Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D
This week we’re looking into the future! Here are three Fall 2024 releases to get excited about:
Evil In Me by Brom. Releases in September 2024 from Tor Nightfire. Wow, this sounds so good! I have yet to read anything by Brom, and I’m very curious to see the finished hardcover with his illustrations. Can’t wait:-)
From New York Times Bestselling author Kelley Armstrong comes a spellbinding new tale of supernatural horror involving a haunted-house, seances, lost loved ones, and a sinister spirit out for blood…
Nicola Laughton never expected to see adulthood, being diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis as a child. Then medical advances let her live into her thirties and she met Anton, who taught her to dream of a future… together. Months after they married, Anton died in a horrible car, but lived long enough to utter five words to her, “I’ll be waiting for you.”
That final private moment became public when someone from the crash scene took it to the press—the terminally ill woman holding her dying husband as he promised to wait for her on the other side. Worse, that person claimed it wasn’t Anton who said the words but his ghost, hovering over his body.
Since their story went public, Nicola has been hounded by spiritualists promising closure. In the hopes of stopping her downward spiral, friends and family find a reputable medium—a professor of parapsychology. For the séance, they rent the Lake Erie beach house that Anton’s family once owned.
The medium barely has time to begin his work before things start happening. Locked doors mysteriously open. Clouds of insects engulf the house. Nicola hears footsteps and voices and the creak of an old dumbwaiter…in an empty shaft. Throughout it all she’s haunted by nightmares of her past. Because, unbeknownst to the others, this isn’t her first time contacting the dead. And Nicola isn’t her real name.
That’s when she finds the first body….
In this atmospheric, thrilling new ghost story, Kelley Armstrong’s full talents are on display to thrill, chill and leave the reader guessing how Nicola escapes with her life–if she can.
I’ll Be Waiting by Kelley Armstrong. Releases in October 2024 from St. Martin’s Press. Thanks to Stephanie for putting this on my radar! Of course I immediately added it to my TBR. I haven’t read a Kelley Armstrong book in a long time, but I think this sounds fantastic.
The true hero of The Wizard of Oz takes center stage in this brilliant, delightfully snarky reimagining from the author of The Library of the Unwritten.
I was mostly a Good Dog until they sold me out to animal control, okay?
But if it’s a choice between Oz, with its creepy little singing dudes, and being behind bars in gray old Kansas, I’ll choose the place where animals talk and run the show for now, thanks.
It’s not my fault that the kid is stuck here too, or that she stumbled into a tug-of-war over a pair of slippers that don’t even taste good. Now one witch in good eyeliner calls her pretty and we’re off on a quest? Teenagers.
I try to tell her she’s falling in with the wrong crowd when she befriends a freaking hedge wizard made of straw, that blue jay with revolutionary aspirations, and the walking tin can. Still, I’m not one to judge when there’s the small matter of a coup in the Forest Kingdom….
Look, something really stinks in Oz, and this Wizard guy and the witches positively reek of it. As usual, it’s going to be up to a sensible little dog to do a big dog’s job and get to the bottom of it.
And trust me: Little dogs can get away with anything.
Toto by A.J. Hackwith. Releases in November 2024 from Ace. Hackwith is another author I always hear good things about, and I’m excited to see her Wizard of Oz retelling coming out this year. This sounds so funny, and the fact that it’s told from Toto’s point of view only makes me want to read it more!
That first cover – wow!
I’ll Be Waiting sounds like a perfect Halloween read and Wizard of Oz form Toto’s POV definitely sounds like it has potential. Great picks 😀

Me too!
Hahaha, just the idea of Toto is cracking me up! I’d read that for sure. Definite yes for the Kelley Armstrong book too!
It sounds so funny, right?
These sound good. I LOVE Kelley Armstrong but not sure enough to read horror. The Toto book is fascinating.
Ha ha totally understand! I am curious to see what she does with horror.
OMG I need all three. But Toto! You had to know it would snag me for sure. I can’t wait to feature it coming up. I NEED an arc! And I want to know how many hours a day Kelley Armstrong writes. I read Krampus a few years back and really enjoyed it. This one sounds great, especially with the rock-and-roll element. Added all three to the wishlist!
Not surprised at all that you want to read Toto:-)
I’ll Be Waiting, how surprising! 😉 It does really sound right up your alley and I obviously wanna read it too. I didn’t like Armstrong’s previous horror novel but that doesn’t mean I’m not gonna give this one a chance.

So glad you put it on my radar:-)
I’m not ready to think about fall yet. LOL These all sound really good! I am totally in for Toto. I love that premise and have enjoyed the author’s worker before. I’ll be Waiting is on my radar too. I love Kelley Armstrong’s books. I hope you enjoy all three of these when you read them, Tammy!
Ha ha it is pretty far off!
A new Brom book!!?? YES!
It sounds fantastic, right?
I love the sound of Toto – it sounds so entertaining. Thank you for sharing, Tammy:)).
It really does, I feel like we need more entertaining books:-)
I’ve read and thoroughly enjoyed one of Brom’s novels (Krampus: The Yule Lord), but long before that I fell in love with his paintings. So much talent.
I still need to read Brom, I think I own at least two of his books!
Toto does sound totally hilarious!

I’ll be Waiting has a fantastic cover:-)
Toto – sounds brilliant.
Lynn 😀
Right? I need to read it:-)
I still have your last cover post open and you have written a whole new one before I got to that one! I sob, I am so behind! But alas, I am very intrigued by this bunch! I feel like Evil in Me may not be my “thing”, but I do love the cover! Definitely curious about I’ll Be Waiting- love that cover, too! The concept of Toto sounds SO fun, my goodness! And again, a wonderful cover! Thanks for putting these on my radar!

I love the Evil in Me cover too, and I really want to see the illustrations inside.
I haven’t read a Kelley Armstrong book yet, though I’ve heard good things about them. I’ll Be Waiting just might be my first, because that sounds way too good to pass up! I’m honestly not a fan of the Wizard of Oz, but I *do* enjoy A.J. Hackwith’s work. That blurb sounds funny, and makes me think I should at least give it a chance.

I’m not a huge Oz fan either, but I do want to try Hackwith, so I may chance it!
The first cover is so fun, the second is just beautiful in a different way, and the third one sounds like such a fun story!

I love the first cover, it’s so different from other books out there right now:-)
I have really enjoyed some of Brom’s other work and this looks really interesting, but quite different from his other stuff so I’m really intrigued! Toto sounds like a riot-doesn’t like something that’s usually my thing, but I think I may have to check it out!

I know, Toto might be a little too out there, but I’m tempted to try it.
I’ll Be Waiting sounds creeeepy. Not sure it’s my thing haha. Toto looks like a fun retelling of the Wizard of Oz…I can only think of one other book I’ve read from an animal’s POV.
Toto sounds a bit crazy but I’m so curious:-)
I feel so silly I saw only the top part of Armstrongs book cover at first and thought ‘ooh a gingerbread house’ I hope you enjoy these books when you get a chance to read them.
