Future Fiction #256 – Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

Today I have three upcoming horror/thrillers, all coming out next summer, take a look:

Willow’s worst nightmare was being cancelled. But the shadows in the woods of Camp Castaway might destroy more than her reputation.

After sitcom star Willow tweeted herself into infamy and had to be dragged blind-drunk out of a swimming pool, her agent shipped her off to the woodsy and wonderfully anonymous confines of Camp Castaway. Tucked away in the trees of upstate New York, Castaway is a summer camp for adults in desperate need of leaving behind their mistakes, their social media accounts, their lives. No real names, no phones…no way to call for help.

Willow is relieved to find that her fellow campers seem okay. To her shock, her own favorite actress is here, sitting by the campfire and roasting a s’more. And did that jaded writer, Dani, just wink at her? But the peaceful vibe is shattered when a terrifying woman pops shrieking from the wardrobe in Willow’s room. Soon after, one of the campers vanishes. Is Willow about to get cancelled all over again, this time for good?

Soon, terror grips the group, campers begin to lose their heads—literally!—and Willow and her new friends are on the run. As paranoia grows and disturbing past deeds come to light, this escape from their shallow lifestyles might just lead to a set of shallow graves.

Heads Will Roll by Josh Winning. Releases in July 2024 from G.P. Putnam’s Sons. I’m a big Josh Winning fan and I was so excited to see this cover reveal last week! I’m loving this recent trend of books set in secluded camps, and I can’t wait to see what Josh does with it:-)

In the latest jaw-dropping thriller from New York Times bestselling author Riley Sager, a man must contend with the long-ago disappearance of his childhood best friend—and the dark secrets lurking just beyond the safe confines of his picture-perfect neighborhood.

The worst thing to ever happen on Hemlock Circle occurred in Ethan Marsh’s backyard. One July night, ten-year-old Ethan and his best friend and neighbor, Billy, fell asleep in a tent set up on a manicured lawn in a quiet, quaint New Jersey cul de sac. In the morning, Ethan woke up alone. During the night, someone had sliced the tent open with a knife and taken Billy. He was never seen again.

Thirty years later, Ethan has reluctantly returned to his childhood home. Plagued by bad dreams and insomnia, he begins to notice strange things happening in the middle of the night. Someone seems to be roaming the cul de sac at odd hours, and signs of Billy’s presence keep appearing in Ethan’s backyard. Is someone playing a cruel prank? Or has Billy, long thought to be dead, somehow returned to Hemlock Circle?

The mysterious occurrences prompt Ethan to investigate what really happened that night, a quest that reunites him with former friends and neighbors and leads him into the woods that surround Hemlock Circle. Woods where Billy claimed monsters roamed and where a mysterious institute does clandestine research on a crumbling estate.

The closer Ethan gets to the truth, the more he realizes that no place—be it quiet forest or suburban street—is completely safe. And that the past has a way of haunting the present.

Middle of the Night by Riley Sager. Releases in June 2024 from Dutton. OK you heard it here first: 2024 is the year I FINALLY read a Riley Sager book, lol. And this is going to be it! I seem to be drawn to the “adult returns to his childhood home to solve a mystery” stories, and this sounds great!

A thrilling blend of fan favorite novel Ghost Camera—materially expanded and in print for the very first time—plus new bonus novellas certain to excite new readers and die-hard fans alike.

When Jenine finds an abandoned polaroid camera in a tower, she takes a photo just for fun. But there’s something wrong with the image: a ghostly figure stands in the background, watching her.

Jenine and her best friend, Bree, soon realize the camera is capable of capturing the dead. But the ghosts seem to be following the friends. And with each new photo taken, the specters become clearer and closer…

Ghost Camera by Darcy Coates. Releases in July 2024 from Poisoned Pen Press. This is an older Darcy Coates book that is being rereleased with new material. From the very short blurb, it sounds like Ghost Camera is a novella, and there will be other novellas included in the book. I’m looking forward to it, as I always like to see what Coates is doing.

  1. Love the sound of Heads Will Roll (and what a title!). I’d like to read another Riley Sager book, I’ve only read one so far but I did enjoy it. Great picks this week 😀

  2. So all three of these are going on the wish list. I really need to read another Riley Sager because Final Girl didn’t work for me (I still recall the Xanax and grape pop references everywhere). I am convinced I might like some of his other works though. Also Burn the Negative was another miss but this one sounds really good so I will give the author a second chance as well. Great picks this week!

I wasn’t crazy about Burn the Negative either, but I loved the book before that so I’m always going to read Winning’s new books.

Ha ha I do remember that you aren’t crazy about these authors. I’ll let you know what I think about Riley Sager:-)
