Most Anticipated Books of 2024 – First Quarter

It’s time to take a look at my most anticipated books for the first quarter of 2024, January, February and March! I’ve picked my top five books for each month, and at the end of the quarter, I’ll show you how many of these books I actually read. Each title is linked to Goodreads so you can read the full description if you want.

I’m also linking up with Top Ten Tuesday, which was created by The Broke and the Bookish and is now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Check out upcoming Top Ten themes on Jana’s blog!

And at the end of this post, you can see my results for the fourth quarter of 2023. Here we go!

January 2024 Most Anticipated:

I’m starting off the month with the first three books already read! I loved Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett just as much as the first book in the series. Look for my review next week!

And I also loved The Heiress by Rachel Hawkins. This is a super twisty thriller that surprised me in every way.

Thirteen Ways to Kill Lulabelle Rock by Maud Woolf is another winner. This is a sci-fi mystery/thriller with a heroine you’ll never forget!

The Glass Woman by Alice McIlroy is another SF thriller that sounds really good. The publisher is comparing it to Black Mirror, so I’m very curious to try it.

And Deep Freeze by Michael C. Grumley is yet another mystery/thriller (seems like the theme for January), and it’s getting some good reviews already. This is the first book in a new series, so fingers crossed it’s good!

February 2024 Most Anticipated:

Oh man, it’s so hard to narrow February down to five books, I could easily have added another three to this list!

I’m a big fan of S.T. Gibson, after loving last year’s A Dowry of Blood, and An Education in Malice sounds just as good.

Another of my “must read” authors is Melissa Albert, and I’m very excited to read The Bad Ones. This has a lot of tags hooked to it on Goodreads: horror, thriller, fantasy, gothic, mystery, so it will be interesting to see what fits.

I know lots of readers who are excited for Katherine Arden’s The Warm Hands of Ghosts, so this was an easy choice for my February list!

The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett is the start of a new mystery/fantasy series by another favorite author. It sounds so good!

A Haunting in the Arctic by C.J. Cooke is a historical mystery/horror story that revolves around a ghostly shipwreck, and I can’t wait to read it.

March 2024 Most Anticipated:

The Angel of Indian Lake by Stephen Graham Jones is the highly anticipated final to his Indian Lake trilogy. I’m very curious to see how Jones wraps everything up.

I’m very eager to read another Simone St. James book, so Murder Road is a no-brainer for this list.

Forgotten Sisters will be my first Cynthia Pelayo book. I’ve been meaning to read one of her books for a while, so I’m glad she has a new book out this year.

“Witty horror debut” is such a great description, and it’s one reason I’m so excited to read A Botanical Daughter by Noah Medlock.

And finally, I’m looking forward to check out Kim Harrison’s Three Kinds of Lucky, the first book in a new series.

Fourth Quarter 2023 Results:

Not too shabby! I managed to read almost all my books, and Edenville was a DNF, although I didn’t officially cross it off my list:

  1. I’m looking forward to your Emily Wilde review. I still have a book hangover from the first one as I finished it recently.
Simone St. James’ new book sounds interesting too. I’ve only read one, The Sun Down Motel, but it was so good I’d definitely read more 😀

I’m so excited about this bunch, I wish I didn’t have to work so I can just read all the time, lol.

  2. You really checked them off in the 4th quarter. I’m most curious about The Tainted Cup in this batch. I’ve wanted to try more by the author after finishing and loving The Divine Cities trilogy.

The Divine Cities is my favorite series of his, so hopefully The Tainted Cup will be just as good. I hear it’s sort of in the same vein.

  3. A Map of the Otherlands is one of my most anticipated reads, even though I still have to read the first one. I really want to try Simone St. James too…

  4. Well done for reading three already, it’s wonderful that they were all hits with you too.

I’m looking forward to quite a few of these too.

Also well done on reading so many books from your last quarter. Seems like you’re on a roll.

  5. An Education in Malice is definitely on my TBR, and I keep being tempted to grab an ARC of A Botanical Daughter, but I’ve some catching up to do first.

  6. I am so surprised that we don’t have more in common on our lists! In fairness, most of these ARE on my TBR, just didn’t make my (seemingly endless, go figure) list. The Glass Woman and Deep Freeze are ones I hope to get to soon though. And Warm Hands of Ghosts! Oh man I am sad to see that Edenville was a DNF- I almost bought it, and then didn’t because it was kind of pricey for an ebook, and now I am kind of glad! You did awesome with your 4thQ 2023 books though, my goodness!

  7. A fabulous list, Tammy:)). I absolutely loved the latest Emily Wilde adventure and I’m particularly looking forward to Relight My Fire – the next book in the Stranger Times series which I’ve loved up to now. I’ll be checking out that Kim Harrison book…
