbent books are on my TBR & I bought them before they went out of print and were picked up by trad pub…I’ve seen an overwhelmingly good buzz about them, so I hope I enjoy them, too! Happy reading!
I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the Carissa Broadbent series! I was so impressed with the first book.
Daughter’s War sounds really good – and I did love Blacktongue Thief.
Happy reading.
Lynn 😀

I hope there is humor in The Daughters’ War, since the first book was so funny:-)
I have The Spellshop and A Letter to the Luminous Deep to review too — I have to get round to them soon! They sound so good. Hope we both enjoy them!

Me too! I fell like they both have that fantasy romance vibe:-)
How many interesting books!! I am particularly curious about The Spellshop and The Daughter’s War but I am slowly becoming interested in That Time I got Drunk… I wasn’t so intrigued by it at the beginning but lately I am reading some interesting reviews about that and I am growing curious!
I hope to read That Time I Got Drunk soon, maybe in the next 2 weeks.
That’s a great haul! I just finished A letter to the Luminous Deep this week!
I can’t wait to compare notes!
The Kimberley Lemming series just looks like a lot of fun. Can’t wait to see your reviews when you get to them! Enjoy your new books.

You always get the most amazing book hauls! I’m hoping to read The Serpent & the Wings of Night at some point. I’ve heard so many good things about that series
It was such a nice surprise!
I just got an e arch of The Spellshop and I’m really looking forward to reading that one.
Foul Days sounds interesting (and kind of perfect for Spooktastic reads later on in the year) so I’m going to look that up.
