Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D
I know a lot of people are getting really cold weather and snow storms right now, if you’re one of them, I hope you’re staying warm! We’re just getting rain this weekend, with maybe a little snow mixed in, so I consider myself pretty lucky at the moment.
So spoilers ahead for Virgin River: As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I’ve started watching the Netflix show, and I’m up to Season 4. It’s pretty overly dramatic and ridiculous, and yet I keep watching, lol. Here are a few things that have happened: Jack got mixed up with drug dealers and was shot (he pulled through). Then said drug dealers decided to burn his house down since the shooting didn’t work; Jack got his ex girlfriend pregnant with twins, she found another guy to marry, and he won’t let Jack near his own babies; meanwhile, Mel wants to get pregnant with Jack but poor Jack is so stressed out over the impending twins he can’t imagine having a THIRD baby. So Mel decides to go to a clinic and use the frozen eggs and sperm from her dead husband because she really really wants a baby. Mel gets pregnant, but guess what? She doesn’t know if it’s Jack’s or the dead husband’s baby. Lily finds out she has cancer and dies before she can start chemo, Hope gets stuck in a hurricane then gets a bad head injury in a car crash and almost dies. And Doc is diagnosed with macular degeneration. I forgot to mention Paige is on the run after her husband abuses her, except he’s a lawyer and has a ton of connections and he’s accusing her of kidnapping her son. And those are just the highlights, lol. I can’t imagine what they will come up with for two more seasons!
Upcoming reads & reviews:
I finished three books last week and will try to get all three reviews up this week. Deep Freeze was fun until it wasn’t, lol (yes, I had mixed feelings about it). And I’m happy to report I’ve read my January TBR Jar book, Remarkably Bright Creatures, and it was amazing. I still have a book hangover from it! I decided to sneak in a short February release too, Your Shadow Half Remains, and this didn’t work that well for me, unfortunately. I’m currently reading The Sanctuary.
Other posts this week:
Top Ten Tuesday is “books I meant to read in 2023 but didn’t,” a sad post to put together, lol; Wednesday I have three new Future Fiction picks; and Saturday look for my latest book haul.
In case you missed:
My posts from last week:

The Serpent & the Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent – Review 4.5/5 stars
Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett – Review 5/5 stars
I love this photo, which is a bit unusual for my husband. This is near our town, a “prescribed” (controlled) burn, done to help prevent wildfires in the warmer months of the year. I also love that our town has teal fire trucks!
Nice
Teal firetrucks are so unique!!
Virgin Rivers sounds like a WILD show! Those events are over the course of four seasons and not just one, right? :0

That photo is incredible! Hope that doing that helps for warmer months like they say too. Of course being back in school cut back on my blog commenting again, lol, so I’m behind on your reviews again! Sorry to hear you had a few that weren’t great for you. I had two I DNFed in one day last week!

Wow I love that photo! ok see this is why I can’t watch Virgin River. One episode caused such a massive eye-roll I couldn’t see straight for days. I may have to take up watching documentaries or something because tv is too ridiculous for me these days. Your reading is going well!

I could only take two seasons of Virgin River, too much drama for me
Teal fire trucks are unusual!
Wishing you a great reading week
Looks like your past reading week had ups and owns. I hope the coming one is better.
I just finished Babel-17, finally. Wow!!

It’s been very cold around here, though not as cold as some areas. We’ve had temps in the teens to 20’s (F) but with the gusty winds it feels colder. Great hiking weather if not for that wind. 🙂 That photo is unusual, but I also really like it. The teal fire trucks are interesting, not something I’ve seen before. I’ve also never seen a prescribed burn while it was happening, just the results afterwards. Very cool!
serpent and wing is on my book cart to read at some point in the future i really love the cover on that one.
Great photo! LOL re Virgin River… so much drama! It’s absolutely ridiculous, but I can’t stop watching!
You did great summing up Virgin River. It is a whole lot of drama for sure! That picture of the controlled burn is awesome yet still scary! Hope your next reads are great ones!
I haven’t watched Virgin River yet but I think I’d be into it because I love dramatic shows even if they can be overly done. They’re always addictive. Might have to check it out soon!
My eyebrows were up reading your Virgin River S4 synopsis. I’ve only read some of the books, but whew, that show is way more dramatic. 😉 Love the controlled burn shot. Nice stack of books you got through this week.
Have a good week, Tammy!
Omg so much Virgin River drama! I only watched Season 1, and I don’t intend to continue it but I love getting the summary from you! I’m glad you’re enjoying it. I’m also getting so much FOMO seeing people reading Remarkably Bright Creatures. I have so many books on the TBR and I’m trying to get through them but it takes time! I hope you have a wonderful week!

Oh wow, that is an unusual photo for your hubby. Still a stunning one though and I agree with the comment above that it looks like it could be the cover of a book.
I always enjoying finding a book that leaves you with a book hangover, I’ll look out for your review of Remarkably Bright Creatures.
That’s a great photo, it almost looks like a scene from a film 😀

That picture is really interesting! It reminds me of the time I drove on the 2 and there was a (not controlled) fire raging nearby on the 14. Hope that fire leads to an uneventful fire season!
Well we got snow here too! Also that picture is a mazing!
Too bad Your Shadow Half Remains didn’t work for you. The cover is awesome. I love the teal firetrucks — I’ve never seen such a thing!

Are they special fire trucks? I like that they are teal too.
So glad you got to read Remarkably Bright Creatures!

I’ve not heard of a prescribed burn before but it sounds like a positive step against wild fires. great photo.
