Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D
Today I have three upcoming SFF books by women authors, take a look:
In her breathtaking debut—part space odyssey, part sapphic rom-com—Emily Hamilton weaves a suspenseful, charming, and irresistibly joyous tale of fierce friendship, improbable love, and wonder as vast as the universe itself.
So, here’s the Cleo and her friends really, truly didn’t mean to steal this spaceship.
They just wanted to know why, twenty years ago, the entire Providence crew vanished without a trace. But then the stupid dark matter engine started all on its own, and now these four twenty-somethings are en route to Proxima Centauri, unable to turn around, and being harangued by a snarky hologram that has the face and attitude of the ship’s missing captain, Billie.
Cleo has dreamt of being an astronaut all her life, and Earth is kind of a lost cause at this point, so this should be one of those blessings in disguise that people talk about. But as the ship gets deeper into space, the laws of physics start twisting, old mysteries come crawling back to life, and Cleo’s initially combative relationship with Billie turns into something deeper and more desperate than either woman was prepared for.
Lying somewhere in the subspace between science fantasy and sapphic rom-com, The Stars Too Fondly is a soaring near-future adventure about dark matter and alternate dimensions, leaving home and finding family, and the galaxy-saving power of letting yourself love and be loved.
The Stars Too Fondly by Emily Hamilton. Releases in June 2024 from Harper Voyager. This colorful, happy cover caught my attention, and then the blurb made me want to read this even more. This sounds like it will be as upbeat as the cover:-)
A woman searching for her birth-parents unlocks the secrets of her horrific past, as she tries to stop the goblin within in this kaleidoscopic dark psychological horror, with a dread-inducing climax you will never forget. Perfect for fans of Eric LaRocca and Catriona Ward.
Myrrh has a goblin inside her, a voice in her head that tells her all the things she’s done wrong, that berates her and drags her down. Desperately searching for her birth-parents across dilapidated seaside towns in the South coast of England, she finds herself silenced and cut off at every step.
Cayenne is trapped in a loveless marriage, the distance between her and her husband growing further and further each day. Longing for a child, she has visions promising her a baby.
As Myrrh’s frustrations grow, the goblin in her grows louder and louder, threatening to tear apart the few relationships she holds dear and destroy everything around her. When Cayenne finds her husband growing closer to his daughter, Cayenne’s stepdaughter, pushing her further out of his life, she makes a decision that sends her into a terrible spiral.
The stories of these women will unlock a past filled with dark secrets, strange connections; all leading to an unforgettable, horrific climax.
Myrrh by Polly Hall. Releases in April 2024 from Titan Books. OK truth: I want to read this mostly to find out what the climax is, lol. But seriously, I love the cover, and I this sounds deliciously dark.
A violent storm washes a mysterious house onto a rural Pacific Northwest beach, stopping the heart of the only woman who knows what it means. Her grandson, Simon Culpepper, vanishes in the aftermath, leaving two of his childhood friends to comb the small, isolated island for answers—but decades have passed since Melissa and Leo were close, if they were ever close at all.
Now they’ll have to put aside old rivalries and grudges if they want to find or save the man who brought them together in the first place—and on the way they’ll learn a great deal about the sinister house on the beach, the man who built it, and the evil he’s bringing back to Marrowstone Island.
From award-winning author Cherie Priest comes a deeply haunting and atmospheric horror-thriller that explores the lengths we’ll go to protect those we love.v
The Drowning House by Cherie Priest. Releases in July 2024 from Poisoned Pen Press. It’s been years since I read a Cherie Priest book, so I hope I can get to this one, it sounds so strange! A mysterious house washes up on a beach? I need to know more…
The Drowning House sounds really good and mysterious and I love the cover of The Stars Too Fondly, so colourful 😀

That colorful cover just makes me smile:-)
The Drowning House sounds really good. Thanks for sharing!
It does, I can’t wait to read it:-)
I love Cherie Priest and have read several of her books but like you, it’s been a while since I picked up anything by her. This one sounds great. I also want to know more about the goblin in Myrrh. Great choices this week!
Thanks! I think I’ve only read one Cherie Priest book which is a shame. I need to read more!
It’s been years for me as well since I last read a Cherie Priest book. This one sounds wonderfully creepy. And I love the cover and blurb for The Stars Too Fondly!
I think both have a lot of potential:-)
I’m already lowkey loving The Stars Too Fondly because of “part space odyssey, part sapphic rom-com” + the main character is called Cleo and that’s my dog’s name! 😀
I can totally understand why you’d want to read it:-)
The Stars too Fondly could be one I’d love Tammy!
I can see you enjoying that one too:-)
Interesting picks.

They do sound interesting:-)
I added the Cherie Priest this week too! I was loving her Booking Agent series and was actually hoping to get news of a third book, but this will do for now!
I need to get back into reading her books, it’s been too long.
Stop the goblin within! That’s the line that caught my attention. 🙂
Ha ha it makes you curious right?
Nice. And some new authors for me too.

Two of them are new for me as well:-)
The first two I absolutely must have in my life (and the first one I already do, yay!) and funnily enough, that line in the synopsis was what reeled me in too! Now, the last one is new to me but I kind of need it now, too. Love the cover also!
